Sony is the problem that's it. Raimi wanted to make it TWO PARTS but no Sony had to come in and ruin it with all their stupid demands and it killed the franchise. I always wanted to see what the 4th spider man would've been like.
Carnage was purely fans wanting to see him, in reality Sam Raimi said that Vulture and Black Cat were intended to be the villains with John Malkovitch and Anne Hathaway both confirming their castings, however literally the next day the cancellation of Spider-man 4 was announced.
Movies now need sequels and spinoffs and appearances of other characters from other movies to justify it's existence. They can't just be stand alone. They need other objects and other movies to make people realize it's there at all. It's all about money and not passion for movie making. Go Sam Raimi🙌
Erick Mii it happens sometimes in action movies particularly in James Bond movies when the main villain is defeated and you think it's over only to have the secondary villain attack.
Both The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy had way more characters than Spiderman 3. Too many characters was not the problem. *Balancing* those characters was. Ultimately, this was studio meddling and writing, not bad directing.
I'll buy that. I'm not sure it can't be done though, it would just mean focusing more on the villains in a film and exploring them better. The Lord of the Rings spent time with a lot of different villains and seemed to handle it pretty well. The important difference is the villains were all connected in LOTR and they were not in Spiderman 3. Also, Guardians had a number of villains. Ronan, Thanos, Nebula and The non-villain antagonist Yondu, plus henchmen, which is about the same as Spiderman 3. Guardians just formatted the relationships between the antagonists better.
Geahk Burchill and in LOTR they had 3 movie each about 3 hour if extendid cut 3-4 hours Spider man 3 was too short it may have worked as 3 hour movie at least 2 and a half
xXeliteJazz Believe me, I don't disagree that Spiderman 3 messed up in how it presented three villains. I'm just saying I don't think it's impossible to have three villains and make it work. I don't think having too many characters was *'the'* reason Spiderman 3 didn't work. I think it was the writing. A well written movie could have easily handled that many characters and done it just fine. Marvel has shown this over and over. Lot's of movies have multiple villains and they work. Kill Bill is another example. So are many Jackie Chan movies, or most British Crime films or revenge films. The list can go on for a while. I think too many critics put the blame on the number of characters and miss that the over-all structure of the film was a mess. It was a film that exemplified "Too many cooks", you can see all the different people trying to cram too many tones and ideas into one film without considering the whole. Spiderman three failed because it was made by committee. There were too many characters *outside* the film, not inside it.
You're definitely wrong about that whole 'it's the choices that make us who we are' being a bad line. The whole point was that he realised that there is a fine line between good and evil and that he had in fact crossed this line earlier in trying to kill sandman; thus the line 'I too have done terrible things' in the preceding scene.

You know what, that actually would've improved the film by far in my opinion and we may have had fear of Harry yet. But the character is incredibly goofy thanks to Sony.
I loved this movie. I do not care what people say. It may have flaws but every movie has flaws. This movie is hated way too much. The action is great, the music is beautiful, and the villains were awesome, they had a good amount of development. Tell me I am wrong but this is my opinion..
I agree with most things you said except a couple of points… Mary Jane was going to tell peter about the play then Gwen Stacy comes along and gets M.J. mad at peter because of never talking about her and sharing a kiss in public, and when he killed sandman remember he had the black suit on and he felt more angered and willing to do something like kill sandman, which would never have happened had he been in his normal spider suit
To answer a few questions: 1. The reason why Peter is less shy here is because he has finally managed to piece together the once broken parts of his life. 2. The hysterical dancing montage is to show that under the influence of the black suit, Peter becomes not only more vengeful but also selfish and arrogant. 3. Harry spent 3 years fixing the performance enhancers. 4. Sandman became Uncle Ben's true killer to challenge Peter's simplistic perception of the event.
Harry losing his memory was not pointless. It showed that the real Harry was not really gone, only burdened down by the Green Goblin formula. Thus when he switched back to being Peter's friend and helped him fight Sandman and Venom, it made sense.
Some of your 'Wait, what?'' questions are a bit silly, namely the: 1.) ''Why would Peter go to bed in his Spidey costume?'' He was waiting all night to get a police report on the whereabouts of Marko. He was exhausted and fell asleep. 2.) ''Gwen Stacy conveniently being in the same restaurant as Peter and MJ.* What about the amazing coincidence that the same crook Peter lets escape in Spidey 1 winds up killing his uncle. And she said she was having dinner with her folks. It's called ''Parker luck'' :D. 3.) ''Hypocritical much?'' Peter was under the influence of the symbiote and was therefore not thinking straight. I think that was pretty obvious due to the maniacally mouthed ''Good riddance'' line. 4.) ''Door boarding.'' Now this is what I call nitpicking :D Spidey's been known of doing some pretty weird stuff in all of his incarnations (even in the movies) - check out Spectacular Spider-Man and the insanely silly stuff he does there. It's there for fun and to further showcase Pete's lightning fast reflexes that go in line with his quick thinking. Those were just a few, but still - really liked the review. It would of made more scene if sandman was forced to team up with venom like in the video game. Where he's daughter was held captive and stuff. Even though that game sucked (atleast the ps2 and wii version) It would of made more scene then him simply going after spiderman. However this would leave a plot hole of how venom knew sandman's family. It would of also been better if harry didn't die like you said and was did not have the huge amount of filler in the movie.
The original storyboards actually give us exactly what you're after except for Venom kidnapping Penny. In these storyboards, there's a scene of Sandman watching his daughter from afar at a playground (ironically she's playing in a Sandpit), Flint is then approached by Eddie in civilian attire (he's bonded with the symbiote at this point) to which Eddie realises Flint has a daughter and leaves. They later have the alley scene where I assume Venom threatens Flint's family (dialogue wasn't included yet), thus Flint reluctantly teams up with Venom. During the final battle, Sandman's family arrive and convince him to stop his attack on Spider-man and he does. Similarly, Gwen Stacy shows up to plead Eddie to stop, however he embraces his evil and declares himself Venom. I'm guessing they had shots of Flint and Eddie's faces on the news so that's how both Penny and Gwen knew it was them.
Your rundown of how Spiderman 3 should have played out as 2 movies is pretty much perfect. I'm really sad this didn't happen as this was the Spiderman movie I was most excited about before I saw it in theaters.
How to fix Spider-Man 3: -Remove the Stacy family from the movie, We don't need a cliché love triangle in the story. -Remove Sandman AND VENOM! (I know he's a fan favourite but he didn't need to be in this movie, they could've saved him for another film) -Make Harry the main and ONLY villain, and have him put Peter through ABSOLUTE HELL by going after him and everyone he loves in completely devious and fucked up ways(Oh and also don't go that stupid New Goblin route, turn him into the GREEN GOBLIN). -If going this route then don't shy away from the serious tone that the story would deserve. A story like this would require the film to be the darkest one in the original trilogy. -Have Peter and MJ be honest with each other and support each other. -During the climax have Peter and Harry go full on bumper cars on each other, and at the end of the fight, Peter gets pissed and just starts railing on Harry, so much so that Peter almost kills him and the only reason he doesn't is because MJ stops him. -Afterwards have Peter explain to Harry how his father died and that he would never do something like kill his father because he knows what that would do to Harry. -And just when you think it's all over, Harry commits suicide by detonating a pumpkin bomb in his face leaving behind a skull where his head used to be. I know that's basically what Chris Stuckmann said during his review, but still that would have been an awesome movie. And I would imagine the final shot of the movies being Peter and MJ walking into the sunrise as the camera pans down to Harry's skull, the responsibility theme playing, fade to black, end credits. And hey, Spider-Man 4 could have opened with Harry's funeral, and then a time jump to present day. A guy can dream.

Your part 1 + 2 Idea for the movie is literally what should have happened. I love how in the 90's TV show Venom is taunting Spider-Man constantly in his personal life and superhero life. That would have been great for the film. You'd be able to truly feel Peter's stress and desperation for Venom to be out his life.
But that is really where his opportunity for change should come in. Even though he's under the influence of basically a drug, he should really see that killing isn't who he is and it goes against everything Uncle Ben taught him. In the comics Peter sees the opportunity for change and takes it. Almost killing someone should wake him up. After all if he DOES kill, then what would make him see that he's going too far? I think killing people intentionally is far worse than accidentally hitting MJ
I think Sam's idea of splitting this movie into two parts sounds really good and thinking about it makes me feel even MORE disappointed that we'll never see that happen.
I loved spiderman 3. One of my favorite movies of all time, just my opinion! c: But seriously though, I think that people are saying that emo parker ruined everything are just stupid. It might not have been very funny, but it didn't ruin ANYTHING. The rest of the movie was great in my opinion.
I actually think they handled making Sandman sympathetic a lot better in the second season of Spectacular Spider-Man. I like how while he was motivated by personal gain, he still had a conscious and wasn't out to harm innocent bystanders.
I don't think spiderman 3 is as bad as people say, but it was SUCH a letdown. Spiderman 2 was just so great, my expectations were really high. I think spiderman 2 was really light-hearted and fun so spiderman 3 could've taken a really dark and interesting turn, especially considering what Harry discovered at the end of spiderman 2. I think it was a mistake to start the film as Peter being so happy-go-lucky. I think if Sam Raimi gave the symbiote more attention and effort this film could've been amazing. Sandman should've been saved for a later film. Spiderman 3 just got too silly, it's such a shame. I don't think it's awful, but it kills me to see such wasted potential.
The original script had the villains of Vulture (come on can we ever see him but to film) and Sandman with Harry debating on to attack Peter and not to.

It was not Sam Raimi's fault. He never had the intention of adding Venom to the third film, but the greedy producers forced him to do so to squeeze as much money as possible out of Venom's presence in the film. Yeah, it was a financial success, but also a disappointing let-down when we already had the first solid two films. Anyway, it is the past now. TASM 2 managed to break the trough of Spider-Man movies, so i'm quite happy now.

they made harry die so that he would die the same way as his father by getting stabbed by his glider which could have been ironic and even emotional but they need to develop the character a bit more
I reckon the sandman and venom team up should have been done the way it was done in the video game. In the game, Venom kidnapped Sandman's daughter and forced him to help or he would have killed her, if they had done that in the movie, it would have been more believable
It would be a better choice if Peter was already with the symbiote when he found out that Marko was the one who killed Uncle Ben. Then, because of the symbiote, he gets angry and hunts Marko. Marko does not get the money he needs to buy medicines to his daughter. When he finds out, he was too late. His daughter was about to die, and no medicine could save her. With spider-man being the reason he didn't get any money, he wants revenge.
If you think about it this movie is just like Sonic 06, both have tons of things removed from the finished product (Black suit Spiderman on Brooklyn Bridge and free roam Super Sonic), both have 3 to 4 villains depending on how you look at things, and both had a deleted character (Metal Sonic and Vulture)
The reason for the bomb's obliterating of the symbiote and not Harry is blatantly because the symbiote has a weakness to explosives. The reason for Spider-Man going to a church, is obviously because the symbiote also has a glaring weakness to sound, which a big church bell can supply. Other than that, very spot on review.
"Spider-Man 3" was the most controversy superhero film that most audiences and critics hated this movie. Although it may be the hellish production that studio wanted to have the third movie to be spectacular, it could've made it better. The result is that people are getting tired of seeing the third film which they wanted to approve more good like other two classic two "Spider-Man" films. People hated the villains, over the top scenes, emo Peter Parker, melodramatic love scenes, MJ broke up Spider-Man is pretty pointless, Peter dancing, and the whole investment is pretty underwhelming. But to me, I don't find this movie that bad and yes it's a guilty pleasure to see funny scenes and making "Spider-Man 3" to be cheesy and everything is pretty stupid, I think it's pretty good film. Not amazing, but a decent film. Tobey Maguire is great in his movie until he becomes over the top emo Peter was pretty too much in his motivation. MJ is alright until the middle is pretty obvious and trying to go back like being disposed. Come on, why does MJ broke up Peter of not telling Harry is going to kill him and not defending her boyfriend? Why? And then nothing happens and once again, she goes back of being damsel of distress again. Dumb red headed whore! The villains were pretty good like Harry Osborn and Sandman. Osborn gets few motivations of being a new Goblin and Sandman had some great moments like the sand effects and I totally invested with that incredible scene where he becomes a sand villain. Topher Grace was terrible as Eddie Brock Jr. and he's a useless character that he has no abilities whatsoever. Just being a wimp photographer and just be Venom for only 10 min. at the end. The Black suited Spider-Man is pretty memorable to see and I like the design where he appears in it until he turned into Emo is pretty irrelevant. The plot is okay, the action scenes were quite fun and entertaining, and there are good moments that I actually enjoy the most. But until the middle half and being Emo throughout the movie was pretty dumb. Not bad film, but a decent one. There you have it folks, the last "Spider-Man" film has come to end in the 2000's and the legacy has finally approved. Until the 2010's...😞

I always assumed the scene at the end of Spider-Man 2 where Harry sees his father is the moment Harry finally snaps and is overwhelmed by the events around him. I thought that in Spider-Man 3, the only focus would be a threatening Harry who has mentally collapsed and is now deranged (similar to his father), trying his damnedest to make Peter suffer before he kills him. Damn the debacle between Sony and Sam Raimi.
The Amazing Spider-Man is a smarter movie, but I enjoy watching Spider-Man 3 more. One has a better script where the other is more entertaining. I can't say either is a better movie. A movie can't JUST have a better-than-spiderman-3 script, it needs to be entertaining. However a movie can't just have better-than-amazing-spiderman entertainment, it needs a good script... I'm not sure I can decide. Sorry, I did PLAN on giving you a solid answer haha
Here's why I didn't care about Venom not being in the movie for very long. The final fight to me wasn't just Spider-man Vs Venom. It was about Peter, having just ripped off the suit, fighting his own demon in an external form. I also thought Peter trying to kill Sandman and Harry was just supposed to be him becoming corrupted by the simbiote, which, for me, makes the scene where he removes the suit and the finale when he fights it all the more satisfying.
Hear, hear. The Venom of the comics is much more menacing and cool, but this version isn't bad to me. Eddie Brock has ALWAYS been a whiny twit with no concept of the real world. And that scene where Peter goes for the black suit only to pull out and stare at the red and blues is one of the best scenes in the film. So much is being said there without a word of dialogue
I think the reason why the gas didn't make Harry crazy is because he probably made a different formula and the one that Norman used in the first one was the original formula as the original formula made Norman crazy and the one that Harry used was probably a successful formula so that's probably why he didn't go insane, and great review/video as usual Sam
i think this movie proves that spider-man would work best as a TV show because there are so many character that return later and take time to build up through out the issues

I'm so glad somebody else is bothered by Sandman walking away from Venom when they first meet! Venom scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I couldn't even look at an image of him without getting freaked out. I used to turn away from the TV towards the end of the 90s series intro. The fact that Sandman sees him and walks away without a care, annoys the hell out of me!
I always thought that the reason Sandman didn't help Venom at the end was because he learned who Spiderman was and understood his motive. Before he learned, he thought Spiderman wanted to make him miserable and was trying to kill his daughter.
Some of the questions have answers. The pumpkin bombs depending on the need will vary. The one Spidey throws at the synviot is one that turns everything on it's radius to skeletans. Why all of Eddie's skeletan disappeared though is beyond me.
Peter went to sleep with the suit on so in case something were to happen like a robbery or something , he would already be ready and all he would need is his mask.
This is my favorite review of Spider-man 3 and here's why, a lot of other reviews will pick a certain amount of points to bring up, and even when they do, they don't go into great detail on that certain point, they just say a couple of sentences and then move on to the next point, this guy doesn't do that, he explains EVERYTHING that's wrong with it and goes into huge detail for each point as to why it's a bad thing, it's awesome for that.
I considered him an Anti-Hero more than a villain personally because his motivations weren't as large scale, and were just against Peter. Deadpool as a character could and has done both heroic and villainous things, just like Harry in the movies.
I believe the extended directors cut of Spider-Man 3 THE way to watch SP3 it cut one scene entirely and made the ending of Harry greater than the theatrical cut. Also certain scenes were changed in the movie for plot reasons and made them better for storytelling. I also believe the main reason why they took him to sacrifice himself is because he said in the hospital scene “I’d give my life for them” it was foreshadowing. Kinda was seeing coming in a way but I didn’t expect it.

The way you describe how this movie would have played out if it was split into two parts is exactly what should have happened. Also everything that they tried to do with Sandman in this film i feel was achieved of much higher quality in Spectacular Spider man.
When I first saw it, I loved it and did think it was the best Spider-Man movie. Then I rewatched it, because my friends said I was unfairly hating on Amazing Spider-Man and praising Spider-Man 3. And I did see that it was the weakest of the Raimi trilogy. However, I still think the film gets WAY too much hate. No, it doesn't hold a candle to Spider-Man 2, but Spider-Man 2 is one of the greatest superhero films of all time. Spider-Man 3's plot was somewhat confusing and had way too many conveniences, but I think its has some interesting characterizations, and despite it's conveniences, the plot is still fun. I think the Black Suit is what keeps the film together. The emo thing was some comic relief, but in all honesty, Black Suit Spidey IS scary. He becomes motivated by revenge and anger, and we can see that in his confrontations with Harry and Sandman. What he does to Mary Jane is rather scary. He just becomes a relative dick.
In Venom: Part 2, we meet Carnage and he meets Shriek, the Spider-Ganger (aka Doppelganger), Demogoblin, and Carrion. After Venom: Part 2 we move on to other arcs, such as Sins Past and the Clone Saga.
Hey Sam, the reason why Peter struggles to take off the suit off in the bell tower scene is because the symbiote relies on Peter's anger and rage to survive on him. Now that Peter realizes that it's taking him over the symbiote won't let him, it's already too strong. Plus the ringing of the bell makes it harder for him to take off the symbiote
New Goblin had to die. 1) To wrap up the trilogy long Osborn arc. 2) If New Goblin had lived.... _Spider-Man 4_ would be weird with Harry being another super-powered being in town, either to do stuff on his own, or play sidekick to Peter. In this universe, the norm is Spider-Man seems to be the only super hero....and then a new super-powered villain is born every so often. Very simple and linear.
I definitely agree with the whole Harry thing, it's like the writers didn't give a crap about him and his only purpose was to make Peter and Mary Jane look like better characters. Killing him off at the end was stupid too, like you said, he didn't kill anyone...

13:55 The red/blue suit in Peter's closet was a spare, honestly only a fool hero would only have one costume, the suit knew he would put it back on eventually, but it struggled to stay on when he actually is determined to get rid of it. I'll admit, I don't get why he's naked when it the symbiote comes off unless the symbiote ate the original suit so it could bond directly with Peter
5. Sam Raimi thought that Harry Osborn would not follow his father's legacy as The Green Goblin, but instead be somewhere in between. 6. Peter can remove the black Spider-Man suit easily because the suit has a will of his own and it knew Peter wasn't going get rid of him yet. 7. Harry sees Norman's ghost because he is an alcoholic. 8. Peter has 2 spare Spider-Man suits. 9. Aunt May tells Peter to forgive himself and learn from his mistakes to live up to them.
Sam was passionate about this movie but he was upset over the lack of creative control. Spider-Man 3 was based on a treatment written by his brother Ivan Raimi which was about Peter learning that he is not a sinless vigilante and that there also can be humanity in people that he considers to be criminals which Sam Raimi decided to use Spider-Man 3 to explore. Sam didn't like Venom at first but he appreciated him based on how well he was written and the fact that he fit the theme of the story.
I feel that one of the major problems with the Sam Raimi films is the fact that Harry's butler could have prevented a lot of tension. Plus, wouldn't it make sense that Harry would see the holes in his father's body, which would help him realize the glider impelled him causing his death? It seems important, but they ignore, and that frustrates me. Harry wouldn't become a villain, he wouldn't get his face blown up, there wouldn't be much tension, and more.
Just want to make a comment on why they killed off Harry. The part they failed in with his character is that they had only one arc of story for him; getting revenge on Spider-Man. When that ended, he was left with these goblin abilities and nothing to do with them. He was also left with nothing to do in his own personal life. His entire life had been devoted to avenging his father. As such, there was nothing else they could've done with his character, so they had to kill him.
Rami never wanted Venom wanted in Spider-Man 3 but Sony and the writers forced Rami to put him in the movie because they all were like “we need to capitalize on the Venom character!” Rami also confirmed Sandman was suppose to be the main antagonist and Harry be the secondary villain but also be just as threatening.
