Here is my opinion for the first place saddest backstory - Guts. He was born while his mother was being hung, his dad abused him and he was sold to another soldier who molested him, he had to kill him and he ran away being a bandit of some kind he was defeated my Griffith and was forced to work for him but he sooned learn he would like working for him than he left the group and learned that Griffith was captured and went to rescue him, after he rescued him Griffith betrayed him r*a*ed his love interest, killed all of his friends and only him and casca survived, but she had memory lost and her baby who was Guts kid was turned into a demon baby, also guts was now eternally doomed for Hell, he lost his arm too and is now haunted by almost everything to try and kill him. There is more but that’s just some of it

When i read the one piece manga and saw that, i literally cried. this man and his parents were enslaved by the celestial dragons. And his mother was killed by a celestial dragon. And when the father told kuma this, he was sad. So the father tried to cheer him up by mimicking the character joyboy's movements but while he was doing this, kuma started to smile. And right when he smiled, a celestial dragon shot his father in the head right in front of him. And ON TOP OF THAT THIS MAN'S WIFE DIED TO A DISEASE THE CELESTIAL DRAGONS GAVE HER 15 YEARS LATER AND HE WAS ENSLAVED AGAIN AND TURNED INTO A ROBOT

He literally spent more than a decade searching for a discontinued doll because his daughter wanted one. Even though his parents treated him like absolute sh*t! He still went outta his way to find their repossessed gnome that his father loved so much for Father’s Day and not to mention creating that kickball inator so his mother would show him some love cause he remembered how much she loved kickball.
