Always love a lesson in how to get better, thanks BrioS

We all make mistakes and I just hope people learn from theirs as I try to learn from mine. I hope this analysis helped as the game was pretty close to a certain point until the large force pushed into E5 (while we held the high ground above it). That was a very obvious turning point and decided the match for sure. If just one light (eg. their ACH) engaged me, that would have pushed me back and things would have gone VERY differently. - BrioS

What grinds my gears is assaults that turn into chickens as soon as they get One AC5 to the arm and they run like cowards. Great video man, how did I not find this channel earlier.

With the large alphas nowadays, people are very adverse to taking damage. While I don't advocate taking damage for no reason, taking damage is often a necessary thing for various reasons (get to a better position, trade with the enemy, etc). It is often said that armor is like currency: don't waste it unnecessarily and trade it for as much damage to the enemy as possible or something advantageous like a better position. - BrioS

@@ClanBRxV I fully agree, I have games where I sacrifice myself so my team can get the advantage and win the game, knowing when to commit is half my job as an assault.

11:35 I am a similar vintage and started with Battletech around the same time. It took me 27 years to get my first game of MechWarrior table top RPG though. One of the best role playing stories I have played.

Honestly, I didn't really like the RPG that much but it was still fun. I did enjoy table top a lot and arranged quite a few tourneys back in the day, liaising with shops here for space and prizes. Good old times. - BrioS

@@ClanBRxV I have only played the one MechWarrior game and it was with a recent version of the rules and a very good GM, so my perspective might be skewed

Great exmple for what not to do. I wish all players would watch this. Ok, not all, because I need some farming from time to time. ;)

Shooting wins games : Getting shot loses games 😊

One of the common problems on the modern day battlefield is that people don't shoot. The alphas are larger nowadays and TTK is lower (unless people have some semblance of defensive skills like twisting) and this has led people to hiding behind rocks and walls for too much. In a way I can't blame them because a bad peek is death but basically if they are not shooting and the enemy is, the game is lost. - BrioS

It is amazing how many people play this game who are terrible at it, but they blame everyone else. Just last night we had four guys covering two pop tarts. My three teammates ran away in terror claiming nobody could shoot a pop tart. 🤦‍♂️ Focused fire wins every time. People who get hit one time and run away lose every time. If you see someone fighting a 1v1 and you can break contact to help them, do so. If you get flanked and find yourself in a crossfire, push the direction that protects your back. This game is only partly about having a good aim and build. Mostly, it is about position and teamwork. If there is a clan full of people with this mentality, please let me know.

Ironically the MAD-IIC-D in this configuration is a perfectly balanced mech if you ask me. Yes, you are throwing a lot of dmg towards the enemy, but oh boy... If there is more than one mech approaching you or you miss, you are getting wrecked .

Totally true! Exceedingly powerful but also rather unforgiving. I was also testing HAGvomit and this build. I feel the heat is insane for the damage output but, as you can see, damage output can be immense. Overall, I think (like you said), it's very balanced. - BrioS

You shouldn't have to educate people on strat in a game this old. But the population turnover has been so bad, you have to educate people. But, I have seen some shitty builds, so some people lose in the mech lab before the game. (Maybe testing mech builds?) With all the long-mid range laser vomit, HAGs, and coordinated fire, it really intimidates some players due to a quick death through burst damage. It's a rare game where the team is fully aggressive and damage is similar among the whole team. I've seen half the team do sub 200-300 damage multiple games over a day. It gets frustrating.

mwo is a game with nothing much at stake, there is not really any grind, people want to blast mechs and try different builds, it is supposed to be fun you know, especially at low tiers. so be a bit tolerant of what you might think is "bad builds", shoot red targets and move on to the next match maybe? maybe the population turnover would not be so bad if people were encouraged to have fun rather than use only "optimized" builds and strats?

@@kearseymorton2078 I was going to enumerate the points that make this game no fun at all, but it's pointless. PGI changed the PSR and reset everyone's levels. The really good players advanced to Tier 1 in about 2 weeks and most left the game for new pastures afterwards. The few that stayed stayed out of love for the game. We all love this game because of the big stompy robots, but that's about it. We are the diehards.

@@kearseymorton2078Well, to add my 2 cents worth and to be honest it works both ways. People who just want to stomp around in different builds and just walk around also have to respect that there are others who play "better" builds and play with a strat in mind with the end goal of winning. It only gets toxic when one side starts getting rude and yell at the other in game or go to the forums to rant about them. Or play "bad" builds and think those are great and get toxic on people who give advice. Personally I don't mind either perspective as long as people don't troll each other or each other. It's just like my perspective in life : I hold firm to my moral compass (eg. religion, values) and I may consider an alternate perspective right/wrong based on my moral compass but I don't shove it down their throat. That is when it gets toxic. Ultimately it is a team game with 12 players per side and personally all I want is people to have fun and shoot stuff. If people choose a build/strat and know/accept the consequences, then I am actually fine. If you actually watch my streams, I don't (overly) judge people. I do laugh about/at certain things but ultimately it is what it is. Cheers man! :) - BrioS

@@kearseymorton2078 A build being fun and a build being bad are two completely different things. Most people tend to have more fun when they are able to perform well and its notable that a large of percentage of players who claim they are just having "fun" also tend to the be same players who constantly complain about their teams losing and not supporting them. If you are losing most of your matches and are consistantly one of the lowest performing members of your team then odds are you are not having much fun and your teammates are not enjoying having you on the same team. Enjoyment should always be the goal of any game but in a team based PvP game, carrying your own weight and being able to positively contribute towards your teams chances of winning makes games more fun for most people. Bringing builds you can objectively perform well in plays a large part of that.

@@johnmoore8599 the majority of population loss in MWO occurred from 2015-2019 due to various unpopular changes PGI made (mech rescaling, lurmpocalypse, skillmaze etc) followed by going into maintenance mode for several years. There was actually a significant population increase following the PSR change/reset occurred in 2020 and the introduction of the Cauldron led balance changes in 2021, which have mostly been maintained into 2024.
