In this video, I take a look at the Pensacola street preachers that come out every Saturday during the Summer. They stand with signs and shout warnings of impending doom. Who are these people? We'll be taking a look at their church, Bible Baptist Church, their former leader, Peter Ruckman, their current followers, former members who've agreed to speak with me, and the disturbing past full of self righteousness that has led many people away from God.

Just so you’re aware, I find these kinds of discussions and videos fascinating, I’m a loyal viewer of your channel (literally it’s at the top of channels I’ve subscribed to for years) and I’m subscribed to the other channel and I’ve never gotten a single notification from it or had it placed in my feed at all. The algorithm is clearly not favoring it which explains some of the numbers. Dunno how to fix it but I thought it would help to know. I clicked it and saw how many vids there were and was shook

Christ's hellfire and brimstone preaching repelled most people during His days on earth insomuch that they eventually crucified Him.... " Ye serpents, ye geneeation of vipers! How shall ye escape the damnation of hell?" how does that sound?

“On some have compassion, making a difference; and others save with FEAR, pulling them out of the fire”- Book of James It’s a quote from memory but that’s pretty close
@MAMoreno

Here's the passage, which is from Jude 1.22-23: "And have mercy on some who are wavering; save others by snatching them out of the fire; and have mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies" (NRSVue). There's a tiny textual variant here (a Greek word ending in either νοι or νους) that determines whether the ones "making a difference" (KJV, with "difference" in this case meaning "distinction") are the diligent church leaders (who are "making a difference" between one case and another) or the wayward members of the church (who are "making a difference" with their contrary viewpoints), but the overall point is consistent. Jude's letter specifically addresses how to deal with people inside the church, especially with "certain intruders" who "have stolen in among you" and "who pervert the grace of our God into debauchery and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ" (1.4). So street preaching is quite the opposite of following the directions of Jude's letter. He's concerned with internal church discipline. That's not to say that there is no model in the New Testament for street preaching (see Acts for examples).

Holden I didn't know you made content like this, I usually just watch the movie reactions with you and Jen. This is great. I am cult survivor, grew up in one and still deal with fall out and religious scrupulosity as a result. I myself am an Atheist now but I have to navigate a world where most people are either religious or at least believe in a god of some kind, usually Judaeo Christian, and most of my childhood friends and all my family are still in the cult I was raised in, the struggle can be real. I knew you were religious but I've learned not to let others beliefs bother me especially if the are not harmful. I love that you are willing to expose this kind of thing it.

My family and I witnessed a horrible accident involving street preachers at 9 mile and Guidy lane maybe 10 years ago. 2 cars collided and lost control, one of the cars rolling into 2 ladies with the street preachers. Knocked one of the ladies right out of her shoes and into a ditch. We stopped to render aid and we ended up keeping in touch with the family. They made a full recovery but one of the ladies was in the hospital for surgery and then PT for years after. It's so so dangerous.

I have a complicated relationship with street preachers. I heard the gospel from one and was saved, so I understand that many of them don't do it well, and some of them don't even want to talk to people when they're out in public, much like the guy you talk to in the video. I do respect people who put themselves out there. I think that in the West, our default is to not share the gospel. We say, "I'm going to become friends with people, and that will lead them to the Lord." Yes, it can, but many people don't share anything. Leading with hell isn't going to get everyone, but hell is real, and we don't know how much time we have here. We need to tell people and tell them quickly. We could learn from a lot of street preachers, not all, but a lot. It does take someone special to love people enough to put themselves in a space where they can be hated.

Well said. I think many of us become "comfortable Christians" in our Western culture. Being a good friend is a nice thing but how are we actually meant to live according to Luke 9:23 "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." Do not follow your natural tendency to comfortable and accepted by society, we need to share to others what Jesus puts on our heart.

I think the big difference are those that want to be heard vs those that want to reach people. You don't need to be aggressive, loud, and rude about it. Some of them it's more like they want to be seen as a "look! look how devout I am!"

Great video. I think the real problem in situation like this is that people are putting their faith in the church and its leadership and not in the living God. Growing up I went to church as a kid with my parents, but I kept getting sick so we stopped. From then my only exposure to the gospel was the occasional church visit with my grandma or people from Bethel church here in California coming up to me and asking to pray for me to walk because they were more concerned about that than they were about sharing about Jesus and the gospel. Fast forward to 2005 and thankfully the Lord saved me in my darkest hour and I have been a completely transformed, spirit filled, bible believing, follower of Jesus ever since.

I’m atheist in a smaller city in Australia, religion isn’t big here. I was pulled aside from a street preacher once with their lil group of singers. I had just bought my self a subway sandwich and I was hungry, however I didn’t wanna be rude. So I sat there for a good 15 minutes as they sang and prayed for me and my wishes. I could’ve just Palmed them off like everyone else but afterwards it felt nice to have these people rooting for me through their beliefs even if I myself didn’t believe. I told them I was atheist and they still treated me with respect and kindness. I appreciated it

i actually used to be a very devout christian who subscribed to the relational, jesus-like christianity. i was very involved in my church and looked to as an example by many. but then something bad happened, i was SA by a member of the congregation and they were actually a leader in the church. the way the rest of the church leadership handled things with me was deeply traumatic and very victim blaming. it cut me off from my church community and left me broken and completely disillusioned with all things christianity and church related. it was especially surprising because the church always felt pretty liberal, so the complete mishandling of things with my assault and the way i now realized they had manipulated and silenced me was so horrific. i never thought i’d be in this position of being unable to have faith or trust a church or christian community since. it’s very sad for me.

I'm atheist, and I've never had a problem with the message of what I call "logical religious people". Like Holden, there are many people that are religious while also having a foot in reality and accepting that not every word of their holy script translates to today's society. This is a wonderful documentary, and I really wouldn't bat an eye if I saw this on a mainstream cable channel. It's so well done!

As a young man (21 going on 22 in November) who has been a rebellious atheist in his early teens, to a questioning and less sure agnostic, to today where I am actively trying to be a better and more understanding Christian with a feeling of faith that’s hard to describe. Not that I’m without sin now I’m just trying to be better. With that being said the street preachers and the money churches were what pushed me away from scripture, believing it was polluted by the greed of man. I found my faith in my darkest moment pleading for a sign only to open my eyes to a bible. God and faith will always be something that can’t be spouted from the mouth of any man with total truth, it’s far more up to your own interpretation and what you take from the teachings than anyone will tell you.

If the Holy Bible says to street preach, then it doesn’t matter what people think of it. It should be done because God said so and Jesus himself did it. “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” - John 7:37 KJV “And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Acts 20:20-21 KJV The fact is that most people are going to Hell (according to the Lord Jesus - Matthew 7:13-14) and there is only one way to Heaven (that by faith in Jesus Christ- John 14:6, Romans 3:23-28). Not telling people this would be unloving. No real Christian wants other people to go to Hell, that’s why street preaching is necessary. If you don’t like people being told how to be saved, then that’s between you and God. But real Christianity has always been against the culture (because people are sinners by nature). Ye must be born again Holden! I pray you are.

I am an agnostic atheist at the moment, and previously I was initially Baptist growing up, and then I was a part of a non-denominational church. I have no problems at all with street preaching, only with the "Turn or Burn" method that we all see being used widely. Holden, I have to say that not only is this a masterpiece of a video that really looks at this group in Pensacola, however, both yourself and the people you interviewed talk about how you need to spread the love of God. You said it perfectly about how some preachers are just being a salesman, and are not trying to build a strong spiritual relationship with you. I just wanted to throw in my two cents, you're awesome Holden!

I was a ruckmanite till I was 15 when I left the cult. And please everyone don't be mistaken, Bible Baptist church is a cult. I suppressed my memories from this time in my life. I just realized in therapy recently that I didn't get a proper education because I was taught at home the same things I was taught in Sunday school at the church. I also remember being scared of the people that would run around screaming because they were possessed by the holy spirit. I also remember the extreme racism. Everyone that wasn't white weren't allowed to join. I started questioning this religion when I was 6 years old. I remember Dr. Ruckman pulling me to the side and telling me to stop questioning his teaching. I was very scared of him. I was home schooled and lived surrounded by family who were also in the church, but I still knew something was wrong. I did Street preaching with my dad when I was very young. It was extremely scary. I'm an atheist now, but I really appreciate this video, you are speaking the truth about that evil man that did nothing but spew hatred and vile things.

Thank you for the time and effort you've put into making this video and in speaking out against this version of "Christianity." As someone who grew up in church and still considers himself a follower of Christ, it breaks my heart to think of all the hypocrisy that is prevalent in the American church. I haven't been a member of a church or even regularly attended anywhere in years. And it isn't because I've ever felt like I lost faith in God or felt like my relationship with Christ has suffered. It's because of the people who are constantly claiming to be something they're not. Of course, most of those issues are my own that I need to work through, but hey, that's what therapy is for. Seriously, though... Thank you for putting this video out there. I think it's the kind of thing that people of any faith or no faith really should see to help us all understand that just because these loud voices on the street corners may be labeling themselves Christians that this is not what Jesus intended His church to become.

Another great video Holden, I love your movie reactions, but I also love it when you talk about the Lord and Christianity. I'm just a Sci-Fi geek who fell in love with Jesus years ago, but I used to be one of those Street Preachers who would tell people to turn and burn. It wasn't until later that I got a revelation or an understanding of God's grace in the written word which changed my life forever, and changed how I share the gospel. No longer screaming at people and telling them that they're going to hell; but now I just talk to people one-on-one and share God's grace with them and the love that He has for them. I guess you can say that I simply replaced religion with relationship... I'm an Evangelist, and I've been doing this for many years. What I tell Christians today is if you want to be seen, then preach on the streets; but if you want results, then just talk to people and share the gospel of God's grace with them as the Apostle Paul said to do... Anyway, thank you brother. I hope to see more videos like this in the future. God bless!

@caleburias5596 Mentioning that Hell is real and preaching about Hell are two different things. I'm quick to tell the lost that Hell awaits them if they die rejecting Jesus; however, I'm not going to spend time preaching about it.... The Bible says that it's the GOODNESS of God that leads to repentance, and not preaching on Hell that leads people to repentance. Paul said if you're not preaching the Gospel of Grace, then you're preaching a different gospel.

I understand your plight, but if you recall Paul stating who won't inherit the kingdom liars, adulterers, fornication, etc. These are biblical so they're talking biblical the only thing they would be wrong about is if they are hypocritical themselves still in open sin, but calling someone out or yeah just wanting attention themselves. Paul also said people will turn away from sound doctrine and develop itching ears they only want to hear the words they want that feels good to them that is dangerous because you're watering down the gospel. Isaiah, Jeremiah, and John wasn't doing any cookie cutter preaching. They told the truth. These guys methods maybe harsh but what they say is true even the word say many will be called but only a few will answer. Broad is the way that many follow that leads to destruction narrow is the way that leads to life that very few find. You can talk about God's love all you want, but if they confess their sins, ask for forgiveness, and repent of their sins they're in jeopardy of losing their souls. Go read Lazarus and the rich man when the rich man was in hell that wanted to come back to warn his brothers or wishing he knew and God told him you were warned my prophets were in the world. You have to give them the whole word not half. You're quoting Paul but Paul said who cares who preach The Bible long as The Bible is preach

Holdman! Big fan, first time watching ur informative content, but it’s really good. I like how u brought up Mathew 6:5-8, but that’s the problem with the Bible. Every time I see a quote I like, there are always others that contradict it (Mark 16:15). Eye for an eye vs turn the other cheek… it’s like a fuckin moral buffet and it’s not right. I’m now a ‘devout atheist’ 😂 but still try to live a moral life. U seem to be a very genuine person and I really like ur content. Keep it up!

"Tell the good news!" doesn't contradict "don't act holier-than-thou on street corners." In American history, was the 3/5th compromise the final goal of the abolitionists? Of course not, their ultimate goal was to eradicate slavery. The "eye for an eye" in the Old Testament was the first step in tightening the noose on immorality. Prior to "eye for an eye," people would respond exorbitantly. You steal from me, I burn down you house. You burn down my house, I murder your family. That's when eye for an eye was established. And just like the 3/5th compromise, it was a stepping point of gradual cultural change. Several years later, 3/5 Compromise was abolished and our black family are rightly viewed as equal, just as the abolitionists wanted from the beginning, despite the 3/5 Compromise. Jesus says "turn the other cheek" as the next moral step. Eye for an eye (and several other Old Testament rules, laws, and customs) were never the final law. Remember when Jesus says "Do not think I have come to abolish the law, but to fulfill the law." (Matthew 5:17) This is why. Thanks for watching my guy!

There ARE contradictions on the bible. But that's not one of them. There's a difference between preaching and praying. Matthew is about prayer and you speaking to God. Preaching is about connecting to people. Even the word "preaching" has many layers as much of the Bible states spreading the gospel is more like doing good and acting by his tenets so that people come to you, not specifically even just giving a sermon of some sort. But all in all you have to remember that the bible is being translated through languages and read the meaning, not exactly the word itself. The spirit of the Matthew line is to not go and show off in front of people to try to curb favor from God or to display superiority. The spirit of the Mark line is positive and optimistic about going and sharing with people the blessings you've learned and the joy of faith. There are some grays and actions we could discuss, like a pastor standing on a street handing out pamphlets and speaking to people. That feels fine and helpful and approachable. But not huge posters and megaphone yelling about how people are sinners and will burn...

Ruckmanites believe a works based gospel even though they say they believe in grace. They are too ignorant to understand the difference, they think the OT Saints were saved differently than we Saints in the NT are and that simply shows they have no understanding of what the bible truly says/reads. GREAT expose!!

Have you read the KJV my brethren? Salvation between the testaments is absolutely not the same. In the OT, Jesus did not yet die on the cross for our sins. Salvation was through the works of the laws given through Moses from God. In the NT, Salvation is through faith in Jesus' work on the cross and resurrection alone. And after the rapture of the church, during the 7 year tribulation, works plus faith will absolutely be needed. This is called dispensationalism and is the key that many people seem to be missing. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV. Dispensationalism is "rightly dividing the word of truth"..... to the right time periods and groups of people. The Bible was written to 3 groups; the Jews, Gentiles and the Church. You have to match scripture with scripture to understand accurately my friend.

The person calling I’m like ughh they just don’t want to be exposed. I remember when I was at my University there was this group trying to convince me & students to convert to Christianity. I told my pastor at the time before I left due to no longer feeling the same anymore. He said it’s not right to go to a school to convince others to join.

Grew up Catholic, even went to catechism school, but, now am an Atheist. I'm friends with many of different faith, like Christian, muslin and Hindu. I respect their beliefs, as long as they respect me as an individual. I can still see the beauty of their faith. Though up here in Boston, we don't get many street preachers, Videos like this are needed in order to hold those Christians accountable that bring negativity and the wrong message of the faith, which makes an Atheist, like myself, to look at them and what they preach as insne, and what most likely turn people off. I enjoyed this vid alot, and the message Holden is trying to send. Great work.

I like Ruckman. But I see the turn off. Ruckman had a large congregation. He also was very intelligent and went against much of the educated. The truth is that from what I have heard aligned with scripture. There is just a lot that the culture overlooks because it’s unpleasant. I don’t agree with all he says and his approach fully. He would agree that he was a negatively oriented preacher.

I come from a catholic family background but I’ve more become agnostic as I grew up, but i have seen my fair share of seeing these kind of people. Growing up they actually were always around my middle school I went to when I was living in California handing out little bibles and had the whole “go to god or burn in hell” bs signs with them. And years later they did what looked like a convention at the college I go to here in Texas. No joke, a riot almost started because of these guys. They definitely harm more than they help imo, and I can’t help but shake my head and just do my best to avoid them every time I see them.

Great content here, we do not have the authority to judge or condemn other people. Only God does. As Christians we should call out other Christians, or those claiming to be Christians, when they have lost their way and help them find the path again. Standing on the streets condemning non-Christians/other Christians to hell is not right at all. Also loved the “im caling the cops cause you’re on MY public sidewalk” guy haha

Part of me thinks that churches need to do a better job of coming together in the unity of Christ and calling out people like this publicly. Their silence is taken as complicity. Not "public" as in going down to their street corners and shouting them down, but "public" as in releasing joint statements denouncing things like this. I think the reason this doesn't happen is because of confessional differences between different groups of Christians. I just wish we saw more church/denomination leadership crossing the confessional divide to help and love and work with one another over what should bind all of us Christians together: Christ.

Great video, Holden. As someone who doesnt directly consider themselves "christian" but still hold a lot of believes that tend to intertwine with Christianity this video really clicked with me. As you talked about in this video I think the big thing that pushed me away was the constant fear mongering from relatives, pastors, or close friends. I felt like everything i did wrong meant an eternal life in hell or torture. And as you stated, i disliked the people spreading his message, and not the message itself. I love your content and your delicate touch on religion youve added here. Really hope you continue to do more content like this.

People like this come to my College all the time (not in Florida), and it really annoys me as a Christian. All I can think when I walk past these people is that this is the image that people might be getting in their heads if I tell them I am a Christian. It is as that one lady in the video said, completely against the way that Jesus went about making disciples. Jesus did argue with people and correct them often, but those weren't the sinning non-believers that he would do that with. It was the Pharisees and religious leaders who had incorrect teachings that he was correcting. In my mind, these types of street preachers would be the kind of people that Jesus would be correcting.

I’m a Christian from Milton Florida. We see street preachers once a while, and I want to confirm that this is not how you lead people to Salvation, it only drives them away even further. Jesus would not intend for us to go out and shout at people on the street. We lead people to Christ through love.

Gal 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Literally everyone in Gods word who was used of God to preach, preached publicly, greatest example: Jesus Christ my Lord This video is like trying to prove something to be wrong, when you are ironically completely wrong according to Gods word. Its more love to show someone the truth of where they are headed if they dont turn to Jesus Christ by faith, than sugar coat everything and never lead them to the truth. Jesus called the pharisees and such others "hypocrites and vipers" and with authority preached "Repent ye" and warned many times they they would "die in your sins" Your looking towards people who "profess" to be Christian to make you feel better about what you simply dont like.

Im an agnostic and my girlfriend is a mystic Christian. This was interesting. The reason Jesus’ words are so mysterious is because we don’t have anything he said first hand and we don’t have any words translated from when he was alive. It always develops a great conversation but when I try to start dialogue online; I get accused of being a religion-hating, evil atheist. Even here (in this comment section), I tried this only to be berated for bringing it up. You seem different but your brothers can be a pretty hard pill to swallow.

Noah was a “herald of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5). Solomon addressed the entire nation of Israel “with a loud voice” (1 Kings 8:54-56). Ezra called the people of Israel to repentance as they sat in the “open square” (Ezra 10:9-14). Ezra read the law of God and explained it to the people of Israel while standing before them (Nehemiah 8:1-8). Jeremiah stood at the gate of the Lord’s House and “proclaimed” the very words of God (Jeremiah 7:1-3). Jonah preached on the streets of Nineveh (Jonah 3:1-5). The prophets of old were hated by the people because they heralded the word of God at the city gates (Isaiah 5:29; Amos 5:10). The first street preacher, the first to herald the good news in the open-air, was John the Baptist (Matthew 3:1-2; Mark 1:4; Luke 3:3). Jesus sat atop a hill and preached the greatest sermon ever preached in the open-air - the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Jesus’s disciples preached on the streets in many villages (Luke 9:5-7). Peter preached in the open-air at Solomon’s Portico, after healing the lame beggar (Acts 3:11-26). Philip preached the gospel to large crowds on the streets of the city of Samaria (Acts 8:6-8). Paul preached the gospel to the entire city of Antioch. He was viciously heckled, yet all those whom God had appointed to be saved believed the gospel (Acts 13:44-52). Apollos boldly and publicly refuted the Jews and proclaimed Christ Jesus in Achaia (Acts 18:27-28). Paul stood before the judiciary of Athens, atop of Mars Hill, and preached to the men of Athens in the open-air (Acts 17:22-34). The Scriptures are rich with examples of street preaching. Street preaching is clearly a biblical practice, and those who engage in it follow in the footsteps of great men of the faith and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ruckmanites are specifically followers of Peter Ruckman. A big difference between then and a regular KJV-only Christian is that Ruckmanites believe that the KJV contains "advanced revelation" beyond the original Hebrew and Greek. A KJV-only just holds that it's the best/most accurate translation into English, but not advanced revelation.

Seriously, 911 for a non-emergency? Such a bold and strong believer… 10:17 Though, to be fair, he never said he was a believer. Judging by his character, he probably isn’t one.
