"Love And Rockets" is a great name! I bought Music For Mechanics: A Love And Rockets Collection, my first reading of the series, at my first comic book convention. I am also envious of the logo design on the Fantagraphics reprint.

Great episode. My brother was the CRACKED fan in the house and that's my earliest memory of Clowes work for sure. Love these show and tell episodes.

Just discovered Mister X by Los Bros Hernandez recently and even though they despise it, it was eye-opening and very influential for me. Jaime background work and the way he draws women is amazing in that early work!

I just found Floyd in a box of randoms I bought from someone a couple months ago. I had never read this work so I was amazed when I opened it and saw who it was, looked into it and saw it was his first published work. What a find. :)

Or maybe it was a dollar bin - I can't remember. I found this and I found Mike Allred's first in the same week - one was from a box of randos and one was from the dollar bin. Awesome finds.

Mort Todd also did the original artwork for the first 3 Back from the Grave compilations from Crypt records in the eighties.

I grew up going to Ralph's Comic Corner in Ventura - Supposedly, Ralph was the guy who suggested to the Oxnard local Hernandez Brothers that they send their stuff over to Fantagraphics.

Nice to see my old copy of Floyd Farland on screen, ha! Nice call on the Dean Motter reference, I always thought there was some relation to Mister X, which also saw some art by Jaime of course!

Puts me in mind of the first time I saw a copy of Love and Rockets and how my jaw dropped a little more with each turn of the page. How about Mr X ? A work of genius I think
@CartoonistKayfabe
@CartoonistKayfabe 5 лет назад
Mr. X is dope. We don't use the word "genius" lightly, in the Kayfabe universe, but los. bros did some fun stuff on those first batch of issues.

@@CartoonistKayfabe ok, that's fair. And you're right it was only those first 6 or 7 that really killed

The true to form thing to do would be list all these cool but cheap comics at inflated eBay prices, timed after each episode drops." Collecting comics in the late 20teens"
