What she doesn’t understand is while $100 a month isn’t a lot to scam someone for…. These people are not just scamming her. They work together and scams hundreds a month. It’s an entire career for them.

Some women write letters and send money to men who are in jail for life. It's a way of coping with loneliness but not wanting a real relationship because of having been hurt in the past.

In this way they show you they are on your "team." It causes you to appreciate and trust them with your emotions. If you are sick, they are very sympathetic, making suggestions about eating and drinking and taking care of yourself. They come off as being very nurturing and very sensitive, but it's all and ACT. People love someone who cares about what they care about. If you like baking pies, they'll tell you they like baking pies too, or they love pies, or their grandmother baked pies, and they loved their grandmother. There is no more successful way to weasel into someone's emotions than to ask them about what they care about, and talk to them about those things. If you are sitting in a crowd of people and start talking about your mother who's sick, you may have a couple of people say they are so sorry, then they move away. Scammers with keep asking you all about it, and be SO sympathetic. Don't trust it. They feed like termites on your emotions and your money.

My mom was scammed for $30,000.00. Even though I proved he was a scammer, she kept talking to him and insisted he was real! It took me getting on the phone with this guy and tell him I brought law enforcement in to get him to stop taking her calls and get her to see through the scam. It is horrible that people be taken advantage of in this way. Bottom line, if someone you have never met asks for money, it is a scam!

She’s lonely & overwhelmed by her situation so she was willing to pay for his long distance companionship. She isn’t stupid, just lonely and depressed, while caring for a loved one whose health is declining. She certainly shouldn’t be dating, she’s too vulnerable to deal with the dating scene right now. She needs to have ongoing therapy sessions with a counselor to help her process and lift her self esteem.
