@@Chuckles_the_Jester the funniest part to me about all this is that the Joke that this would end up being a massive saw-style reveal was directly foreshadowed when Cal was first introduced.
@@LunarTales Even better is that the use of Saw's music and imagery ties into another big reveal about Cal--that entire movie was spawned by our reality trying to make sense of Cal's existence.
+Haruka yuzuki i spent that entire time just wondering, why they had yet to get rid of it every time i saw it. it was just there, polluting the image, polluting the story with his existence even from the first time i saw it i was just... wow, that thing's gonna be useless then, when Dave prototyped it and undid the prototyping, i was sure they got rid of it. then i saw it again! every time i saw it again i thought: "what the hell!? that thing is _still_ around!? god damn it! get rid of the thing! it's useless and takes up space! who knows it might even bring trouble later!" and now? well how do you like that? now i know it's worse than useless, it was poisonous baggage all along an anti Deus-Ex-Machina that was the single most stupidest thing in the list of stupid things the kids did in homestuck and it's a huge list of stupid things
***** cal is trash, cal is garbage you know what? correction! homestuck is trash homestuck is garbage damn, i'm so glad it's over, it's about time it stopped it should have ended before it started it was a complete waste of my time
***** i'm... i'm not fat ;_; do-don't call me fat i'm gonna make a big deal out of a mean comment on the internet geez dude, it's an opinion, i had my time wasted, i was pressured to read it, it ended giving me frustration, i'm venting on a nice spot, get over it ya little butt-hurt hamster cheek lord english lover
This is why Homestuck got so popular. Not only did it push the limits of Adobe flash, but it also pushed the limits of storytelling to the point that it’s barely even recognizable as a coherent plot. Oh but it’s still there of course, and you’ll know if you kept account of some dumb little doll that was a joke 4000 fucking pages ago.
@@Criz454 I mean at the time it was, but after its all been laid out the most confusing thing is its ending. Which confuses people because admittedly, the pacing gets horrendous around act 6
I still love that one of the most important things to take from this is that Equius was secretly one of the most important characters all along--he's literally a piece of the main villain. Lord English is huge, overly muscular and ungodly strong because it's all a twisted exaggeration of Equius. AR is part of him too. This is why Equius had to die, and why Gamzee cried at the sight of AR becoming one with Equiusprite. Oh, and remember when that stump first appeared all the way back in one of Hussie's earlier comics, and how it was said to give those who were near it the feeling of wanting to kill themselves? Now we know why. And that actually takes things to an even more terrifying level: The figure having this epiphany represents the readers, so does this mean that in the alternate "real world" connected to this story, tons of Homestuck fans committed mass suicide upon realizing the truth about everything?
@@WeavileShiny Hell, even the Saw references are entirely relevant, because it turns out the creation of Billy and by extension the entire Saw franchise is the result of our universe trying to comprehend Lil' Cal's existence.
Also the reason Doc Scratch was so great at manipulating people, it got that from the AI clone (AR) of the most manipulative bastard in the Alpha Universe, Dirk Strider.
I always saw the reader-suicide as the realization that LE has inflitrated our own reality and it's their "quick and easy sane solution" to the problem
Whenever Deltarune ends with one of the most earth-shattering twists of all time, I will simply redirect everyone here. Toby has only learned from the best.
In 2019, I sat down and finally read Homestuck past Act 2-3 for the first time. I'd known quite a few of the basic story beats through cultural osmosis; ectobiology, trolls, the scratch, Betty Crocker. The endless plot twists never fazed me, I'd caught onto time shenanigans and troll romance pretty quickly. But THIS. This is the part that broke me.
The funny thing is, cal and Caliborn are the same person. When doc scratch was being created Cal and the bark dna code were being used. Then lord English kinda grew out of doc scratch. Also CAL/CALiborn
The song is “Hello Zepp” from the Saw soundtrack if anyone is wondering. It played during a massive revelation/plot twist in the first movie, which is probably why it was used here. Well, that and the fact that it’s an absolute banger.
That and because Saw ties into Homestuck--according to Homestuck lore, Billy the puppet, and by extension the entire movie, was our reality's way of trying to make sense of Lil' Cal's existence.
Now that I'm thinking about it... Did Dave begin drawing comics because Cal influenced him to do that because Cal contains the soul of Dirk/AR because Dirk liked drawing comics too??? That would be a twist...
IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE. That makes perfect sense. If Cal was the one who influenced Gamzee into killing Nepeta and Equius by staring into the puppet, and if what people say is true that Bro was abusive towards Dave because of Cal's influence, then you better believe Cal's AR Dirk side influenced Dave into drawing.
@@deuce5546 Killing Nepeta wasn't part of the plan. If she'd done as Equius told her and stayed put, only Equius would've died. Because Equius is one of the souls needed to make Lord English, and Nepeta isn't.
@@ElFreakinCid Not exactly. In Caliborn's Homosuck, Nepeta is accused of getting in the way of Dave x Karkat, his one true ship. Caliborn also thinks Nepeta is useless. So, of course, Doc Scratch and Lil Cal would want to remove her.
@@ElFreakinCid Yes. But that would have doomed the timeline because spoilers: Nepeta Sprite is created by Gamzee with her corpse. That becomes Davepetasprite who is part of the Final Battle against Lord English in the Epilogues. And we know Doc Scratch has Homestuck and the Epilogues on his Computer. This means Doc Scratch used his Omniscience to tell Gamzee the thing to do that would make Nepeta reveal herself to him.
There's so many layers to the Saw references, every now and then I'll just notice another one and it'll make me laugh. One that came to mind a while back is that the last line in Saw 1, said by Jigsaw himself, is "game over", which links the name of the Game Over flash as part of the Caliborn Saw/Cheerfulbear references.
I'm done... That's it... Andrew Hussie. *You Won* Goodbye homestuck... Goodbye world... Mother if you are reading this... I love you, and give everything I own to my cat Guppy. Such a cruel world, Such a cruel world... *Gun Clicks*
this reads like going to prison for arson and your cellmate is just like "i accidentally stole a coke from a gas station" like bro u shouldnt be here!!!
God watching all these connections be made live on Tumblr while it was happening and then the next update we got was this flash. Homestuck was such a wholly unique experience and being there in the community was half of it.
@@PlumbG64 yeah just stop after s cascade and just think up your own ending you ain't missing out on much act 6 is like poison it's not as bad in the beginning but slowly it gets worse and worse and when it ends you feel like you have just been wasting you're time.
It's a mix of Lil Cal, Gamzee, AR, and Equius. The general summary without getting too much into time bullshit shenanigans is that Lil Cal is basically a large, paradoxical, self-perpetuating catalyst for the arrival of Lord English. In one timeline, the Alpha and Beta Kids went to Caliborn, and after an arduous battle, they sealed him, half of Gamzee, and ARquiusprite into the doll, and Roxy subsequently banished it into the void, which then allowed Gamzee, much earlier in his timeline, to conjure Lil Cal in Dave's Derse bedroom, which led to it's existence in both the pre and post scratch Earth Universes. The Pre-Scratch split one was kept by Bro, used and haunted Dave constantly, and ended up being taken by Bec Noir after Bro's death. When Bec Noir entered the Trolls session, he tossed it at a Doomed Aradiabot clone, which teleported herself and Cal into the path of a reckoning meteor and was blasted into Alternia's past, being found by an earlier, alive, aradia, and subsequently repaired and kept by Kanaya, before later being found by Gamzee and influencing him to go murder mode. The puppet was ectobiologically cloned, along with Vriska's Cueball, to become Doc Scratch, Alternia's First Guardian, and later Lord English's new Body. The Post Scratch version of cal became empty and was kept by Dirk until somehow zonking him out and getting itself tossed into the sea, where it was later found eons later by Gamzee and given to Caliborn, who recognized it as a JuJu (a cherub artifact that has no beginning or end in terms of its timeline), and poured part of his will and effort into it. This Cal was later sent into B2 Noir's Cell, where he was then Possessed by Caliborn's will and became Lord Jack, which is basically Lord English but in Jack Noir's body.
The Lil Cal that Union Jack received was destroyed with the crowbar, and placing the eyes in his sockets gave him Lord English powers. The one Caliborn had was banished to the Furthest Ring by Roxy after being filled up by Dirk, and was summoned from it into Dave's room by Gamzee. A juju is an object that was never created or destroyed, and if there's more than one copy the loose ends get tied up. In this case, the meteor split sent the Lil Cal with Lord English's soul to Earth Beta, where it was eventually destroyed; an empty one went to Earth Alpha, where it was filled up and became the original.
