Here is a classic shoulder impingement problem where the rotator cuff is getting jammed in the shoulder from tightness and a lack of cuff muscle and tendon strength, as well as control. Understand how the impingement occurs and the 3 simple starting rehab exercises to help.

Thank God for "Revisit"! I have watched several of your videos on this topic, and it has been fantastic learning about the rotator cuff. If only I had found them earlier, since I have had problems with both my shoulders. It started 7 years ago with a bad dislocation which I don't believe was properly diagnosed, resulting in a torn subscapularis tear this year. In week 12 now, and you have helped me understand the importance of rebuilding the mechanics of the shoulder joint. Last year I had a fracture on my other shoulder, which probably didn't get the rehab it should have, so I am doing a bit REVISITING on it too. Thank you for all your sound advice.

Crazy, this happens to me. After injuries (slap II tear followed by surgery) and working out using wrongly my shoulder for avoiding pain led me to this

Excellent video but in all reality how does someone at home make sure their technique is correct without a physio behind them, analyzing them and correcting them?
@Nosor1989
@Nosor1989 7 лет назад
Well. Some things must be done under an eye of a phisiotherapist.

Thanks Captain Obvious.... You're probably not aware but generally physios will give patients home exercises. Pretty sure the physio isn't going to come home with a patient to watch them do the exercises every day.

As a a therapist you make sure you review the HEP with the pt to ensure they are doing it correctly. You can review the HEP during their progress note or when you are getting ready to discharge them.

Yeah, and what if the physio doesn’t know his/her stuff. I’ve been complaining about my shoulders /scapula now for 6+ years never showed any pathology until this year now I have two supraspinatus tears and impingement. I’ve been to many PTs and not one has really even focused on my shoulders. I keep saying my scapula feels like they’re stuck that they’re crashing into bone, I’ve only had two PT’s that have looked at my back w/o my shirt on at my request. They didn’t see anything. It’s a struggle trying to find someone to help you when you know what’s wrong, but they have their own opinion about things.

How is the assessment of a shoulder impingement as opposed to a rotator cuff tear made ?
@physiorehab

By seeing a physio!

I have a question - If the one arm press feels too difficult - that is, if I’m struggling to keep my arm straight throughout even while focusing on doing so - should I move to a more basic move first like practicing keeping the shoulder in the proper placement while raising and lowering the arm? The video you have with the arm raises against the wall (with a towel under the palm of the hand and applying a bit of pressure to make sure the joint is sitting properly) makes it clear that my shoulder is wobbling in and out of place - should I improve that awareness before moving on to this? I don’t want to make it worse by doing this improperly. Thank you!!!

@@physiorehab Have booked a consultation with you 😊 Isn't it difficult to assess someone's pathology without doing physical tests that require the manipulation from a physiotherapist?🤔

but when I do this exercise it pains a lot, it almost forces me to not to move my arm, its so painful, shall I keep doing the exercise ignoring the pain or shall I do something else. I have the same shoulder impingement issue caused due to swimming.

Wonderful video, thank you, I've discovered from watching the video that I've the same instability with my right shoulder blade. Been assed by physios before and they didn't spot it. I've a impingement in my right shoulder that flares up when surfing alot. I understand it would be dependant on the person, however, would you have a ball park to how many reps of each exercise and number of times a day to be done? Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the videos, I have this exact problem do you know roughly how many weeks or months it might take someone with rotator cuff impingement to build up their impinged arm to be equal with the other
@physiorehab

It all depends on the problem and the patient but rough ballpark is 3-4 month s

I’ve been rehabbing for a year. Small retear of Supraspinatus and a small labral tear. I can do most things without pain. I still Can’t press overhead though 🤷‍♂️
@liamlane8157

Jeffrey Quinonez can you do most weighted training excluding overhead press tho?

Liam Lane i can do 10 pushups. I weight 215🤷‍♂️. Idk what it means but im able to do it. The next day my right shoulder feels sore as hell though. This is after being diagnosed with a torn labrum again and rotator cuff small tear. I already had surgery i. The past to repair both. My strength is coming back but not%100. And my shoulder just feels weird and uncomfortable. The movement and range of motion feels restricted and unnatural. Stilll good enough to work though. I just have to me aware of my body positioning and such. I try to keep my shoulders in proper position and move in rhe correct way whenever i do anything strenuous

I havent done regular gym exercises since i got reinjured so i dont know how i do in bench presses dumbell presses etc. i just know i can do pushups and thats half range because my physical therapist told me to don pushups off a wall and only the top half range of motion. I still tried the regular style cuz i was feeling good. Inflammation the next day is still a bitch though 🤷‍♂️
