That's another thing we have to admire about him. That he never ran away from his mistakes. He always confronted them by facing the consumers directly. No spokepersons. He always talked directly to the consumers, he reduced his own salary 50%, and the other executives's salaries got a 30% cut. He was against lay off employees , he said that an employee won't be able to improve if he or she is always in fear about being lay off sooner or later. For him his employees were important, proof is how he went and helped the team in charge of Smash Bros. Melee with the bugs that otherwise would have ended in the game getting delayed. I saw how he got a lot of criticism about the Wii U, etc. And he took it all, accepting that indeed they made mistakes. That is being a humble person, and a honorable one at that. R.I.P. Satoru Iwata.

My parents did not have lots of money back then, we did not have enough money to go on vacation for 3 years straight. My dad and mom were afraid i'd get bored. I'm not gonna lie, for a 20 year old to start crying unexpectedly in front of his friends and family, this really hit me because Nintendo was my childhood and that man basically was one of the biggest reasons it was filled with joy and fun. A lot of you will hate on Nintendo regardless but do not disrespect this man, it's because of him the gaming industry was as good as it got back in the day, and I hope Nintendo tries their best to live up to his expectations. From my childhood, to the childhood of the millions that got to enjoy gaming before it was corrupted with greedy business practices, you will not be forgotten, and your legacy will live on for this generation and many to come.

Two Years. It's been almost two years since you've been gone, yet the gaming world goes on and on. Soldiering on through an endless fight, some games successes, the others not quite right. Yet one thing still remains tried and true, we never have forgotten you. The man who kept a company alive, cut his own paycheck to help them survive. Who had an idea for a new kind of machine, one with which you play along with a touchscreen. Brought forth an evolution in how we game, changing some rules, yet others staying the same. The memories you brought us, both good and bad, were some of the best times we'd ever had. and the day that god decided it was time for you to go, that was truly what we'd show through our tributes, gifts and utmost respect, for a man whom made a company once flawed so perfect. And although again you may be gone, your legacy will continue on and on In your heart you may have been a gamer, but to us you were a savior A Savior of childhood memories once lost, discarded and blown away, like fragments of dust. Yet one thing you'd never lost, in all of your years, was our trust as well as our tears, for a Man whom had helped preserve something we held so near, a company whose products helped fill our lives with cheer, So I write this poem to pay respect, to a man whom helped make my life that bit more perfect. Here's to you, Satoru Iwata, You may be gone no matter what we say, but I just wanted to get this out, A few weeks before the day, the day one of our idols went away. You left via a rainbow in the sky, and although we'd all sat down and cried, we truly knew why. It was the final course, the final match, the final trial, and it had been coming for quite a little while, We thank you for everything you've done, for the games you made were truly fun, And although your time here may be done, to us you are still, and shall remain number one. Thank you for everything, you wonderful man, you did everything that you knew you truly can. Rest easy knowing that we all truly care, even if the fact is that you're no longer there. Thank you, We do understand. RIP Satoru Iwata, 1959-2015.

Some people will sneer at the thought of a CEO of a videogame company not doing the job for money but they need to go google it. The man handed millions of dollars worth of bonuses back when he felt he didn't deliver to fans what they expected, he took a pay cut so that Nintendo employees didn't lose their jobs, he apologised for their E3 2015 showing in a tweet which was from a hospital bed and he worked for the fans until his last day on Earth. Here's a great quote from Genyo Takeda - "The seeds that Mr. Iwata planted would one day grow into flowers that will make people around the world smile.” That flower was Switch and it's just surpassed 130 million hardware sales and is now the third best selling console in history. It needs just 15 million more sales to be the best selling console of all time. Thank you for everything and your final gift Mr.Iwata. RIP.

Here I am in 2020, spending my last day as mayor in New Leaf and it's bittersweet. I know I'll be back some day, but for now I'm preparing to head off toward new horizons. So as a sit down at my town tree one last time, and see all the people who have come and gone over the last 7 years, I can't help but be thankful for all these beautiful memories. And while I know that the developers put their whole hearts of the game, they did it because they respected Mr. Iwata, and knew exactly what he expected. He wasn't unreasonable. He just expected one thing. Fun. And that's what we got. Every single time. I can never repay this man for all the fun he's given me through all these years, and all the hard times his games have gotten me through, or how he inspires me every day to do what I love as a priority and to never settle for anything less than what I want to do with my life. Thank you for so many years of beautiful memories, Mr. Iwata. You will be missed. In your heart you were a gamer, but in my heart you will always be my hero.

+OriginalBloodAce He did recieved proper praise but not as common as right now on mainstream media. He is not a martyr, he was just a guy that loved his job so much and did it so well that eventually draw praise from the people around him and paved the way for him to develop further into his job so he could prove himself worthy of higher responsibilities. He didn't do it for the praise, he didn't need it but he sure got many that were rightfully deserved. Praise is just a result, not the objective. He sure finished succesfully many of his objectives in life, and they sure were fullfilling for him. Praise and recognition are just the possible consequences.

Shuntaro Did not make the paid online membership it was long planned before he even became the CEO. Also Reggie was around during the switch development as well He was in interviews about it. including the online membership interviews. A lot of people are not thinking clearly nowadays or remembering stuff properly. The one thing that needs to stop is people using Iwata's death. Using his death and his quote isn't making the situation better it's just making the people using his death and his quote look like heartless disgusting people that don't even have an actual life whatsoever. This was the man who made such classics like Earthbound on the SNES, Balloon Trip on the NES, to helping create all the early Pokémon and Kirby games. Which eventually lead to him having a hand in all the major Nintendo franchises; such as Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing. He helped push the idea of the DS, and it was because of him we even got the Wii. When the Wii U was failing; instead of laying off others and cutting wages; Iwata cut from his own pay check, something that is rare to see from a boss let alone a CEO. From the NES and Game Boy, all the way to the Wii U and 3DS; Iwata has had a huge impact in gaming. He's been a part of my childhood, as well as the childhood of others; and for that I thank him for his hard work, and all the heart and soul he put into putting a smile on someone else's face. He knew that games aren't about the best graphics and having the most powerful consoles, but instead its about the memories that we make through games, and the fun that we have through them with friends and family that really matter. In the end its about the memories we can share, and Iwata gave us just that. Rest in peace Mr. Iwata, you'll be dearly missed. Thank you for everything you did.

2022 marks 7 Years since Mr Iwata's passing. His legecy in Video Games is only overshadowed by his humble personality. His loss is only felt greater with each passing year. "On my Business Card i am a Corporate President, in my Head i am a Computer Programmer, in my Heart i am a Gamer." "Games should be fun, fun for everyone." - Satoru Iwata -

It is not about the competition between the systems. This man was such a wonderful, creative and nice person. I hope Nintendo will put something on their next console to remember Iwata. Maybe some quote, or this cartoon figure of himself. Would be wonderful.

The Nintendo Switch had a minigame that could only be triggered doing the Iwata 'directly to you' symbol, although it's been removed already. Still something, though.

Iwata has, and always has been my inspiration, I remember when I finally got my first DS, After waiting so long for my mom to let me get one, I got it, and I was so happy, to hear of someone so great, creative, and smart pass is heartbreaking, He was my inspiration, and will always be, ever since I saw these games, I instantly knew what I wanted to do, Im sorry you left in a time when everyone was hating and dissapointed after e3. Rip iwata.

I'd like to think that Satoru was smiling knowing that he inspired millions to do what they love best. He was an optimist, and he'd never let even company losses get him or his character down. It's sad some people don't appreciate him enough.
@astriverofstrengthandknowledge
My first system was a Gameboy Advance. I remember my parents buying it from the gaming section of Toys-R-Us. I also got Sonic Advance 3 from there as well. When I went to a relatives house, I could not stop staring at the box art of the game and system. There was something about them that just amazed me. The next day, I woke up very early being ecstatic knowing that I'll finally play my first video game. Ever since then gaming's been one of my biggest hobbies. I thank Satoru Iwata for his marvelous legacy. May he rest in peace.

I remember when I first got the Wii. My family played Wii sports and other various titles. We had so much fun that we played it almost everyday. We would invite family over to join us as well. Soon, most of our family had a Wii. We thought it was revolutionary, just like its code name. I’ll never forget those moments and most importantly. I will never forget you Iwata.
