I'm Korean. I wished to win a championship with Maru. But I am not sad. Oliveira showed ability and proved what he got through all his journey. I send big congrats to Oliveira.Sc2 is not a dead game!!!!
Olivera definitely got some luck there, but you can't win championships only from luck. To be fair Olivera may not be best but in this tournament he surely plays so well. Congrats to him.
ESL just missed the single most important moment of this grand final - the interview by ending the video prematurely. Truly heartfelt moment for all SC2 fans around the world, an unknown warrior from an unknown corner of the starcraft world taking the stage in spectacular fashion. Not forgetting that the SC2 server in China has been shut down 3 weeks ago, truly fascinating
I had doubts when oliveira takes Clem, Cure, Heromarine. I think just lucky punch but He beat Reynor, Hero, and... the Last boss Maru in a row with a great score My prediction was sooooooo wrong You deserve to gain Katowice Champion trophy! Oliveira! Congraturation!
For anyone who didn't see the broadcast, do yourself a favor and go listen to the full Oliveira interview... such an incredible story. Who's cutting onions in here??
It’s so hard. He had stories even more touching than that. He had difficulties in the past finding players and he used to pay $100 per game to play with Koreans. People were laughing at him.
This is the first time ever in SC2 history, when a player ranked bottom 3rd before game, without previous premier championship record, to have actually won a premier championship.
I am a Maru fan and wanted him to win the championship in order to legitimize him as a legend. However, there is nothing I can claim against Oliveira. There were no shortcuts or easy paths in his way to victory: He beat HeroMarine, Reynor, herO and Maru, showing impeccable decision making and technical control. That is the hardest gauntlet I can think off. There is no dispute to your abilities Oliveira. Truly deserved.
1:07:49 pay attention to the Mini Map here. While pushing into Maru's main base, Oliveira sent a Liberator up on top left natural to kill off Maru's SCVs, OB didn't know it, even Maru didn't find out until the fight in main was over. what a guy... Edit: actually there were two Liberators. One top left and one in bottom Center...so basically 2 thirds of Maru's production line... Thanks for pointing out in replies.
u r right, and actually there were 2 lib, top left and bottom center, Oliveira slaughter 2 base full of scv while Maru have to commit his full attention to breaking Olivera's siege line. This move basically win him the game.
This is the best games of Oliveira/TIME that I've ever seen, he really played out of everybody's mind, even including himself! Congrats on his first international trophy, fully deserved.
Time said that his grandma, who is over 80, watched him playing the games using an iPad, and cried when she saw her grandson won. Time said that he had never thought that his victory would impact someone who is so senior and probably doesn't understand what was going on in the games, yet it did. That made him feel that he truly did something worthy. Meanwhile his father didn't cry, but stayed calm instead, and told Time that he felt Time would win it all once Time beat Reynor. What a dad. LoL
When looking at the Player Card rating, not only did Oliveira beat the top 4 rated Players, he also beat all the highest ratings in every Category: Hero Offensive (100) Versatility (96), Maru Defense (98) Multitasking (97) Mechanics (97) and Reynor Speed (97). He truly deserves his 100 Card.
That was such an action-packed finals, what a dream of a series. So incredible! 2023 and SC2 is still as cool as ever. What a crowd, what a turnout for the finals, what an incredible underdog victory. I AM BLOWN AWAY
clem also in the group bracket, which is sad, because realisticly, clem dominated the last game very heavily, but oliviera used was patient and his raven use is top notch
this guys is the terran reynor, so cherring and emotional when he plays! he is human not a machine, I love the way he drive the crowd crazy and his fist up in the air after a win. the treat was when he beats Reynor, was hard to say but Reynor finally gave the GG WP lol ^^ and the interview after winning was history in stacraft 2 really loved this turnament, I mean u just won 150k u can cry my men, hard work but those emotion has to be something from another world, caster were so hyped, i was hyped at home. well deserve victory
The final day of the tournament was literally the only one I missed, I come home just as the final game is over and see the result... bro wtf, I didn't expect to narrowly miss probably one of the greatest esports moments of the decade
time was 0-6 and get home in 2022 and he retired but one day、he dont want any regret for dream , he create new id , this last dance ,without coach, without friend ,cancellation weibo(like facebook) he practice sc2 for 12 to 15 hour aday maybe 14pm to 4am or 6am、just for katowice time difference , fight for 1 year!! every day ! practice and practice and practice just a 'normal people' for dream to do everythins he can do hero always lonely
What a tournament, and what a story! After rewatching these games, it's clear Oli's skill is real and not a fluke. His passion and determination really showed in how he played!
This means too much fot the China starcraft espically in this diffecult period of time, blizzard services in China were suspended, due to the copyright we are not even allowed to stream the match domesticly. To be honest, NOONE had ever expected Oliveira or time what ever you want to call him can win the championship. Lots of Chinese player had actually cried when he gave that speech after the final match. Thank you Time, we are so proud of you!!!
Correction: the streaming right was bought by Huya, which is the main competitor of Douyu where most Chinese casters (including the most well-known one, SCBoys) cast. Huya refused to resell it to SCBoys, and kept it to itself without livestreaming.
BTW, even after this tournament, I will say Maru is still the best terran player in the world. He has being the most stable top terran player in the starcraft history, on the other hand, Time is not good at against zerg. Losing 0:2 to RagnaroK, and just barely wined Reynor with a 3:2. If he fight against Dark in the semi-final he might had just stopped there. Maru would have a perfect career if he had won this game. Even I am super happy for Time, but yes, also feels sorry for Maru
The most incredible run and the biggest upset ever. He not only beat MARU in a TVT 4-1, He finished it off with a close back and forth macro game. What a series, what a player.
Yeah it was a great tournament, like what.. he ended up beating the best zerg, protos AND terran player in straight up matches.. no cheese or shortcuts, really impressive i wonder if he will be able to win more tournaments like this or if it was a rare situation of a bunch of stuff coming together for him boosting him above his average performance.
This is the TIME for Oliveira! This is also a historical day for every fan and player who knows the story behind and the history of Chinese StarCraft professional gaming. We have waited for a championship for more than 20 years. After witnessing TIME’s 0:6 in Atlanta, I cannot imagine how he practiced 12-15h per day using Portland’s time everyday and now nirvana and rebirth. Maybe like he said, it’s the love of this game and the heart of victory. At the time the Chinese blizzard battlenet sever just shutter down, what an inspiring championship!
Ok my Chinese friend... can You explain me why among 1,5 billion Chinese people there is only one Starcraft 2 player in top SC 2 Players? :) Just don't sanswer me: "One is Enough like you see" :D TIME is always in our hearts :) It was.. GG and i count for more :) Regards.
@@Neutral_Creep SC2 is not really that popular in China. Young ppl love LOL and dota better. Also FYI Blizzard just stopped every single game in China, because some shitty contract they want their server provider to sign. Technically Chinese ppl can't really play SC2 at the moment. So irony
@@Neutral_Creep I don’t get your intentions to ask that question. Sry

Dear Artosis and Tasteless, thank you for bringing me the joy of commented StarCraft for the past ten years. I cherish you very much and I am very grateful you are still doing it!
Oliveira has an insane killer instinct. His timing for attacking and counter attacking is so decisive and he got so much done with it during this tourney. Congrats
I'm Reynor's fan but love the game he came back down from 0-2 against Reynor. He showed his great ability to stabilize the game through Reynor countless attacks. It is little chance to win Reynor when their economic is behind but Oliveira did in game 4. Maru is also a GOAT player. Not many people could beat him when he is in good performance. Congratulations to you, Oliveira.
A genuine dark horse, underdog story. It's so unbelievable. This is one of the greatest sporting moments of all time and yet the tragedy is that only a small sliver of the world's population could even understand or appreciate it 😢
I have been rooting for Maru for some time now. I regard his game as something special in SC2. Pure talent in so many aspects of the game. But seeing how Oliveira played his matches in Katowice, I must admit that he is the truly deserved champion of this event. Absolutely unbelievable run against the top players in the world, against all races, against all odds, with not much previous experience on such a big stage. Trailing against Reynor and Maru, yet coming back and winning against both - mind-boggling! And at the end his interview was such a lesson to us all in humility and perseverance.. Everyone was crying :) I dont see why people would go watch Super Bowl when they could watch this instead :))
Insane. Oliveira, the one nobody expected, went on to beat the 3 best players in each race, herO, Reynor and freaking Maru, and with a freaking 4 to 1 win. Absolutely well deserved, this guy did the impossible.
I've seen some great runs in esports, but this is probably the best I've seen. Amazing underdog story. Happy for Time/Oli, he gained a lot of fans today. The superbowl was good, but this story shitted on that today 😄
Wow! What a spectacular run by Oliveira! In the playoffs he had to beat Reynor, who is a huge young talent and has always been in form and was the top of their group. Reynor was also the champion of this tournament in 2021. And then to come back from an 0-2 deficit where the second game just came down to 1 baneling... Holy damn! Then he had to beat arguably the greatest Protoss of all time in herO, who also has the longevity which many neglect, o and also topped his group. her0 was also a 2022 GSL Champion. And lastly he had to face who many regard as not only the greatest Terran but overall player in sc2 with the longevity to boot and also topped his group, Maru. Falling one game down getting pressured in game 2, he miraculously came back and won 4 games in a row, beating all these former champions in succession. Oliveria is officially a feller of titans. One of the most emotional and greatest success stories not only in starcraft 2 history, but in esports tournament history.
30:34 this looks like in those Hollywood-action-movies when the gangster-boss is realizing that the good guys tricked him and he took a loss, thinking 'Damn, those guys are good....'
Oliveira broke his limits several times during this tournament. When he made the comeback win from Reynor, I felt like his eager to win is unmatched to the others. So amazing. I hope more Chinese people join SC2. I am Korean btw.
Even though I wanted hero to win originally, this is an amazing story and upset. I teared up when he won and went to the floor. He deserves this so much.
Maru mentioned this when he was aiming for G5L last season. He gets in his head. You can obviously see how stressed he is, and as Artosis mentioned " He's thinking of things besides the game". He was feeling the pressure of being beaten by an underdog and have the world championship slip through his fingers. Oliveira had nothing to loose and was clearly more relaxed.
even for him fan, we can"t beleive he can do that, because the IEM will be time last match, He has promised his father to go back to his father's company and prepare to inherit the company. No one can expect this championship
Incredible performance from time, everything he was doing was working, throughout the tournament he wasn't afraid to make the game winning play, always goes for the kill when ahead, and claws his way back when behind. Amazing
I've never seen anything like this. I'm unfamiliar with this game, But I'm here because someone was telling me about this. I had heard of esports before like this but had never seen it in action. It's kind of weird and cool because it's like I'm watching a football game or something. The way the announcers are getting into it and the crowd are getting into it. Man this is a whole thing. As a casual gamer this is neat to see.
The victory of Oliveira was the best thing that could happen! Hopefully now, a lot of chinese players will be inspired by him and there is a chance that the game will be popular again in china. If this happen… sc2 will be great again!!!!!! Congrats oliveira!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@Sanguinarius9999 Dude come on, they both trained so hard to stand in the tour and they tried there best to take the champ, show some respect at least don't say something like this, if you have proof show it to IEM, also this is very disrespect to Maru , heromarine and raynor too.
I was looking at the quarterfinals before they happened and I thought about the possibility of Oliveira winning. The idea that ANYONE could beat Reynor, Hero & Maru all in a row just sounded impossible. And it still does. There was some kind of magic in the air and Time was just seeing it. All of his moves were the right ones. Congratulations and hopefully he can play lots of offline tourney as that seems to make a big difference for him.
Last match that gave me so much emotion was Classic vs Rogue at the WCS Global Finals 2019. This one was way more one-sided though. Never seen Maru lose like this against underdog. Oliveira is a great player, hope to see him on top later
@@deepseer he family is rich,What has carried him so far is his dream,in china we all know he will retire.Because the Chinese servers have been shut down this year.
:) This FInal deserved to be called "The Grand Final" :) Congratulations for both players... Whoever won with Maru deserved to be called "World Champion" :)
That late game TvT from Time is just beautiful. Love it. Exactly the way I always imagine it should be played, but very few have the skill to do it! :D
