Thanks for this excellent podcast. After seeing it, I fell more in love with my Gen1 846. It's such a good headset that it's almost unbeatable. Shure hit the pinnacle with the 846 10 years ago! And above the summit: the sky!! GRACIAS!!!

In your review you talk about the two new colors anodized aluminum outer shell, does this mean 'Real' aluminum outer shell? or plastic with a coating that looks like?

@tihochen7537
@tihochen7537 Год назад
I have been tried the new se846 gen2 in my local retailer, i owned the gen1 846. In my opinion gen2 had small sound quality updated compare with gen1, and the price wroth it. In other hand, i won't recommend who owned the gen1 to for this updated. BUT still 846 are great choice for who did not have IEM.
@dre32181
@dre32181 Год назад
There’s no difference between the gen 1 and the gen 2 except the red filter. If you liked the gen 1 with a certain filter, you can use that same filter with gen 2 to achieve the same sound.

more than 15 years in the world of audio and more than 100s earphones and headphones of the most expensive types in the world, I think that the SE846 is one of the highest ratings among them if it is and still is the best. It is a difficult number to be overcome. I can't wait to get my SE846 (2nd generation)
@pageegap1
@pageegap1 Год назад
but is sounds like the gen 2 is essentially the same plus a new "nozzle"?
@ecoustics
@ecoustics Год назад
@@pageegap1 yes, drivers and dimensions are the same. Red filter is new, which changes sound signature, along with new exterior colors.

Stick with. I am, and I think they are bloody brilliant (I use the "warm", black filters.) There's no way I am gonna cough up £900 for such a minor upgrade, and I don't need another filter.

Will the new red filter also work (acoustically) with the SE846 1st gen?

Yes, the red filter will work with 1st gen, but you can't buy it separately.

Yes
@eldar68
@eldar68 Год назад
So as a prospective first time buyer, and considering getting gen 2, what are the chances that you will repeat the same practice with some gen 3 and expect people to upgrade for exactly the same product except for a filter. Shure should definitely make filters available for a standalone purchase, and for a reasonable price. Please show some respect to your consumers.
@atomabc
@atomabc Месяц назад
Very well said. I have the Gen 1. The Gen 2 just an extra filter and a colour change incorporating a viewing window. They should just sell the filter separately. The 846 is though, an unbelievable headphone. I also have the Beyerdynamic Amiron, over ears headphones. They said the best headphones, full stop. But lack bass. The 846, an all rounder.

I have owned nearly all of the Shure IEM models through two decades (e3, e5, se530, se425, se535m se846, kse1500) and I feel that's pretty GREEDY / SHADY to not offer the filter or replacement filters (pieces of plastic) to first gen owners. Shure is a great company on many product support fronts - reputation is everything. Sean's reaction to the question says it all i.e. he knows they are being greedy for short term profits verses long term brand equity.

Agree. Not sure why it can’t be sold separately.

So in short, i have paid 200$ more for a gen2 instead of the gen one so that make this filter a 200$ filter ! and at the end, i need the bright one when i play on stage !

@@ecoustics The information was spread very thin and was basically available for over 10 years already, since this is the same earphone that released over 10 years ago. I get that it's probably still a pretty good earphone, but we have stage monitors and audiophile iems with 12, or even 18 BAs in them now and they also come with customizable filters. The tech has evolved quite substantially at this point and I feel like the interviewers were not even trying to at least compare these to newer models of in ear phones to the se846, or to ask the shure guy about shures stance on the industry moving on from low count BA designs, or even into hybrid, tribrid, quadbrid designs, planar drivers, etc. What is Shures opinion of these developments in the market? Did they compare their earphone to these new models? Why did they decide not to develop new tech? Why did your review guy tell us that it's worth it to buy a new replacement filter for 900 dollars? And why won't they sell it on it's own? A company should be ready to answer these questions and you as a channel should be ready to ask them. This video is just a circle-jerk for a full price re-release of a very old product. It's not amazing anymore, that they fit 4 BAs into an iem. These earphones do not exist in a vacuum. I am not saying they are bad or good or anything like that, everyone has their own opinion, but you're not even trying to make shure define theirs. To the contrary, you reinforce it by ommiting the actual market development at that point in time. This is my problem with this video. It's very uninteresting to listen to, the points made could be summed up in a 3 minute trailer.
