Yeah it's crazy out there. I have been a security guard for 10 years and companies just want guards to stand around and make it look like the place is protected then they bitch and moan when something goes down because they don't want you to carry a gun because that costs them more to hire you, so you have no choice. Also you see these cops in any of the recent riots? They got vests, guns, tasers, and helmets and when 15 people show up they run too!!! What do you think a guard will do with a flashlight? They pay 9.00 an hour and complain when shit gets real. I'm not dying for $9. Find a company that has in house security if possible. They pay around 15.00 and you get better benefits.
i am a security guard and when anything happens they usually blame the guard or try to. sometimes if you do one way they say its wrong , and if u do the other way they say its wrong too. i remember once i fiollowed the rules we had but then they told me i should not follow it. another time i stayed at work because there was a burglary going on and they did not pay me the overtime sayng i had nothing to do there and should have left because my shift was over. pathetic. its always easier blame the guard than anyone else because they are hired by another company and can be easily thrown out of the contract if they want. btw its always funny hear a guy say the N word when he is a black when we know all the shit that happens when its a white boy that say this haha
I've been an Armed guard for 10 yrs+ till recently & for some reason these are the kind of guards who that seem to be able to keep their jobs, make careers & in some cases move up in in the industry. Those of us who do thier jobs with integrity & have backgrounds in combat or law enforcement always seem to he among the ones put under a microscope & harassed for minor infractions such as being 2mins late or eating lunch in an area management doesn't want u eating in. Stupid things like that. Yet those are the ones that would have carried out their duties w/courage & intensity in a situation like this one. But unfortunately they are the ones who are usually driven to leave their job like myself or even are fired because guards like this are the majority & I'm guessing realize that guards who are passionate about their performance threaten their jobs. I have been a guard at nuclear facilities & presidential libraries so don't think this is the case at just malls or walmarts, it goes on at high profile target facilities as well. That has been my experience over the last 10yrs & this is the majority of people guarding the places you think are secure. This will only change when the standards for becoming a guard, especially armed, change drastically. Semper Fidelis
Poverty? I worked as a armed guard in the 90s for $6.25. Worked well over 80 hours a week and take home like $550. The problem with contract security is you work for 2 ( post and guard co.). Got to pleases both for 1 pay. I had a like a 20 year old "LT" supvsr. Come out and was asking dumb questions about my post, like what is rule no. 7, I said rule no.7 is if you want to f##k with me I'm going home and you watch this place. They also would dock your pay if shoes not shine or haircut not military style. Best kind of guard work is construction. Long hours and dirt everywhere. Did it for years. No politics.

vserrano1710 I started off with this company too. I worked unarmed and armed posts. Been punched, kicked, spit on etc. They never once cared. I even got written up once when I left blood in the sink after getting my face cut open on a car door. Swear to god. They said I should have notified housekeeping lol. A nurse got hit and the hospital pressed charges against the patient, but when it was us getting assaulted, they didn't care. I also called the labor board on them for their " weighted average " BS that they used to do, and they had to stop. I quit in 2009 and went federal
The company is a joke here in California. 1st time I went to interview with them I filled paperwork out for 2 hours. Once I finished I get told the position Im going for they cant hire me for it. So why waste 2 hours of my time if I cant get the position. I tried them a 2nd time a few years later. Told them the pay Im expecting due to experience and told them this plus wrote it down many times. I told them whate caliber hand gun I own as well. I wasnt getting a good vibe from the office but did the paperwork anyway. Glad I didnt listen to them and put my 2 week notice in. On the 1st day. Filled more paperwork out watching the videos. A supervisor that is in charge of armed accounts tells me to come to his office to get more information. He tells me my gun is way to powerful and they cant go anove a 9mm. They should of told me this instead of wasting 2 weeks of my time. On top of tgat max pay is 13.90 armed. So I walked out and will never waste my time with that crap company ever again. They sre unprofessional and do not communicate with one another. The freaking office is smsll as hell. Even if it was big thsts wjst phones are for. Dont waste peoples time in hopes they will take something they dont want.
I worked for Securitas in California... That's the one company I've ever worked for where being ineligible for rehire is a blessing, because I would much rather sell my children into slavery than work for them again... I wouldn't go back to work for them if Hell froze over...
yup as an unarmed security guard you have to pick your fights smart. It's not worth it but at the same time if someone's in physical danger you have to do something, can't just stand there watching someone get beat. Me for example, I'm an unarmed guard but I have my gun in my car and if someone's life depended on me to save them I wouldn't hesitate to grab my piece and start blastin.

I just left SECURITAS yesterday. One officer came to work with a MEGA staph infection on his hand for a week. My supervisor informed out 3rd shift and showed the picture of the officers hand. HUGE HUGE HUGE pustule. Contaminated the command center. I voiced my concern to my account rep and she basically said if I was not comfortable, I could resign. I called the regional manager and he had no other substantive response. I then called the confidential 24/7 hotline as outlined in the ?training? course --- THAT WAS A MISTAKE! I also called the Securitas Employee Assistance line, and the woman said that their 3rd party company is not contracted by Securitas anymore, she told me she hears my situation soooo many times and recommended that I call OSHA. There is nothing supporting your health and safety at SECURITAS. They are only about billing. THIS IS A HORRIBLE ORGANIZATION.
I have worked for many different companies and securitas was the worst. The managers care about keeping the accounts and pleasing the clients more than they care about employees. They will throw you under the bus or let you go just to keep a contract. Work for a smaller company
I guess I got fortunate working at a clothing store 4 days a week 15 hour shifts 40 hours at $14.00 an hour and 20 hours at $21.00 just to sit in a clothing store.

We do Tests on a laptop. Take the same ones year after year. I call them CYA’s. The company lawyers use these online training tests to cover the companies ass. No more less.

Because securitas does suck The person that set up my interview told me 7 something in the morning just gave me the address didn't tell me where to go what floor anything when I finally found where the office was the door was locked lights are off and they where 40 minutes late to the interview. They told me rotating weekends which was a lie. I was constantly coming in on my days off and I just started to when I mentioned it to somebody I started getting one day off a week for almost a month straight. I was working 9 hour days pretty much 8 to 9 days straight with one day off a week in between. Yeah fuck securitas. Instead of firing somebody they took them off the schedule never put them back on when that person went to file for unemployment they couldn't because they told him that they were fired but was never told that they where. We've had so many people over a whole entire year just up and quit.

DVJFan yes security jobs are a joke, but there are some companies out there that treat their employees right, and train them properly. Securitas definitely isn't one of them
