I'm going to need new tires this year, at the very least a rear tire. I'm going to switch over to car tires. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Running them at lower air pressures is the way to go so they aren't so stiff. BRP doesn't want people to mount car tires so they can sell their own tires for it. Thats really the only reason.

I road a car tire on my RT and never had an issue with it. Now that I have the Ryker I don't need tires yet. I haven't heard of any running a car tire on one yet, but I would consider it.

I’ve been running car tires front and rear for and do love the better life span than the original factory tires. The climate were I live is cold and rainy 9 months out of the year. I’ve even ran winter tires on all three wheels. Bridgestone Blizzacks up front and General Tiger paws on the rear even ran a studded tire for awhile. I will say the biggest drawback is this. The tires available that do fit the front wheels are very limited and can involve removing the front fenders due too extra width as 165 widths are rare. 175s are what I run. This is especially hard to find because it’s a 15 inch tire. They’re getting rare. The other problem is the weight or weight displacement on the tire. Comes with 165 you put a 175 lower weight per square inch and in the rain this equals hydro planing at a lower speed… Add rutted roads holding water and in between a bit of a hump remains the machine can wander back and forth a bit till you find a lower speed it’s happy or manageable at. Best summer tire rear Toyo proxes track tire sticky equals grippy! Awesome handeling! Short lifespan even shorter than the Kendas

Question for you. Is the spyder f3 speedometer sensor on the front or back of the bike? If so, how far off would the speedo be if reading from the front rims if switched to 17s ?

I have a 2016 Can-Am Spyder RT I had the factory tire on here until I got to 12,000 miles I just put my second Tire on there have not changed my front tires yet still look good set my pressure at 30 psi lb all the way around I've never been a believer putting something on a vehicle does not require to have on there especially car tires if you maintain the pressure in the tires Ride Like You should BRP tires will last just as long as any other car Tire. Ride at your own risk if you do just be safe. Good video Drake topic🏍🏍🏍🏍

Car tyres do affect handling on a spyder. they make it handle better!! Spyders don't run motorcycle wheels, they are J type which is a car wheel so you will not have a bead issue. Motorcycle rules don't apply to a spyder. I have Federal Evo on the front of my F3s at 20psi and Kuhmo Ecsta at 25 on the rear. Don't recommend the Kuhmo in rain and I will be changing it to a Toyo more than likely. Always interesting to see how your Spyder holds up to being exposed to the elements..Keep up the content..

Hey Mate. I see a lot of Spyder owner videos of them using car tires. I can't remember seeing any videos of them having problems or issues with them. I'm sure there are some out there, I just can't remember seeing any. In fact I've seen a few Goldwings and big Harleys, using car tires as well, with very few issues. But I'm no expert, or even a Spyder owner, (,Yet😎). These comments aren't My opinions or facts, just my observations. Lol.😂😁😎. (Disclaimer) My future Spyder will however will be ryding on car tires. Great input of Spyder info, ( as usual). Keep on Spydering. Cheers Mate. 😎🇺🇲🇦🇺🦘

@@thegrumpyolgringo funny thing I found a tire Pirelli made specifically for the Lamborghini Countach. Its the exact size as the factory rear Spyder tire. I almost purchased one but figured they would be hard to locate in the future and date code on the tire. Those tires are cheaper than the factory kenda tyre. There's honestly no downside to car tires. I have found running lower pressure on the rear. Its mostly scare tactics to push the tire they've heavily invested in. .

I’ve never had an issue with the Kendas. I did have issue with the Khumo car tire. I just didn’t feel as good. I like the sure footed feel of the Kendas. I have over 500k miles on motorcycles and put close to 200k on Dunlops before I tried Avons. Such a better feel for the road I never went back to The harder Dunlop’s. I got 18-20k out of the Dunlop’s and maybe 14-15k from Avons or Bridgestones. Loved the feel and will never use a car tire rated for much heavier vehicles on a half ton Spyder.

Auto tires are going to outlast the Kenda stock tires. I used Kenda on my first trikes and they were basically junk. 14psi front and 24-25 on the rear and you will see 45-50k. BRP recommends 12.5 to 17 on the front and 28 rear which is too high on the rear but good on the front. Higher pressure will not only wear faster but handling will suffer. Always go low never go high.
@susierebelryder492

Motorcycle tires wear out faster because they have softer compound rubber so they have better traction due to the lighter weight on motorcycles.

I really doubt you put 12-14k miles a month on you tires! It’s a motorcycle and MC tires have much stickier rubber compound and will wear out faster. A sport bike tire lasts 5-6k miles. A touring bike tire will last 14-18k miles. The weight of the vehicle means the tire compound needs to be a certain type. The sensitivity of the traction system will sense slippage when using a car tire. When that happens, the bike will react and most likely go into limp home until you stop and reset it. Many riders are finding this out. We ride a one of a kind vehicle and there are not a lot of tire choices. If Bridgestone or Metzler make a tire for Spyders it will cost just as much if not more than a Kenda.
@spyderryder
@spyderryder 2 года назад
If I said a month that was wrong. At that point in time it was about 20k a year. I understand soft compounds that is why I moved away from MC tires on the Spyder.
@susierebelryder492
@susierebelryder492 2 года назад
@@spyderryder The reason for the softer compound is so the lighter weight motorcycles can stick the corners. The heavier the vehicle, the harder the compound. Quite a few Spyder owners are mentioning they have experienced slipping and some know that when the bike goes into limp home it’s because the tires lost traction in a corner.
@spyderryder
@spyderryder 2 года назад
@@susierebelryder492 it should never go into limp home mod just for loss of traction.
@susierebelryder492
@susierebelryder492 2 года назад
@@spyderryder You designed the Spyder? You know how the traction works? You wanna tell those that have experienced it that it “should t do it”??? I’m guessing you use cruise control when it rains? :-D
@spyderryder
@spyderryder 2 года назад
@@susierebelryder492 I did not but I have put over 150,000 miles on a Spyder and it does not work that way. I have ridden the Spyder very hard and never have done into limp home mod for losing traction. Now I have engaged stability control for losing traction which will limit power and apply brakes until you gain traction again.

Great explanation of the difference of car tires and motorcycle tires. I believe that Can Am, had a tire company create a special tire made only for the Spyder, which cost them a ton money. Now they have to scare you into believing, that their tires are the only ones safe to Ryde with. Pretty good little scam if you ask me. Lol.😁. My future Spyder will however will be ryding on car tires. 😎. Thanks for the input. Stay Alert. Ryde Safe in a fun way. Thanks for sharing. Keep on Spydering. 😎.
