Shavettes #3 - Johan's Favorite Razor - Focus R28, White Wizard, Island Man

Nice shave Chris with Johan’s favourite razor 😌👏 Back in the day when this razor came out I remember all the talk about the styling, and the different blade loading mechanism, how safe it was, and how it used the springiness of a snapped blade to hold it secure and wondering whether it was shaved good as well as being cleverly engineered and stylish. Then I was very fortunate, a kind friend sent me one, and discovered it’s a brilliant shavette.

I love the Focus Slim AL, it’s become one of my favorite razors. One day Johan will get one of these and appreciate how wonderful they are. Great shave with a great razor.

I have been using shavettes lately.. You're correct. I took two days to heal from my cutting myself with a MD barber stealth shavette,and coming at the wrong angle..I knew it once I did it .. Getting a new years eve shave in a little bit.. Gravity razors, and Kashi, and MD Barber.. IBC razor.. Planning on either a Parker ptbak and a tomb 45 3 way razor.. Both are adjustable cartridge shavettes. Hope you have been well.

Great shave Chris! I love that razor, with the built in blade protection for the heel and toe(the two areas that get people with the points when using shavettes) and the built in bevel for ideal shaving angle, it’s hard to go wrong with them.

I got a Parker "hinge type" shavette with a rosewood handle a couple weeks ago and I really enjoy it! Island Man is a awesome scent, i have all the products they offer in it. 👍😉💈 Have a good one! Steve

Really nice shave! For me the Focus was THE razor some years ago. Briłliant razor. Short blade... I think it's sometimes a good thing. You may have areas that are hard to get to with a long blade. Another good thing is that the ends of the blade are protected in this razor. 😊 Have a great weekend! Cheers!

In my experience, shavettes have always given me the closest shaves. Crazy close, but not always comfortable - an argument can be made that the surgical sharpness of some de/shavette blades not only sheer off hair, but also the skin that supports it - right down to the papillary layer (ouch!!!). There is such a thing as 'too sharp', seeing as that shaving is already an aggressive form of exfoliation. Anyway, it's food for thought for guys and galls who shave everyday. I always caution against it, but that's just me. I look forward to giving the Focus a go in the near future. Thanks for sharing, and joyful shaves to all! Cheers!

I started out Traditional WetShaving using a classic Samurai Shavette. That’s funny that you mentioned it was the ninja class of straight razor shaving lol . That was the first thing I bought. It came with 100 derby half blades. Omg I wish I would of known about derby when I was just starting out man I got tore up! 🤕 My first Safety razor was the Muhle R-41 so goes to show you can start out with a bang lol

Nice shave there, Chris. My advice for newer shavers is to take your time. Shavettes will teach you a bloody lesson if you aren't careful. Not trying to frighten anyone away from trying a shavette, I just advise taking it slow at first. Respect the blade. Cheers!

Great job with the shavette. I tried one once... looked like I was attacked by a pack of feral cats. I still get weepers and the odd nick with a normal straight.

I've not tried a shavette with a DE. Did you find the blade provided a more efficient or closer shave? I enjoy artisan blades but you have inspired my daring. As soon as I get my IBC back from on loan, I'll give it a go. Hope I have as great a result. Well Done !

So Chris. If I already have the feather artist club is there any reason at all to consider one of these types of shavettes

That slim has been a confidence builder when I get frustrated with the straight razor

You cannot get a closer shave than with a shavette. That's one reason barbers use them as well as the low maintenance. Plus, compared to a straight razor they are cheap, maybe not the one you used! During the week, i use them all the time, because a shave will last for days and i don't have to do a full 3 pass shave as with a straight. Weekends are for straights. T

Do what makes you happy.

If one owns a DE, why use a shavette? If one uses a true straight razor, why a shavette? Seems like walking on eggs shells to use that thing, what the reason for its personal existence? I understand the hygienic why professional barbers may use them. But at home, what the advantage over a DE or a true straight?
