Good review. If I didn't have more than enough shoes in my rotation, (plus some new in the box) I would really consider buying it because here in Central Texas heat and humidity is clearly felt as well. I think it didn't increase in weight too much because the upper is minimal. Minimal heal counter, minimal tongue and mono mesh upper and no gusset. There is almost nothing to trap sweat.

Thank you for your review, Matt. Isn't it a tad strange that Solomon would charge $160 for this shoe when they are trying to break into the running market? For that price, a runner could buy almost any non-carbon shoe (Hoka, NB, etc) , and yet what does Solomon bring to the table? Nothing unique. (Well, the all-blue black "murdered out" look, I suppose...lolol). What do you think?

This is a great question that I’m not qualified to answer, but I have thoughts and opinions. Salomon is a large company that invests substantial resources into R&D as well as marketing strategies. With that said, I imagine their research has dictated their pricing and features. As far as not offering anything unique, I would suggest uniqueness is not always a benefit. It seems the big running companies do not have “unique” designs/styles/technology and shoes today generally evolve at a glacial pace (the first VaporFly and AlphaFly being exceptions). Price point is both an art and a science, albeit a social science; I would think predictive models show this price point will lead to the greatest profit. Salomon sells far less expensive road running shoes, but less expensive shoes are for a specific corner of the entire market. This shoe and it’s price is targeted at a different corner, and due to its Energy Blade, is not really competitive with non-plated shoes. While I would always prefer shoes to be less expensive, this shoe feels fast like the Endo Speed 2, but a bit of a softer ride so, IMO, the price is competitive.

This shoe has a lot of resemblance in its features to the deviate nitro elite, which is possibly my favorite shoe. Too bad I have too many shoes if not this seems like something I would really like.

I’ve run in the Deviate Nitro (not elite) and loved that shoe! Yes, the Phantasm is very similar in all the best ways, but it has a slightly softer ride.

Hey Martin! Thanks for watching! Yes, the Phantasm fit very similar to the Pulsar! That's probably going to change this year as i've heard Salomon is completely redoing the upper of the Phantasm!

The midsole felt fairly soft, although far from plush. I thought it felt like a softer Endorphin Speed.

Great review, suitable for wide feet? How stable is the heel? I run a few days ago in the Vaporfly and where the road was broken I really had to slow down or turn my ankle.. Don't have this with other shoes. I guess the high stack and uber soft ZoomX with narrow heel makes the back of the shoe unstable..

These are super stable, especially compared with the Vaporflys. The Vaporflys are like a drag racer; they’re only good in a straight line. I’ve worn Salomon’s in the past and thought they were narrow, but these didn’t feel narrow at all. They were very comfortable sized in the toe box. Nike shoes are notoriously narrow, so if you fit in the Vaporfly, my guess is you’ll fit in the Phantasm just fine. Reminder: I dropped a 1/2 size in the Phantasm from Nike.

Which. number Speed? I prefer the Endo Speed 3 and 4 more than these, but I would probably take these over the Speed 2

I understand that these run about a half size larger than most other shoe brands but how is the sizing in this model versus other Salomon shoes? Ive read a few reviews stating these run even bigger than other Salomons.

I've only had one other pair of Salomon's and those ran very narrow. The Phantasm feel a lot more normal in the width to length ratio for my foot.

Overall, it was fairly good. It felt fast! My main trouble with it was the upper. It was tough to get on and felt a little narrow. I’m testing v2 and the upper feels much better.

@@its_Matt_B_ I think it was the looks that attracted me when you reviewed it originally. I really like the latest black trend, the ‘triple black’ look, the adidas pro 3s, Nimbus 25s and Kayano 30s all look good in black, not sure I want a black race shoe, but don’t want the Kayano to ‘cage’ me in too much, so Nimbus 25 triple black it is I think!
