28:50 is it sexist if I say that I feel like it's a bunch of guys getting so transcendental about doing a thing that women has been doing for ages and act like they're being ground breaking by just doing make up? Like, I know it can be a passion, it can change someone's life for better but I feel like women are generally being put down for doing make up (being called shallow, slutty, ugly, etc) and suddenly when men discover make up, they act like they're first people to do it and it's suddenly uplifting, beautiful and positive... I'm horrified for that poor packaging designer. She made what she was asked to, dealt with an uncommunicative client who, after being passive-aggressive, went to someone else+his millions of fans to talk about how much he hated her designs, and then he took his amateur self to photoshop and told his audience that he "fixed" everything. Which implies that she did something wrong. Like, I'd be so insulted and embarrassed if a client treated me that way. Like Nick was saying, there's nothing wrong with him using photoshop to mock up an idea of what he wanted or telling the packaging designers that he didn't like the samples, but he could have been so much more gracious for their time and effort. Being upfront about the designs that he didn't like would have been kinder and more professional than the childish way he said nothing and then went to Jeffree to fix everything. It's not their fault he told them he wanted a boring unisex box.

While Shane was speaking negatively about lip fillers, JS was wincing and acting disgusted...bt he gets them lol he got his ass done, everyone knows that idt he's ever tried to hide the fact that he's had work done. So for him to act disgusted and then tell Morgan to not get it if she wants it was phony imo. I would've bought it more had they framed it as "hey ps hurts and is expensive. It requires more upkeep etc etc bc I know from experience. Don't do it just to fit in, bt if you want full lips bc you like full lips, do it." Shane's framing around it was negative from the jump, and I understand why, bt JS was not the choice to mentor for this situation.

the parts where shane is "reviewing" the packaging options and realizing that he doesn't have the vocabulary or skill to give feedback is making me die inside because i have been the designer/AD/whatever in SO MANY of those exact same meetings. not being able to articulate what he does or doesn't like, focusing on little details that aren't being asked about, getting cold feet about the concept that he wanted now that its too late to change it, asking you what the "gimmick" or "one thing" is, all of it is hitting wayyy too close to home haha edit: of course it ends with him doing his own design and sending it in with no prompting. now we just need someone's wife to make a suggestion that derails the entire concept and this bingo card is full up baby!!

Why?!?! What professional criminal would be familiar enough with Jeffree's makeup line, to know this was some brand new, unreleased product?!?! The answer is NONE. Or if they did somehow know all about him, and his line, why would they not steal a variety of products to "leak"?!?! As a packaging designer, having a crappy mock up someone made in ten minutes drawn with a computer mouse can be so much easier to build on than even an articulate person explaining what they’re after. At the very least drawing it forces that person to actually understand their own thoughts enough to realise if they’re asking for something that’s literally impossible. I swear some people don’t have the ability to understand a box only has 6 sides until they draw it.

Fully agree!! I’m a freelance artist and people sending me drawings of what they want is SO HELPFUL!! Had someone send me a stick figure drawing the other day for how they wanted the scene set, and it saved me so much trouble!

You’ve just described my mother. The amount of time we wasted arranging the furniture in her new home because she could not see in her head that X, Y, and Z would not fit where she wanted, or A space would be too cluttered with all the stuff she wanted in that spot, until we PHYSICALLY moved those items to where she wanted for her to realize it wouldn’t work was exhausting. We would have gotten so much more done in a day if she could either visualize it ahead of time or just accept that 3 people telling her it won’t work means it won’t work.

I guess branding the business to what you want and the vision with have for it. And being able to find someone who can bring it to life. But I agree I wouldn’t say I have so much to do but moreso “project managing and processing ig ?” Cause even wedding planners you need people to fulfill their roles like wedding bouquet, wedding cake, wedding venue, people to make the wedding venue etc

You make a very good point. If I built my wealth off of youtube and wanted to be taken seriously as a filmaker/storyteller/comedian, I'd use some of that wealth to enroll in a top filmaking program and take acting classes on the side. Many beauty gurus take the time to get cosmetology liscense once they want to make a business and brand out of their hobby. Idk why Shane thinks he's above it all.

I would have enjoyed the docuseries of sorts if it was just in the factory. Like, showing the pigments, mixing the eyeshadows, putting them in the pans, putting them in the palette. That’s far more interesting. Honestly, I really loved two of the shadows in that palette, but then I saw the price and I found some dupes.

yes! even the original concept of the series wasn't bad where he said he was going to expose a bunch of drama and secrets in the beauty world. It's not high art but it would've been entertaining. Then when the palette launched he decided he didn't want to expose any drama after all (or didn't have any to expose) and the whole thing turned into a weird messy video series to hype the sales of a product. BORING.

I would have been more interested in the brainstorming, choosing color range, the product line, and selecting the pigments, “should this have more sparkle?”, “less gloss”, “I thought this blue would be more purple”, “what if this eyeshadow color was a liquid lip?”, “can we make a special edition with a limited count with a few extra colors, and an open edition with the pre-selected colors?”

the way shane talks about his body is.... unhealthy for his young audience to be saturated with, like, at best. theres a line between relatable self-roasting and constantly hammering home the fact that you, a man of entirely average build, see yourself as fat and that it makes you feel gross and unhealthy. Think about a 13-y/o listening to him talk about his body and going "well if he's fat I must be a monster" the fatphobia is real and he thinks he's breaking down barriers by being a man in bad makeup like we've seen it

shane was at one point like 400lbs, had lost most of that weight, and had surgery to remove loose skin (I remember seeing back in the youtube day shane talking about the blood bags while recovering from the loose skin surgery). so it's understandable he is not comfortable with his body if you knew that information, but if you got into his content around this time it's just him calling himself fat.

I have been doing makeup since the early 2000's and am just learning how to properly blend makeup, lol. In my defense, I really loved makeup, but I couldn't afford good brushes or good makeup, I used like dollar store makeup and brushes, lol. Plus I realized I was blending wrong in the first place from Robert Welsh on RU-vid, so looking back on old photos is so cringey, lol. I'm not saying he was actually into makeup, it sort of seems like he wasn't, but who knows, maybe he was but lost interest, but I'm just saying that a lot of people my age grew up not even bothering to blend makeup, lol. 90's to early 2000's makeup was rough, lol and also it's funny how his blue eyeshadow look was basically right out of my Highschool days, lol 🤣

As someone who has been a designer for 10+ years, if a client came up to me and showed me something they had done themselves, probably without me knowing they were doing it, after behaving that way in a meeting, I would flip the table. One thing is for the client to look at a product and go 'i dislike this font, this color, I think it needs this and that' so that I can do my job (I'd go as far as having the client sitting next to me telling me what they'd like to see, with me supervising and explaining why this or that may not work). But sitting down on a meeting, going like 'welll....mmmm...I don't know...mmeeehh...I think...maybe?' and then going home and doing it themselves (probably without even telling the deisgner they were doing so)....that part got me soo pissed man!! Nobody edits his work, but he edited someone elses...

honestly incredibly astute observation. the shift to doc film making was in itself his version of the perfect “out” in terms of having to take criticism because everything is centralized around his narrative lens. like one could argue all of yt affords this, but given how shane has always had his sights on being taken more seriously the perfunctory title of “documentarian” (if you can even call it that) boosts his already inflated sense of self importance.

As someone who takes on commissions, likes making design and creative decisions, and is a little bit of a leader, The way Shane handles and deals with making executive decisions, leading and throwing out his ideas just infuriates me lmao. It's so inconciderate of the workers and everyone in the meeting, not talking and rudely making weird comments about it. Be honest about what u do and dont like You're the one who's in charge here, dont start acting like a baby because your original choices aren't turning out well, that's what the meetings are for
