See How Easily TTB Can FLEX

In today's video I get the front shocks fabricated for my Twin Traction Beam (TTB) offroad 4x4 project. This allows me to see how much suspension travel I can get out of this four wheel drive Twin I-beam suspension. Although the big engine and big axles made this more difficult than it needed to be, I am happy with how much TTB can flex with only lift springs and lift shocks installed.
Now get out there and build something!

To be clear, the “easy” part is that it only took a few components to make this thing flex (springs, shocks, radius arms). The difficult part was that I had a big 3/4 ton axle and a cummins in the way of installing anything 😅. Most TTB front ends will have a much easier time of it than this one.

Have you ever heard of TTB being “cut and turned”. Thanks. Awesome videos.

I have to give it to you "bud" your pretty sharp, pretty damn sharp. Today was the first time I have watched one of your videos and ended up watching 3. Having your intelligence sure would have made my life easier and my projects get done faster but what the hell, everyone thought I was a god damn genius back then and i wasn't about to correct them. I'm digging it! I'm really looking forward to how your radius arm setup is going to pan out.

I personally like ttb as well and I have a couple D44's, D50's, and a cute lil D28. Was planning on body swapping a first gen ranger/bronco2 4 door Frankenstein build onto one of them and that's how I found this channel. Really cool build this has become one of the projects I check up on weekly.

I love ttb it can be complex at times and is often misunderstood. I do love it though and man can i gain some real flex by adding a few simple parts

In the process of building adjustable radius arms for my bricknose F250 plow truck I bought this winter. I’m using the same Rough Country shocks but with triple convoluted air bags and MetalCloak rod ends. I’ll most likely set it up with an air valve that automatically adjusts for load when I mount the plow. I’m pretty sure it will ride much better than the clapped out de arched leaf springs and 4” bags it’s currently sporting. Great to see how yours is turning out. Oh yeah I also have the Tough Country drop brackets for adjusting camber.

I have a 1995 Exploder that I'm thinking about putting a V8 in and it's all your fault. I'm ready to see how your front end does on the road. It should do extremely well off road. I'm enjoying the videos and think you're doing a hell of a good job.

Good luck with your channel, got a couple good chuckles. I like that you build like a diy guy in his house with limited budget. It annoying when people buy $10,000 worth of parts and brag how great their stuff is.

AGREED! The motto of the channel will always be building it yourself, no slapping together $100k worth of bolt ons here. 👍

I think theres hope for my little rally explorer's front end after seeing how far you're taking this. Also interested in that test drive in the next video!

Another tip, check your clearance in the windows for the axles at full bump one side, full droop the other. You may find you need to clearance the U-joint yolks (NOT THE EARS but the valleys) along with the windows so you don't just twist your axles off. Cool build, I am doing some custom TTB stuff too.

Good tip! I checked this at one point, but its been a while I should definitely double check it.

Thank you for the concern. We were lucky and locked in a longer fixed rate lease right before rent prices looked like they may skyrocket so hopefully we’re in good shape for a while at least!

Here’s one for ya, take that sharpie off your 123 block, hold your tube down to the table and run the edge of the 123 block along each side of each end of the tube. You’ll get 2 perfect center lines on both sides of your piece
@BuildSomethingAuto
@BuildSomethingAuto Год назад
That's a good suggestion! However it does assume the tables flat 😅. It's hard to see but I built that table out of offcuts of upside down diamond plate and some sheet metal welded on top (just spare stuff I had around) so I don't trust it not to have some bow in it. If I had a decent weld table your suggestion would definitely be the way to go.

How wide is the dana 50 ttb rotor to rotor? Im looking to do a similar swap into a comanche pickup.
@BuildSomethingAuto
@BuildSomethingAuto Год назад
to the brake backing plates is about 60". Here's a post I made on a forum that has all the measurements I took before doing the swap (dana 35, 44, and 50). www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/cummins-first-gen-build-thread-no-really.490429/post-3863168

I want to get axles like that on my tacoma. Are those crazy things street legal?😮
@BuildSomethingAuto
@BuildSomethingAuto 8 месяцев назад
Yeah totally. Most fords from the 80s and 90s came with these. TTB improves ride quality a lot while still being a lot stronger than IFS. The front axle is a dana 50 from an F250 (rear is a traditional solid axle dana 70 from a ram 2500).

Has anyone have any experience or heard of “cut & turned” pertaining to TTB?

Theres a chance therell be a video on that in the future 😅. As much as Im hoping it wont be needed…. It’ll probably be needed.

Did two of them(my Explorer and a friends Bronco). If you're really going to use a Ford TTB off-road, personally I think it's the only way to go. I haven't seen a single bracket lift hold up to hard use. The longer the drop bracket, the quicker they fail. In comparison the factory pivots can handle tons of abuse.

Are you keeping the spring and shock, or going coilovers?
@BuildSomethingAuto
@BuildSomethingAuto Год назад
Coilovers are a little too spendy, for now ill stick with spring and shock. However the rear will like get a 2.0 bypass shock or similar, maybe one day ill do the same in the front.

But what about that camber on the front?
@BuildSomethingAuto
@BuildSomethingAuto Год назад
Theres a few ways to fix it, ranging from oversized camber bushings to the more extreme "cut n turn". I needed to get everything setup first so i knew how much of a change is needed. Theres pros and theres cons, TTB certainly makes you do a little more work to get it right.
