I love the language Roman used, "Because I don't want to. It makes me feel unwell." This is a great phrase for all of us to adopt in our everyday life when we feel uncomfortable and someone pressures us to do things we don't want to do/don't believe in.
I love the subtle detail of Roman saying, "it's not in my best interests" which is exactly what Gerri tells him to always question in the next episode; demonstrating what everyone says about him having great but untamed instincts. Stunning writing
@@jarmonjohnsonIt kinda is because he’s saying that the world will do the same with Kendall and this letter. Drastically different levels of stakes but point still stands.
“He taught me how to aim my pee pee in the toilet” is actually one of the most emotional and sweet things Roman has said about why he loves his brother 😢❤
The brothers weren’t going to publicly slate their own brother like that, Shiv was just mad at the stunt Kendall pulled at her speech. They even knew it was a very low blow to make.
Which is funny because Ken's prank was just that, a harmless prank. Shiv knew this would hit him to his core and she not only went through with it, she tried to get her brothers to do same over again, a prank. And she was supposed to be the one working for the "good guys" in her political days.
Roman and Conor did the right thing but Shiv was blinded by her rage because of the stunt Kendall pulled during her speech. As siblings, they know how to cut each other deep. The previous episode, Shiv mocks Roman til he had to leave the room.
Shiv has been on her worst behavior this season. All to curry favor with Dad and it always fails. Logan rebuked her after the shareholder meeting. Like Kendall said at the beginning of the season, Logan has found his new Kendall in Shiv.
In that moment Connor seems like the most intelligent intellectual deadpan snarker in the show. If you knew nothing about the character and only saw this scene. It's brilliant.
@@mahapralaya999 here after the Karaoke episode - I think this speaks to Connor's role in the show. When around other capable adults, Connor is seen as a joke. But in the room with just Logan's kids, he's often the wisest voice. "Remember when we were kids, and you used to play post office?"
@@ShadowEl Interesting point. I guess if we look at the different parenting strategies Logan used on the various siblings, spoiling turned out the best.
I mean that’s why he didn’t join Kendall either. Kendall is out to kill dad and Roman doesn’t want that. Now Logan is out to kill Kendall and Roman wants no part of it. It’s hard to see because he says hurtful things 24/7 but he refrains from acting in ways that could permanently damage members of the family in the long term. Also is why he defended Kendall when logan chose him to take the fall but also refused to vote Logan out in the board meeting.
@@natethegreat1999 he was trying to vote him out by lifting his arm on the vote but Logan scared him away with the line, “You better be smelling your armpit Romulus”.
I love how the line is drawn between them even when they're on the same side. Roman still has brotherly feelings towards Kendall, Connor just has no rage towards him, and yet Shiv is going fucking crazy. It's so good.
Shiv might've made Ken more unhinged. This might push him too far And I love Roman's body language. Like he's genuinely uncomfortable with this, maybe dude has SOME loyalty to big bro after all
That's one of the most interesting things about roman in my opinion. That, despite initially appearing to not give too much of a shit about anything, he consistently refuses to make emotionally vicious moves against any of his family members. I think he's easily the most loyal and mature of all the siblings.
Roman and Kendall are closest thing to being best friends as Roy family members can, remember he was the first one to lash out at Logan when he realized that Kendall is going to be sacrificed at the end of season two
@@KazimierzStaszewski Kendall also put himself in Logan's way after he slapped the shit out of Roman in 2x6. And let's not forget that Roman was also very involved in the vote of no-confidence plot in season 1 before Logan (illegally and unethically) intimidated him out of it
@@mattb2704 Idk if I'd say it's because of "family members" more so than it's that he loves his brother (Ken), even when it's not easy. Ken struggles, a lot. But despite it, Roman's always somehow been on his side, especially during the big moments. When he starts to raise his hand during the vote of no confidence in S1 and only retracts/backs down because Logan intimidated him; when he picked up his brother at the drug den in S1; when he was deeply shocked about Logan throwing all the blame on Ken at the end of S2; when he brought back desserts for Ken from Europe in S3; not wanting to sign this damaging letter for Shiv in S3. I'd love to know more about their brotherhood, but I think Ken might be the sibling Roman looks up most to.
This makes me feel happy because Ken jumped up at Roman’s defense when Logan’s pimp hand slipped. I feel like this is Roman repaying his bro for that lol
2:12 OMFG if there is one thing I like about succession is that this show is about corporate America and business dealings and stuff that can easily get you to tune out but they always throw in these jarring lines that make me go HUH!?! And they are always soo good and I have to say Connor is underrated because he delivers some of the best comedic scenes
In a way we kind of relate to the characters because they are acted and written in such a natural way, yet once I started to think about this scene it really rubbed me the wrong way. Not only is Shiv willing to publically ruin Ken's reputation, but the brothers do absolutely nothing about it besides washing their hands of the whole thing. They don't like it, but they are passive enough to let it happen.
The fact that Kendall played a prank on shiv you could expect from a seven year old and shivs way of retaliating is to publicly drag her own brother to filth 😀
This really shows the brotherhood and bond between the brothers result of Logan's physical and mental abuse on them through their entire lives. Kendall, Connor and Roman have memories of enduring hard times together. Shiv never needed to be tough because she is the only daugther and the soft spot of their father. She never was abused like her brothers, that is why she can be ruthless without facing remorse.
The double standards people have when it comes to Shiv. It's okay for her brothers to be evil but when she tries to pay them back plastic Jesus Stans all of a sudden grow a conscience
Seriously the hate she gets in comparison to the others is off the charts, despite the fact I'd argue out of the main three she's the "best" one at least morally. But she's a woman so...
I think Shiv just happens to have the most insufferable attitude whilst doing evil things. At least her brothers seem tactical and intelligent about what they do for the most part 😂
@@Reaver1223 See this is an answer I can get behind. Think because she's so clearly damaged by the sexism heaped on her her entire life I'm a bit more sympathetic to her than others, but her seeming inability to grasp she needs to scratch others backs if she wants them to scratch hers is a VERY annoying trait of hers. The Greg incident at the election sticks out but there are plenty of times throughout the show where it beggars belief that she actually thinks others will do what she wants just because she swears at them a bit.
@@ZeldaKid5000 I think there are times where she fully believes she is smarter than she actually is and has better ideas than everyone solely because she is a woman in a “man’s world”. She usually views herself as more enlightened than everyone else and therefore she doesn’t need to offer anyone anything. I think that’s why people hate her more than her brothers, not because she’s a woman
Roman and Connor still love Kendall as a brother and feel there's a line they can't cross, but Shiv is so far gone at this point that she'll willfully destroy Kendall's life just to get back at him for a stunt.
But in the process she burns herself. Remember what logan said at end of the S3 E2. “You drop a couple bombs you get burned too, ya know?” I have a feeling this won’t land well for Shiv.
well...remember what Kendall said to her in the second episode when she didn't want to take his side ... and when he "tried" to apologize he still said he's right ... they are all nasty from every angle, a family of vipers
@@user-lr2iy7mc7w so far at this point we don't really know who planted the speakers, Kendall's shock at the end of the episode might imply he doesn't know why shiv was so heartless to him
@@mauroguzman9905 it's pretty clear that he dropped them and man, with how manic and delusional he's been, it's not surprising at all that he didn't expect that kind of retaliation because at the end of the day he's not the sharpest tool in the tool box.
Both. Roman doesn’t want to hurt Kendall that much because they’re brothers. Connor understands that that info being out there forever is not in their interests long term.
Out of all four, Shiv is by far the biggest spoiled brat. This was not calculated, it was spite and the brothers knew that and that's why they refused.
Lol the misogyny. Shiv's not any worse than the rest of the siblings, like Kendall has fully killed someone and the brothers generally bully and treat people worse than Shiv but just cos she's as ambitious and amoral as them she gets more shit. And it was fully strategic everything she does is strategic, it was a very smart play even if it came from her being rightfully pissed.
@@philipgodsworth4764 are u dense ? You don’t even know what a neoliberal is do you? There’s nothing political literally just saying that she’s getting judged harsher generally cos she’s a woman even though everyone else is equally spoiled selfish and fucked up
@@nk0314 big difference between a nameless troll job and putting out a signed public statement. He called you a neolib because you’re hiding behind the ‘misogyny’ argument when there’s none to be made in this context
@@nk0314 Kendall didn’t kill anyone lmao the dude wasn’t paying attention to the road You’re acting like Kendall was the one driving or grabbed the wheel
Love how roman is against this and then a couple episodes later we find out there going after Kendall’s kids and he’s like just yeah whatever. 😂 i love the hypocrisy in this show!
Shiv is the most like Logan, ruthless and vindictive, if she was a man 100% she would be Logan's heir. It's only because he's sexist he never considered her seriously as his heir and then kept deriding Kendall for being something he isn't.
You feel that at any moment someone is gonna cop it in the back. It's so Rome or Elizabethan England where just walking across the room could be the last walk..
This is why Shiv is one of the cruelest. Because she get back at anyone in the most personal way. And people call me sexist for saying so. I'm not saying she shouldn't have done that, just pointing out how she plays the game. Kendall should've seen this coming. C'mon, everyone in Roy family is f up.
So we all know it's not Kendall who set up the speakers. Everyone's saying it's Logan, which would be obvious. What if it's Gerri??? Think about it. If there's anyone who would have the most advantage by tearing the family apart it's her. Also she's a very dangerous enemy.
@@georgedanilov8898 he got the speakers for his office but Gerri The Conniving took them while he was in the washroom! Gerri, one of the more disposable members of Logan's crew, is actually running around with bluetooth speakers and sabotaging company functions!
I'm starting to feel that Kendall and Logan are in on this together. They planned this whole divide... I don't know why... But there may be a big plot twist to this
That'd be wild. My theory for a plot twist is that Logan set up the stunt during Shiv's speech to make her turn on Kendall. He's known to be super protective of Shiv but he did say 'scorched earth'.
@@dannygomez2324 It's the moment right after when Shiv walks into Logan's office that made me think so. He's been trying to reel her back onto the side he controls and the speaker incident got the job done. She went full commando on Kendall with this press release.
I think Kendall will "win" this series and Logan will go try to become president. They might not be on the same side, but Logan is probably happy about Kendall and what he's doing.
@@ah1106onps3 there are scenes showing Kendall planning this... On top of that, there's no way Logan would've thought to have them play the song "Rape Me" by Nirvana that's a classic Kendall move and makes sense since he was a teen in the 90s
