@Mar bro none of this makes me wanna believe in God. What does science being good or bad have to do with anything? Yeah the atomic bombs are bad, but that has nothing to do with science or god. Science can be bad but atleast I know it's real, because I know atomic bombs are real. I just am not for certain if God is real. I just always like to think that the most plausible answer is what I should believe. I think its more likely that events, showcased to be possible by scientific research is more likely to be responsible for the universe than an omnipresent being that breaks all the known laws of our universe. Also its even less plausible that the God of Christianity is the true God because people believe in so many gods.

Honestly that seems like it would help more people than MKs specifically. Lot's of people growing up without being exposed to missionary life still grow up with minimal exposure to anyone who isn't christian and have a hard time dealing with isolation if and when they come out about their perspective to loved ones. I think one of the hardest things about leaving religion is leaving religious fellowship but that problem really has nothing to do with leaving religion, it has everything to do with religious people turning their backs on loved ones when they find out their loved ones disagree with them. There are resources to find fellowship within the atheist community but the atheist community is just MUCH smaller than any major religion and it can be hard to find new people, it takes time to get to know new people and it's just such a shame when someone who already loves you gives up on that love because they find out you disagree with them on religion. I certainly don't have a universal answer to the question of how and whether to bring up your changing perspective to a loved one who would believe that atheists/members of other religions all go to hell, I think that needs to be decided on a case by case basis but I bet that would make a great topic of discussion for this series.

It's a hard question, and one that held me back for a while when I was in the process of deconstructing. Personally, I choose to view missionaries such as my parents as generally very good people who have an admirable dedication to their beliefs, but who are perhaps a bit misguided. It's not a perfect stance, but it's not like I want to cut off everyone I grew up with, and it works fine with the physical distance I've put between myself and my family. I was lucky to move to a liberal college right when my struggles with my faith were coming to a head, and I opted to move even farther away after college. I haven't actually _told_ anyone in the missions community that I'm an atheist, though, I just kind of skirt the questions and say I'm trying to figure out my faith for myself, outside of church where you always hear the same things. (That was actually true when I first stopped going to church.) Pretty sure after so many years my parents realize I'm not Christian anymore, but there's never been a confrontation. However, this sort of don't-ask-don't-tell does mean that I bite my tongue whenever they're saying harmful things (like anti-LGBT), so I wouldn't say it's necessarily a great situation...

It's always seemed to me that the reason most missionary organizations even provide humanitarian aid is the same reason a narcissist does good things, it's just to be given credit for the good they've done. And the reason eternal torture was conceptualized as an idea wasn't because of any God, because even if there was a God he is far more likely to be running this world on a computer server (or its closest analog) in his own world than he is creating an eternal realm of torture.
