The problem with pinned blades is that they are very difficult to use with any type of fretwork. If you are just cutting a shape, then fine, but most scrollsawers will be doing fretwork needing to insert the blade in a 1/16 inch or smaller pre-drilled hole. The machine you tested is a Chinese built model sold under many different brand names, including Wen, Ryobi, Porter-Cable, Craftsman, Shop Fox and of course Harbor Freight. I bought one of these and sent it back when I realized how limiting the design is. Enjoy your videos, Steve and Bob.

Hi Jeffery. Thanks for the comment. I personally find It is quite adequate for the work I want it for which is Double bevel marquetry using 2/0 blades and a #70 drill. I do as mentioned, have a Hegner and a very large Hafco with a 30": throat for bigger stuff. Cheers Steve

Can highly recommend them, I use my quite a lot and it works well. Sometime a little bit awkward fitting pinless blades but easier when you get the hang of them. Cheers Steve

I just looked up the price here in US. $299.00 plus $75.00 shipping. So unless you send it back to them, aren't you getting paid to show their saw? You said reasonably priced. The Wen model very similar was priced at $160.00. This was the most expensive. Enjoy your saw. I really like your videos when your not doing reviews! I'm trying to learn you art of woodworking, not what free tools look like and do. Just my opinion, hope I did not upset you! Keep the good ones coming!

Hi Kevin, thanks for your feedback I looked up the price here and it was $199.00. I have a Hagner which is priced at over $2000.00 and the cost of a Excalibur is over $1000.00 so I really think $199.00 is reasonably priced. In relation to getting paid would you do a days work and consider the cup of coffee given to you at lunchtime was payment of the days work? I like helping out others as much as I can and do not, nor will I ever do reviews of items or products in which I do not believe or would not have in my workshop. The idea behind it is that if someone visits my workshop they will see what I have and the products I use. I have refused over time many profitable opportunities because I would not in all honesty put my name nor reputation on the line for mere money or cash for comment. Cheers Steve

Noobie here. Which is better when there are dozens of piercings where you have to keep moving from hole to hole to cut out the pattern .. Pinned or Pinless blades?
@joshw6315
@joshw6315 5 лет назад
I have this saw and I bought a bunch of pinless blades but on this model they are very difficult to put on and off, especially if you want to do it quickly. I would therefore recommend pinned blades if you can drill a whole in ur work big enough for the pinned blades
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 5 лет назад
Hi Clyde, Pinless as they are smaller and can fir through holes easier than Pinned. The blades I use (#70) require a 0.028" hole. Pinned blades would not even get close to going through that. Cheers Steve
@clydedecker765

@@Woodworkingmasterclass My problem is having to reset that end into the connector with a tool each time ... seems way to complicated to connect the pinless type. Seems like a camlock device would work better.
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 5 лет назад
@@clydedecker765 From my experience the cam lock is only for applying tension to the blade not holding it. So you still have to set it each time. A pain I know. Either that or look for designs that can give access to many cut with only one entrance point such as in a Patera. Cheers Steve

Great thing about these Richard it you can use them on the Kitchen table, Low Noise and no vibrations. Just use the dust extractor and "No One" will know you have been there. I won't tell either. lol Cheers Steve

Darn, I was expecting a static shock during the unboxing :( Maybe it's just my electric personality, but whenever I unbox computer cases (or even new computers) which come with just as much polystyrene foam, I inevitably get a little zap from touching the metal case :(
