Shovelhead and ironhead intake seal replacement, and underlying symptoms. 

You can check your panhead the same way. But it will be a lot different to change the seals.

@@DWchopshop got it. I haven’t taken the intake apart yet. It’s an early 90’ S&S motor. It has the S&S super B and Intake that looks exactly like your video. Will it really be that different?

@ScrewyLuie73 ohh I see. I thought you had a legitimate panhead. The s&s motors have a lit of changes to make them more dependable. I've never worked on one, but it might not be that different. It's just nuts and bolts. If you need any help let me know.

That sleeve is for a later type of intake seal. some guys double them up and use the O-ring and the sleeve. But you should only need the O ring. There's also been all sorts of aftermarket kits made over the years that use all sorts of O ring or plastic parts and sleeves that "guarantee" a seal. What year bike are you working on?

Intake leaks in general are weird. You could have tweaked something while taking the carb off. Did you replace the O-rings on the back of your carb and the s&s spacer gasket? Is the gasket facing the right way? It's o-ring should be towards the manifold. Start with what you messed with, take that carb off, take it apart, and give it another good once over. If everything looks okay, put some ear plugs in, kick her over, and spray some starting fluid around the rear carb seal and intake manifold seals and see if your idle changes. You have too much air or fuel or both and need to figure out which one and where it's coming from.

@@DWchopshop appreciate the reply! Replaced the bottom end with a different carb and now it's fine, hard to start but idles perfect. Something is going on with the accelerator pump I thing. Going to soak the "bad one" in parts cleaner overnight. I will check my rings again though, just in case. Thanks man

You can visit S&S website and get a pdf tech manual on the super E. It walks through factory settings for the acc. Pump, and how to tune it from that point.

Finally got it and I dont know how. Soak it for a few hours today. Still rough trying to start her up, take 6 kicks, maybe more. Good idle though. Now I have to find out how to get a one kick bike.

I like oem seals, they are fast and easy, and if yourbheads are clocked they seal fine. I have taken bikes apart that have all sorts of seals mixed up on the manifold lol. So yeah I'm sure you can, but its not a best practice 😂

Just make sure they are Vinton o-rings. Normal.black rubber will break down with contact from fuel.
