America wasn't expensive until we elected a Democrat in office. We have 47 year high inflation, fuel cost double what it did under Trump, and it's the energy policies of the Democrats that are driving inflation. We are also spending trillions of dollars that we don't have, printing more money to pay for Democrats pet infrastructure projects while we fund proxy wars in Ukraine & Israel, while Americans suffer.

If you go to the state of Maine and go down to the Lobster docks, you can get lobster right off of the lobster boats and they will steam them right there for you and give you melted butter and fresh lemon for a few dollars. Once many years ago we got 5 lb lobsters for $20. Right now in the state of Maine Lobster is approximately $13 a pound, so what you just paid there at that restaurant you could have got ten 1 lb lobsters. 10 POUNDS OF LOBSTER!

Lobsters have gotten inpossibly princely in recent years, with limited supplies due to COVID and supply shortages due to overfishing. If coming to MA, they are relatively cheaper at traditional fish shacks where they retrieve them fresh from the day boat (fished the same day) and fresh boiled just up the coast in Rockport and Gloucester.

Red Hook is more towards the Russian populated Brighton beach near Coney Island. Basically Red Hook was for the working class who worked factory jobs in Manhattan which there were many. Modern Red Hook is kinda trendy as it’s getting up there but it’s more known as a stopover to Brighton or Coney Island and people live there. It’s kinda like the Milk District in Orlando as it’s starting to get a little trendy but still needs some rebuilding to get there. Just the area is close to a lot of great stuff but hasn’t fully developed an identity yet.

Restaurant ambiance is over-rated unless it's a hot date, anniversary, family celebration, or important clients. I do that maybe 5% of our gourmet meals. I make my own lobster rolls with fresh meat (live killed or just 5 hours flown from Maine) and soft homemade bread for $18-20 each and I use Irish butter (higher butterfat, more salt) to melt over them. For all you Maine-only snobs, lobster flown in from Maine in 4-5 hours each day is way better than 1-4 day old lobster those Maine seafood places hang onto in their fridges. These are modern times. Fresh seafood is available up and down the East Coast in mere hours. The air export market gets the best stuff compared to the local, frugal shops.

@Shaun *That is NOT "an American thing" to pay over $100 for a meal - that is distinctly a New York thing. I would never pay that for a simple lobster meal! I'm in Virginia and I have been all over (America, Europe and the Caribbean) and what you just paid was the cost-of-living in New York. I can go to any local seafood shop (including Red Lobster chain) and pay up to $50 for a lobster dinner with all the trimmings. Red Hook is a cool place to hang-out but if you don't work in the NYC area (including all 5 burrows) then it's going to hurt your wallet to dine out there. I grew-up in South Jersey near the shore and I love seafood and I know where it's cheap and where it's not, but what gets you in NYC is their cost-of-living there. Go to Cape May, NJ or Eastern Shore of Maryland or the Outer Banks of NC and you'll pay a LOT less for great seafood. Just wanted to clear that up a little.

Since 2021 poultry, fruits and veggies, bread and soups are all up around 25%. Heating oil is up 78% and that aforementioned gas, 57%. Worst part the value of our take home wages are in the toilet. Those who were money aware in the 1970's are saying that was nothing compared to this. Many people are having to work two and three jobs and still can barely make their nut. No Shaun. $110 plus tip for that is a massive rip off. Welcome to NYC. Dang. Inflation off the chain. Many more killer destinations in USA though

That is not average price for dinner out for two in America. That’s sounds very expensive for what you got. That didn’t look like a very nice restaurant

Just how is New York seafood compared to Southern seafood ? There is a difference from the four corners of the states not including Hawaii and Alaska ! 😂❤

Is that like two pounds of whipped cream on top of that key lime pie? Oh man, I hate whipped cream on my key lime pie. They ruined it.

Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts Lobster Rolls. NYC would be better for oysters, quahog, scallops, crawfish. Manhattan clam chowder has tomatoes, New England clam chowder has cream.

America isn't that expensive. Inflation still lingers in more rural places, but it's a bunch less expensive than the cities. Say, you go to Watkins Glen, or Gettysburg, it'll be less expensive for citizens to live there than going to NYC, or Miami, or LA. I'm talking from food, to rent, to gas, taxes, everything.

Over $100 for two people? Ouch!! I won’t go anywhere if it cost more than about $30-35. But then again, I won’t eat lobster, either. NYC is super expensive, I don’t know how people survive there.

My dude if you think the average American meal for 2 is 110$ you need to stop going to the most expensive options you have, nobody I know is even spending close to that amount I’ve never even spent more than 20$ on a meal lmao

Food is cheap in many areas in the United States you just keep going to expensive cities where everything is twice the price and more. I get Lobster all the time for cheap prices because I'm not in a big city paying big city prices. You can get lobster right off the docks where they catch them for dirt cheap they'll even cook them for you right there in a steamer and give you butter and lemon.

Meh, having a good lobster roll in Brooklyn is like having good Texas BBQ in Miami. Yeah, it's tasty but it's just not the same as the real deal in New England or Texas. Period.

@@shaunvlog She's referring to your comment about how expensive things are.. NY is FAR more expensive than 98% of U.S. cities. You said America is so expensive now.. Yes Biden-flation has hit, but it's obviously far worse if you keep going to cities like NYC that were already more expensive than almost anywhere else.. Stop going to expensive cities and then saying "America is expensive". You should know by now NY, LA, Miami, etc are expensive

Nothing is fresh in America anymore. Too many big cats squeezing dimes hence too many regulations. Everything is farm raised and it's not the same.🙁

heretical. steamed, boiled, hot with butter on a top-split hot dog roll, or, if absolutely necessary, cold w mayo. all those other concoctions are as much of a waste as a caviar pop-tart. CT and New England is just up the road or across the sound so lobster isn't too far of a stretch but if it's not from Maine, it won't be Maine Lobster but it might still be the same species of North American Lobster, but to call it "New England" it could be anything [similar to Champagne v sparkling wine]. $50 - $60 per person is not normal, but NYC inflation is like no other. yes, Key Limes are yellow, not green.
