You have just helped keep many Saabs on the road! I rebuilt my rear axle years ago. Sure wish I had your video back then. 😁

great video. I'm close to doing this plus rear spring and shock replacement on my 2.1 sedan. Just waiting to get some AP9 engineering spring seats once the money situation allows. I usually put anti-sieze on every fastener I take out or replace to make life easier in the future but all yours look really clean which is nice.

Terrific video! Thank you for posting. About to tackle this job on my ‘90 900s. Your video helps so much! If you don’t mind...where did you find your bushings? Most are not available via the US parts companies. Thanks again!

I got them at an Norwegian SAAB club. But some of them was also avilable at the local former Saab dealer. Akso some are avilable at a regular aftermaket car part shop.

Great channel Terje! I love it and it already helped me multiple times when working on my c900 convertible :) Quick question - how do you usually lift the rear of the car? Do you use a hydraulic jack in the center? Could you recommend one? I would be also interested if you use any rubber pads for the jack stands, I'm afraid of deforming the mounts. Maybe a small video could help :) I think many people wonder how to do it properly with c900.
@TerjeNormann
@TerjeNormann 2 года назад
Sorry for late reply.... Do NOT lift your car under the middle of the rear axel. You can then bend the axel. I use to lift under the spring link arm on each side and then put a jack stand under each of the jack points in fornt of the rear wheels. Yes, I use to put some rubber pads between the jack mounts. ;) In this video I lift the rear axel with the jack under the middle of the axel, but I did not lift the weight of the car, just the axel and push a bit in the tention of the rear springs.

@TerjeNormann

I replaced the bottom front bushings and ball joints the year before, and the upper front bushings and the rear bushings in the same operation. I think the front replacement gave the moust improvements. It feals more steady and smooth. But, I also think I will get a even better improvement when I get to replace shock absorbers and springs. And maybe also new engine mounts will give a huge difference.

Awesome !! What is the software at the beginning of the video to see which part to change with number and other informations ?
@TerjeNormann
@TerjeNormann 2 года назад
It is called "Saab Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC)" It is a software I have on my computer. I got it shared from some friend, but can not find the place I downloaded it from. If you go to www.esaabparts.com/, you see the parts you can buy there out of the parts catalogue, but that is not the complete catalogue.

Amazing video. Im going through the same proces at the moment and this video has been a huge help. Thanks for sharing! At 15:10 where you press in the support arm bushing: Did you succeed just using the vice? I am having a really hard time getting the bushings in without deforming or damaning them. All other bushings went in a lot easier. Any advice? Purchased from KL racing in Sweden.
@TerjeNormann
@TerjeNormann Год назад
Yes, I did it all exact like showed in the video. Make sure ot lube the bushings before pressing, and use some soap or other that is not harmful for the rubber.

In the end I bought new bushings for the older version of the support arm, and they fitted much better.

hi , any torque measurements?

Very good video clearly showing the detail of the job. What was the liquid (from the yellow bottle) you put on the new bush before installing it? Does the ABS sensor wire go into the suspension spring before the metal clip? (I think so but want to be sure). Also, I think the music is great, it really fits the video and is very relaxing to watch this video because of the music. Thank you.
@TerjeNormann
@TerjeNormann Год назад
Thank you very much for the nice words... ;) I used regular dish washing soap to lube the rubber bushings, to make them easier in. Make sure not to use any oil or liquid that cam be harmful for the rubber. I did not understand your question about the ABS sensor wire.
@wotantroll5502
@wotantroll5502 Год назад
@@TerjeNormann thank you for your quick reply. I was asking if the ABS sensor wire sits in the suspension spring first, then the clip is fitted afterwards to hold the wire in place. Your suspension looks so clean. I am currently trying to restore my suspension and your video is a great help. Regards.
@TerjeNormann
@TerjeNormann Год назад
@@wotantroll5502 You kind of just repeated the same question, so I did not get any further to understannd your consern. The wire does not go anywhere near the suspension coil sprimg. It is going all along the arm from the galva bracket at the body bushing, and in the fold on the arn held by the two small clips that i hammered on, and to the galva bracket at the rear end of the arm. Then the wire goes in a curve in the air and into its hole in the hub.
@wotantroll5502
@wotantroll5502 Год назад
@@TerjeNormann yes sorry. I meant does the ABS sensor wire go in to the fold of the suspension arm before the clip? Then the clip goes on after the wire is in the fold? Regards.

I’m about to replace the torque arm bushings. Do you happen to remember the size of the wrenches needed to remove it from the body (by the gas tank on the passenger side), starting at 1:35 in the video?

Ohhh... I wa so sure it was covered in the video, but as I now checked, you're right... It was not showen in the video... But I did it the same way as I did the torque rods, in the bench wice... They was very tight and hard to get in...actually.

Why not poly bushings?
@TerjeNormann
@TerjeNormann Год назад
Because this is not a Turbo racing car. This is a convertible cruising car. Out of my observations, moust of them who prefer the poly bushings are those who likes to speed up hard at curvy roads and feal like the car goes like on rails, but does not care that much about to have the moust comfortable ride.
