Seishin Gi First Impressions 

Odd--I wasn't under the impression that I got anything out of the ordinary. Maybe yours was missed by accident?

Yeah, weird. Anyways, I got the Gi which is the most important thing. And I have to say that not only is the Gi comfortable (It has a great snap to it, feels thick but is not as heavy as others and I quite like the high waist on the pants too) but it is the only Gi I ever owned that fit like a glove right out of the box! If you can afford it, buy it. I don't think you will regret it.

I ordered mine directly via seishin-international.com almost two years ago and got the "patch" and certificate of authenticity. As I recall, if you ordered from the US website (seishinusa.com) you will get the same gi, but not the "patch" and certificate. You also won't have to pay the rather large import tax that I had to (and the UPS handling fee that goes with said tax). Also, mine was _not_ in an Amazon box and that yours was sounds... odd... at least in the context of the international website. Do you know, SechoDB, if you did the USA or international website? The FAQs of the two websites explain the "patch" and certificate. Oh... and kid's gis don't get the certificate. As for "holding up", mine has done extremely well, despite 2 years of Okinawan-style grappling and the like. I never untie my jacket or anything and life is good (then again, I like to have my belt semi-snug... I know that some people like their belts so loose that they are practically falling off... that's not me). As an aside, this is the first gi of mine that has lasted more than 6 months. Usually they start ripping around the 6 month time frame.

As I'm not terribly familiar with the complexities of insulin pumps, I'm afraid I'm not much help. I will say that the raised waistband has about 2" of extra material above the ties, and I would think that a tailor might be able to do something in that area to account for the pump?

After talking to the wife we are going to order a Seishin and see if it will work.

The Okinawa Edition is better than the classic, but I would say that, unless you are doing kata competitions all the time, get a KI Intl or Ronin Brand instead.

KI/Mugen is a good brand that can be had for a reasonable price. That's the standard we use with our students at the dojo, and most of the instructors stick with them as well

I have the 185cm size. It shrunk a bit, but not much, since I always hang dry my dogi. I can't wear the pants as high-waisted pants, because there isn't enough room in them, but otherwise the fit and comfort are good. The Okinawa Edition is better than the standard, and better in the summer than most dogi. Durability-wise, every heavyweight dogi I have owned has held up significantly better than Seishin, but Seishin is also made of thinner material.

@@ilpracticalkarate Thank you very much for the quick and informative reply. As much as I can see in your and in other videos the Dogi looks very leightweight. I‘m used to 14 ounces and I‘m not sure if I would get used to the thin fabric of the Seishin. Maybe yes. So you say the Okinawa Edition is better than the all cotton? Why that?

Not yet, because I'm putting it through the wringer first. I caused my first damage to it last time I went to the dojo

I don't really compare "snap" all that much, since I don't compete, but I suppose it is less snappy than a Shureido, but still pretty snappy.

Henrick Boot For sure I understand and agree with that. But snap is one of the features that all brands have and promote. Including the japanese ones so its one of the factors to analyse. Having 32 years of karate training, your developed kime can snap even a silk robe. But when comparing products, its a feature that indicates if its confortable, stiff, if it adapts well to the body and others. Best regards.
