SBC Tunnel Ram for 8-71 Blower - Challenges and Mods is the recent video update for the 53 Studebaker to get port nozzles added to help get better fuel distribution and control EGTs for the back 4 cylinders. Also, plumbing the center exhaust water outlets in the Brodix Dragonslayer heads to the thermostat block. This video also shows me doing a barrel valve leakdown on my new enderle k barrel valve with enderle birdcatcher.

So getting this Alkydigger SBC tunnel ram to fit has been a challenge, but Mike has worked with me on every step of these challenges. Even with all the challenges I do believe this intake will work very well!!! I really need to get this Studebaker and my dad to the track very soon! Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!

Your awesome. I hear it all the time, "you can't put that on there", "you can't make that fit". For me that just makes it better. Almost all my parts are one offs. I'm building a 1000+ HP Chevy inline 6 292. Mains doweled and girdled, Crower billet crank, solid roller cam and rods, 5 stage dry sump, Electromotive TEC200s coil over ignition. Falconer V-12 head. It's one aluminum head for his Falconer aircraft racing engines. It flows 340I and 220E. 6-71 blower with 2 quick fuel 650 DP. NOS. Going in a 53 Chevy pickup with a stick. "You can't do any of that", Except I did. Sorry so long I got carried away. Thank you for showing how things go when you don't have a million dollar HASS machine sitting there and thank you for your time.

Great work Kevin, and love the respect for your Pop! I grew up as the SBC was introduced to the public, so I'm not as "new" as some of the experts. The water pump flows cool water into the front of the block. As it moves to the back cylds., it picks up more and more heat. It collects a lot more heat from each cyld. chamber and it has nowhere to go until it gets to the front of the heads. Simple physics tells us the back 4 cylds. run a lot hotter. If a more even heat distribution and therefore jetting is the goal, run an exterior hose from each high pressure side of the water pump, into the rear frost plugs on each side of the block. Then use those manifold holes you drilled into the rear, to run that hot water externally to the thermostat housing. Now you have cool water going in low, in front AND rear. I know, it's not what the experts say. All the best with the "stud", and God bless yer Dad.

Brian aka Whizzbang is one of the best people I've ever known and I met him on the internet. I haven't talked to him in several years. Tell him Craig Moss from Oklahoma said hello!

Been following you build, its pretty cool. Im kinda going through the same thing with my car, im also going to mechanical fuel injection from my dual carb set up. I have an 8-71 Pontiac engine 1974 GTO tube chassis car. currently it's running 7.90's at 173ish. i just bought a Rons Terminator set up.

Only problem is your thinking naturally aspirated instead of Blown..Yes, the pressure will go to the path of least resistance but then it will fill the rest way faster then before you will not starve any cylinder unless you are severely underdriving the blower

Great video, really enjoying your content. You may have mentioned it the video and I missed it, .068 is that the thickness of the gasket or the offset of the centers between the holes?

Kevin, any concerns about fuel pooling in base of intake?. Most blower manifolds I have seen have a tented floor, and I am modifying a LS low ram intake for a blower, and planning on epoxying in a tented floor to elevate the possibility of pooling.
@KevinWilsonSBC

That is a great question... I have not considered that at all... Got me thinking more about that one. Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!

Kevin, how much was taken off the deck of your block? That's probably why the intake sits so high. Have the heads been milled as well? It's closes up the "V" pretty quickly.
@KevinWilsonSBC
@KevinWilsonSBC 2 года назад
Block was decked .010” and heads milled .010” and the TBS intake fit with no issues along with other stock intake laying around the shop. Opening the holes and milling .068” done the trick!! Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!

One more thing, you NEED to run a setback plate with a delta discharge, its going to need a big stagger on the nozzles.
@billbirmingham
@billbirmingham 2 года назад
He and I spoke about that. He doesn't have clearance at the firewall to do it.
@raysertuche5565

How much did u mill off the intake the 1st time? I know the 2nd time was for gasket thickness. I was curious on how much and what determined the 1st milling
@KevinWilsonSBC
@KevinWilsonSBC 2 года назад
Sorry that part was a little confusing. Before we took anything off the intake I wanted to measure it with and without gaskets so after enlarging the bolt holes we only had a mill it once at .068”
@CarsandCats

I don't see a burst panel on the front of that intake. Are you going to add one?
@KevinWilsonSBC
@KevinWilsonSBC 2 года назад
Adding 1 on the passenger side of the intake... alkydigger put a "street pop-off" on the driver's side, but I need to add a burst panel also in my opinion. Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!

This is a new intake that Mike has worked to develop so I expect some challenges with it. If the big fits has been a while I am sure it is good. I am most interested to see how this tunnel ram performs at 23 lbs of boost. Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!
