Great comparison video bud! I own the mm200 and am looking to buy a Sumo to coexist or kick out the mm200. This helped a lot!

Thanks for this review! I have a blumo and have been contemplating picking up a MM200 and this video helped with that decision. I think I will save my money for a different watch, the Sumo really is almost perfect for the price.

Hey B R yes they are very close in quality really only 2 differences the crystal and clasp scissor (clasps them selves are the same) Blumo's major advantage is the blue dial!! It's a great watch. Thanks for the comment. Please considering subscribing if you haven't and hitting the like button. It's much appreciated and very helpful. Thanks again!!!

Been waiting for this review and awesome comparison Chris. Both are awesome watches but I still say for dollar spent the Sumo is the winner . Thanks for the shoutout brother 😀👍🏻

Hey Joseph these are both really great watches I see why you love the Blumo I'm really loving mine. I got my eye on the hulk sumo... Is that what it's called?

WatchChris yes lol 😂 it’s the Hulk Sumo for sure . I want a Pepsi Sumo. I know I’m very biased towards the Sumo but what you’re getting for price paid to me just makes sense. The 2019 Sumo actually does have a sapphire crystal but they are running about $800-$850 . I’m happy with my Blumo even with it having a hardlex crystal. Yeah they can scratch but you really have to beat it hard to damage or scratch . Thanks again for the mention and awesome video. I’m on vacation this week and was patiently waiting for this comparison video and you didn’t disappoint. I would just ad one more thought and that’s to keep both Chris . Yes both very similar but at same time different enough to were they aren’t competing against each other 👍🏻

Chris just recently tried on the new SPB097 which is the same watch as your 061 but with black and red bezel and Twilight blue dial . I gotta be honest I still love my Sumo and still think it’s one of Seiko’s best but your 061 and the new SPB097 are amazing watches and the quality and fit , finish blew me away. I hope you kept both your 061 and Blumo. Both extraordinary watches. I’m actually craving and wanting the new SPB097.

Yes I saw that release it's a good looking watch but I agree I like the Blumo color combo better than the Pepsi/coke color but they are really nice watches

@@WatchChris I like them both and so want to buy the baby mm but I have just about all the Seiko divers I can justify already. 3rd Gen Monster, 1st Gen Sumo, skx, Samurai, Anthracite Turtle.... Not to mention the other 30 watches in the collection... Have taken a self imposed moratorium....great review keep em coming its a great comparison with the Sumo looking so much bigger on wrist... But closer than they appear.

I like the 061. But not sure i like it @ 800 with a 6R15. I may get one if price was in the 500-600 range. The new sumo now has a better movement for 800-900 range.

@jamess8175
@jamess8175 5 лет назад
This is a good comparison! You have mentioned the similarities and differences. Yes, similar in many ways, yet different enough to keep both. Coincidentally, I own both of these watches in the exact colour as per your video. From the identical 6R15 movement to the lume and build quality, they are pretty much on par. The Hardlex on the Blumo is a let down though probably due to its lower price, which is why I sent it to a watchmaker to have the crystal upgraded to a double domed sapphire. On the other hand, the SBDC061 does feature a better quality bracelet. Nothing is perfect; the disadvantage of Diashield coating is that scratches cannot be polished away. Moreover, the entire watch being Diashield coated means the stainless steel is presented in a darker hue, as compared to the Blumo without it. So if you are thinking of replacing the SBDC061 bracelet with an aftermarket Strapcode bracelet, you will end up having two different tones -- the watchcase will seem much darker than the Strapcode bracelet which is unsightly. Overall, these two are keepers certainly! I enjoy wearing both on different days, among other Seikos and non-Seikos. For those who have one or both, enjoy!
@WatchChris
@WatchChris 5 лет назад
Hey James I actually didn't know that about diashield very interesting for sure... I believe these are definitely on par with each other I guess that's why they stop making the sumo when they came out with the SBDC 061. That being said they're so different at the same time The cases are completely different or at least look different even though they have very similar specs and even similar lines they look very different. I'm not sure many people would buy both because they're so similar except for people like us who love Seiko.
@jamess8175
@jamess8175 5 лет назад
@@WatchChris You already said the cases are completely different, so why wouldn't people buy both? Haha.. I bought the SBDC061 way after I bought the Blumo because I see they are completely different and the 061 has better bracelet. Seiko halted production of the black and blue Sumo not because of the introduction of SBDC061, but because they were manufacturing replacement models, SBDC081 (green) and SBDC083 (black), upgraded with new 6R35 movement (with 70 hour power reserve) and sapphire crystal. They are also marketed as international versions with SPB prefix. However, for the upgraded new Sumo models, customers have to fork out at least 40% more than the old Sumo. Did you realise, after they stopped producing the SBDC031 and SBDC033 Sumo, they have also released a Blue Coral and a Jade Green Sumo, before they began selling the latest upgraded replacements which I mentioned? It is clear that the Baby MM200 SBDC061 was never intended as a Sumo replacement. Check out the replacement models in black and green below. I am sure other colours are on the way.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MKzoMfH-Yak.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-slbOelrDz20.html

@sernsin liang When you wash the watch, you got to rotate the bezel and run water through while rubbing the bezel side gently with fingers / sponge / cloth. In this way, you will be able to clean any trapped dirt and grime. I do that and there is no issue.

I own the Blumo and have a little different take on some things. I actually like the bezel, although I wish it was ceramic, because it IS different from all the other Seiko bezels. From a few feet away, the 061 bezel looks like an SKX. I will agree, the bracelet sucks, as do most Seikos. I replaced my bracelet with a Strapcode Oyster bracelet. Even with paying $140 for the bracelet I am still ahead of buying the 061, dollarwise. Finally, the crystal. Sapphire is nice, but it is not that big of a deal unless you beat the hell out of your watches. I own 13 Seiko Divers from the SKX to the Blumo, including a Solar SNE435. They all have Hardlex and NONE of them have ever scratched. I think the watch-snobs are just caught up in the sapphire hype.
@WatchChris
@WatchChris 4 года назад
Hey Mark thanks for the comment. I own both the blumo and the 061 And I agree with you on most of your points. I think there are different enough to sit side by side in the same collection. The blumo was definitely a way better value and lack of sapphire crystal really doesn't mean that much especially as you say if you're careful with your watches you'll never get a scratch on Hardlex. I have scratched a mineral crystal in the past but that was under extreme circumstance. Either way both great watches! I've always hated the bezel insert on the Sumo. It's too loud with its huge numbers. But I do prefer the second hand it has.

Hey Klaus I agree Sapphire is just better and to make the SBDC033 with a sapphire and upgrading the bracelet it would end up costing the same amount as a SBDC061. So I'm guessing that's why they replaced the 033 with the 061. Anyway Thanks for the comment. Please don't forget the license subscribe if you haven't. It's much appreciated very helpful. Never liked the Sumo. It looks like the design was made without much thought behind it - the proportions are off, the bezel is too fat, it wears too chunky, the random font choice is very uninspired. It looks like something from Invicta or Pagani design. It is a quality watch, but i think the turtle and the samurai have more character. The advantage of the Sumo is the signed crown. Other than that the Baby MM is far supperior for me. I actualy think the hour hand gives it uniqueness.

Not sure why a signed crown constitutes an "advantage". It really does nothing to the watch functionally and when it's on the wrist you won't see it anyways. I get that it's a preference and for some makes the watch feel nicer, but it really doesn't do anything for the watch functionally and the MM200 finishing overall seems better anyways. I agree with another comment here that the extra branding actually looks tacky at times. Then again, I have no problem with the Prospex X and that apparently really grinds some peoples' gears. :) Also Hardlex is great. We've all heard it over and over, Hardlex is more shatter resistant and sapphire is more scratch resistant, so for most I can see that sapphire seems more appealing out the gate. However, these are intended to be used professionally too, so Hardlex kinda makes sense, no? Also in 20+ Seiko watches owned, I have NEVER scratched a Hardlex crystal. Maybe some are less careful with their watches than me but I've banged them off door jambs, too, right on the crystal. No scratches. Even out of the water, I'd rather the crystal scratch than shatter. All this said, I really would like the Sumo. I've been wondering how it would wear since I have a 6.5 inch wrist. I'm wearing the MM200 as I type this and I really like how it fits and looks on my wrist, but the lug-to-lug really is at the top end for me. I think the lug-to-lug is slightly bigger on the Sumo, but it looks like the bracelet on the Sumo has the female style end link, whereas the MM200 bracelet has the male style which adds to overall end to end measurement, maybe even a couple mm. Tempted by the affordable prices on the regular Sumo models, but I'm also wanting to spring for an Ice Diver version like the SPB179. Pretty sure the newer Sumos have sapphire, too, for those who care, but I may be wrong about that one. Good comparison overall. I think they're different enough to warrant owning both.
