The journey continues on our 28ft sailboat. In this episode we explore Seaham, collect some local sea glass, learn the history of the local lifeboat and explore an alien beach!
We started our adventure in summer when we made a life changing decision to leave our jobs, pack everything up and move aboard our 28ft boat! We set sail north, but were delayed by a series of issues. Now back on track we are cruising the North East coast of England on the way up to Scotland! Join us as we share our experiences of sailing and living aboard our small boat.

Yeah definitely stop off there next year, the harbour staff are so friendly and welcoming, there’s some nice little bars and cafes around the marina too. 😊

Seaham was really interesting, we missed it on our sail south along the coast. Great weather and the engine was purring. We’re feeling a bit fenced in here in the marina, behind a gate & up the river after so many months on the move - looking forward to your reports as the year moves on.

@@gavin_and_james_sailing BTW love the glass history in Seaham. We are not sure when we’ll head south in the spring. We’re visiting friends in India Feb/Mar, sailing charter in Greece with S&CA boys for a week in early April. Hope to point Zanzibar toward the Bay of Biscay - Spain - Portugal in late May.

@@gavin_and_james_sailing, the short days were a drag in Oct for sure😅. We found ourselves sailing in the dark more & more, not a favourite with all the fishing buoys on the east coast. We’re just starting to do some research on passage to the Med. Will keep you posted on plans.

Thank you for following and glad you are enjoying the videos. Sounds so exciting, what boat have you bought? One bit of advice we would give is not to overthink everything and just do it. We spent so long worrying about the what ifs and trying to make the boat perfect for living aboard and in the end we just bit the bullet and moved on and we love it and are still upgrading the boat now. Its changed our life so much for the better and we are much happier now. Happy New Year to you too.

@@gavin_and_james_sailing we have 31ft cruiser minstrel soreeco 1973 when we first bought her we were told she was ready to sail but once we looked closer we realized her electrics were almost non existent and no water bladder among a few other things so we've spent the last couple of months working on that hoping to get electrics finished next week then in April taking her out the water for 2 weeks then hopefully she will be sea ready, just another question I have is how do you support yourselves ?we have a bit saved but won't last forever do you work at all? Patreon? Have a good one guys x

We have some savings that we have planned to use, but we are really trying to make a go of RU-vid like a lot of other sailing channels. You can liveaboard fairly cheaply as you don't have many bills. Our biggest cost would be marinas, but we are going to try anchoring out a bit next season. We have a coffee account and may do Patreon later but still early days for us. Good luck with your new boat, sounds great. Keep an eye out for our next video as its a full boat tour and we will show a few things we have done to equipt it for living aboard.

Hey both - thanks for the brilliant and interesting videos. I'm a wheelchair user, and we have just bought a boat to get me out and about given I can no longer access the mountains, beaches and forests I used to spend all my time in. I found you via a post on Facbeook in a sailing group. Hoping it'll help my mental health. We cannot wait to get out on our own vessel because we too are going to head to the Caledonian Canal, but from the West coast (I'm from Yorkshire, but we live in North Wales). Keep adventuring.
