How much copper is inside a hoverboard? Join me as I do a complete tear-down to find out. Once everything is scrapped out, I melt the copper, purify it and pour a nice ingot from it. I have a whole pallet full of electronics and appliances that I want out of my warehouse. I'm setting aside all the copper I get from each item in a separate stack so we can see how much copper I had sitting there worth of junk.

A little bit of effort sure pays off. Just rip apart over $100 in hub motors, to get around 6 bucks in copper.

@artaxerxes2363 its a scrapping channel, not a resell on ebay channel. Get over it. Ffs the title of the video says “how much copper is inside” Without scrapping it, the question in the title wouldn’t have an accurate answer. Use your heads instead of jumping to conclusions 😉

Ya know, this is really cool. I just lost my dad a few days ago and I have inherited his…piles…of old stuff. Old old motors, tools, burnt out drills, etc. I have a lot to go through, but this video popped up and gave me an idea…

Brother, I’m really sorry about your father passing away. On a more happier note, I’m glad you stumbled across a method for going through his collection. After my grandfather passed, I went through the house after everyone else did and took the old door locks that were original to the house that he had in a cardboard box stuffed in the rafters. My intention was to scrap all the brass from the locks, melt it and pour myself a bar. After cleaning the bar I was going to stamp the bar as “Grandpas Brass” and stick it in my curio cabinet as a memorial for him. I still haven’t gotten around to it, but I will soon enough. Thank you for watching my video and again I am very sorry about the passing of your father. 🙏

They were definitely a treasure trove of scrap metal! I thought they were mostly plastic, and I had no idea those wheels were the electric motors until I started busting them apart. They were easy to unwind too! I think I spent maybe 15 minutes total unwinding those 4 motors. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!

4 X 2 wheels at easily $25 each, or take the time to rip them down for 6 bucks in copper a piece. Okay then.

Hell yeah! They aren’t “that bad” to take apart. You can even remove the magnets from inside the wheel housings with a small cold chisel and turn that irony aluminum into clean aluminum. The weight adds up nicely!

The sub woofer, was my favorite so far. 3 years working in a scrap yard. And never tore one apart. But did you take the copper out if the speaker. I'm waiting on those roll around acts. I consider them a pain. Will you cut open the compressors for the copper. And strip the copper tubing out of the radiator's. Patiently waiting: Chuck
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Год назад
Wow, I'm jealous that you worked in a scrapyard. I always wanted to own and operate one! I actually did not extract the copper from the woofer. From my experience they have always been pretty "light" on the copper. Plus it wasn't a decent brand of woofer in my opinion anyways. I do however have a larger powered subwoofer that I do plan on scrapping completley out, including the speaker. A Polk Audio. As far as the AC's are concerned, I am definitely going to extract as much copper as I physically can out of them. The Rads are definitely a pain in the butt to get the copper out of, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve. Thanks for commenting, your positive feedback and being a supporter of the series and channel :)

If you poured a little wax in the mold prior to the copper it wouldn't have those pockets in the bottom
@Scrap2Cast

@@Scrap2Cast also any kind of carbon soot in the mold prior to the pour works well too. Like an oxy acetalyn soot from a torch without turning on the oxygen. That kind of soot works best.
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Год назад
I also heard that if I coat the mold with graphite it helps release the bars easier. I wonder if it would also solve the problem with the pockets / holes 🤔
@Zamn-NW

Not worth to scrap, those motors sell for more on eBay than the material is worth.
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Год назад
True but then I wouldn’t be able to melt the copper 😉
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast 5 месяцев назад
If they even worked that is... unfortunately we'll never know. The steel from the motors is probably in China somewhere and the copper was remade into something else :)

Have you priced out the different between aluminum cast, extruded, sheet and your pours? Curious which one has the highest value
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Год назад
I’ll be honest, I haven’t. The scrapyard that I go to get rid of the junk I don’t want never gives receipts. They just hand you cash. I usually ask the going rates when I’m there but I haven’t been there in about 4 months. The only reason I go there is because they take everything and there is no paper trail which is a must for me personally
@todamnbad
@todamnbad Год назад
@@Scrap2Cast I have never recycled hand pours but I know grades of metals have different prices, was hoping that doing all of the work of a handpour would increase value to help justify the fun
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Год назад
@@todamnbad i definitely feel that no matter the grade, if you remove the impurities, it’s getting the metal closer to pure in my opinion. Especially with aluminum and copper. Brass is a different ballgame as it is an alloy of copper and zinc.
