The Mauser 1871 was the first rifle designed by the Mauser brothers to be adopted by the Imperial German Army.
My rifle is having issues extracting cases. The issue is twofold, the extractor itself is loose and the rims on the converted 45-70 cases are undersized.

I believe this is the rifle the Irish call a Howth Mauser, it was made their famous howth gunrunning event.

Yep, 900 were imported and then used in the Rising. You can still see some of the bullet holes in the older buildings in Dublin

Thank you for sharing. I also use 45-70 brass in my M71 because I have several hundred once-fired cases. I now turn the rims to .600 - .601... any larger and the bolt closes with difficulty. The oversize rims hold the case centered in the chamber so wrapping some tape around the base isn't required. I also make sure the extractor hook is forward of the rim before closing the bolt on a round. I don't want to stress the 140 year old extractor by forcing it to snap over the rim when closing the bolt. Keep up the good work and I eagerly await your next project.

I have 2 1871's and use 45-90 brass with no extraction issues. Could your extractor be chipped or rounded off? They certainly are a piece of art from a time long gone. I have a nice rifle, I also picked up a Karabiner 71for cheap that had the fore end chopped off. I made a new fore end and acquired a nose-cap and have it back to original configuration.

The hook end looks like it's in good condition. I think the extractor needs to be bent, it's a very loose fit in the bolt head.

hi, to you ‼️ good video, why don't you change the extractor and put it on the right, or otherwise leave the extractor on the left and put a second guide extractor on the right ❓ surely that modified change the original design, but the bolt extracting and ejecting too ... bye bye 👋😉
