Sorry the original song is French, "comme d'habitude" lyrics by Claude François and music by Jacques Revaux. The heirs are cashing in the copyrights by millions ! Sid Vicious did the best cover and video clip, "killing" the audience at the Olympia, Paris, at the end, so funny !
+redospure jim morrison could sing and write.so no,i wasnt talking abt jim. sex pistols purposley turnd off sids bass cause he couldnt play.all he was was a stage attraction.he like i said...was the best musician who couldnt play
+redospure Quite a few similarities there actually (see my comment above about how they are both often mistaken for the actors who expertly played them in 80's movies). Altho I have enjoyed both of their music and stage presence, I have to agree - Morrison might not have been the best singer of his era (still better than 99% of the horseshit being sold today tho) but in addition to his amazing stage presence he was definitely one hell of a poet/lyricist.
+A. Nonny Mouse It was Sid too. I've read a few accounts of people in and associated with the band reporting this. To be fair tho he learned to play specifically so he could be in the band and had only been playing somewhere around a month before they hit the road on his first tour with the band. Apparently he learned pretty quick to play well enough that a short time later, just before they broke up, he was actually playing on the road. Also, it's not like anyone in that band was a gifted musician - Punk Rock in general, especially the first wave in the '70's, was characterized by pretty shitty musicianship.
My Mother is the woman playing Sid's Mum in the audience in this video. She was made bed-bound 5 years ago and its been my pleasure to be her carer through that time. She passed away back on the 11th of this month (11/12/2022). I will miss her a lot.
My condolences! My father passed a few years ago and we feel his absence daily, so I thought I'd extend my sympathies to you and your family. It's cool that your mother got to take part in something so culturally significant! My mother would probably be a tad jealous, she is a sex pistols fan and laments the fact that she was born too late to ever be able to see them in concert (not that they would've ever come to our tiny country).
I'm sorry to hear that your mom passed. It's very cool that she took part in this. She must have been a cool mom. I love exposing my kids to punk, I find the humor in it makes us all laugh and takes some of the seriousness out of parenting. Sending healing thoughts to you and yours. I hope you all are well in spite of your loss.
LEONARD COHEN ABOUT SID VICIOUS: "I never liked this song [“My Way”] except when Sid Vicious did it. Sung straight, it somehow deprives the appetite of a certain taste we’d like to have on our lips. When Sid Vicious did it, he provided that other side to the song; the certainty, the self- congratulation, the daily heroism of Sinatra’s version is completely exploded by this desperate, mad, humorous voice. I can’t go round in a raincoat and fedora looking over my life saying I did it my way - well, for 10 minutes in some American bar over a gin and tonic you might be able to get away with it. But Sid Vicious’s rendition takes in everybody; everybody is messed up like that, everybody is the mad hero of his own drama. It explodes the whole culture this self-presentation can take place in, so it completes the song for me."
Frank Sinatra commented on this performance, saying he truly loved it. Sid Vicious really embodied punk music. I’ve got a huge poster of him on my wall, he’s a legend.
Was also a sad out-of-place kid with a very sad childhood (read Jah Wobble's book), later a heroin addict who ended up stabbing his girlfriend to death. In other words, by the end of his life had become an asshole. May still fit the "legend" category, I suppose, if you stretch it.
This is unironically the best version of this song. It really, truly is. Sid doesn't just sing it, he performs it. He inhabits it. He IS the song. He brings so much passion and honesty to it. This man really could have been something special had he not gone out the way he did.
Thank U 4 that suggestion Nina Simone's will likely remain my all-Time Favorite alongside Sid's Willie's... i just learned about "Danzig Sings Elvis" also fun, COVER-UP by Ministry and Co-Conspirators @@eamylord
All the while doing a desperate pastiche of Johnny Rotten… No, he was never destined for “something special” - Oh, unless you mean “had he not gone out the way he did”? I agree, that WAS “something special”… 😂✌🏾❣️ P.S. How old are you? Where are you from? Just trying to get a handle on your informed opinion🙏🏾❣️
@@janetaylor-powell Johnny disagrees. See his end thoughts. You are a fucking clown who the fuck are you to dictate who and who did not have potential. He died 45 years ago and somehow here you are on his song, not Johnny. not the Sex Pistols. so piss off cunt
The way he sings the intro in such a beautifully sarcastic way hits me quite emotionally considering little did he know he would meet the final curtain about a year after..
Leonard Cohen said of the song: "I never liked this song except when Sid Vicious did it. Sid Vicious’s rendition takes in everybody; everybody is messed up like that, everybody is the mad hero of his own drama."

I lost my Dad which was the hardest thing in my life ! He choose this song as his funeral song ! He is a legend ! Edit ; I've only just been back to this ! The furneral was all black and white but his closest had union jack ties . I'm sure he loves it everyone cried and laughed ! It was him ! I did him proud xx Thankyou xxxxx
what makes me sad is that he never got any kind of happy ending. his girlfriend dies, he's accused of murder, he's sent to prison, has one suicide attempt, and then overdoses a few days later. poor sod.
He said that he was going to live his life the way he wanted to, but he didn't. He was just a poor heroin slave who was never happy at all. I feel kinda bad for him.
@@kristianbejb ah okay. Doesn't surprise though. The director also directed a documentary on the famous shit throwing punk rocker GG Alin. The director for sure is inspired a lot by punk rock culture
You have a delicious sensa humour. One of 4 mebe even 4 of fore . Play ........ .. .gittar? Bass? Or go fish? Bowl?this to the SAVVY response above myine. Pun intended. But , I'm married so don't blame me when I say no thank you. Just kitten
Since the machine won't let me edit, all of a sudden, this is to Fran boy? And it was Portland, CT. Junior high. They changed the name to Portland middle School and has a huge new sign . P M S PM's. Honest now, that's stupid and or a lot sick. Yes? PMS.
Whatever game we're all playing in this world, you just won it with that comment. Laughed to tears, and I'm not even sure why. And, what a perfect song for mocking. It's the pompous egotistical anthem of every oligarch that punks hate. Thanks, Sid. You fixed the song.
@@AzuraVasquez They were not world famous while he was alive though. Just a scene that they were a part of. They did not get anywhere near as much attention from the main stream until after Sid murdered his junky girlfriend and then got a hot shot from his awesome Mother. I mean, no matter how cool people think he was, for some really unknown reason, he was a loser, with a loser mentality, and a heroin addiction to help out with it. So...yeah. world famous, lol. You know, that history and ignorance of it and all that. Good luck kiddie
Definitely my m8, but most of us control that crazy side, he didn't an died at 21 but will always be a fuckin ledgend of not giving a fuck!! He did it his way!!! 👍👌
What's ironic about it? I mean, maybe the video is ironic in the sense that I think he really meant it and his audience would assume it was a lot of joking. But the song is about an artist at the end of his career looking back on his life. Sid died. This is quite certainly the most unironic punk song of all time.
@@andreesengillies4427 the irony resides in the fact that the song was written by Paul Anka and Sang by Frank Sinatra which was a completely different era and genre of music while Sid and Sex Pistols fell into punk rock and he still ended killing the song
@@fvgc454ssyes he stubbed his girfriend at a Hotel in Chelsea New York. I saw the hotel one month ago when I payed a visit to New York. Sad story,he must have been very sick
there are many things that piss me off in life. one of the biggest is when people say Sid Vicious had no talent. this is one of the most iconic live performances ever. sid looked and sounded amazing. he took the weight of a whole counter culture on his frail junkie shoulders and paid the the price. but make no mistake, he was great. long after you and i are dust people will still be watching this...rip SID
The other day, I realized how really crazy but brilliant of an idea covering this was - on the level of Wilson Pickett covering Hey Jude. It matched if not exceeded the original and all at the same time is a parody, update, and final testament to Sid.
So here were are, in January, 2020 and I still absolutely, positively, unequivocally love this rendition of "my way"" RIP Sid. You're still awesome!!!!
"To think, I killed a cat, and may I say, not in a gay way" Maybe not ironic in his mind, but for me it is, and is thus my favourite lyric of all time.
Yeah it wasn't a joke. Heres a story from his flatmate. "One night I went round and saw Sid, and there was a cat that was in the flat. And for no reason he decided to put a noose around the cat and hang it up in front of me... ...it didn't last long as far as ticks on the clock but it seemed like an eternity. The cat was struggling and was trying to get away but obviously it couldn't. It was whining. It was absolutely fighting to get away and just before it passed away, it urinated and defacated right on his feet. Sid was holding it in front of me. I utterly regret not stopping him doing that. Why he did that, I don't know. I have no idea, it's the most disgusting thing that I have seen in my life. If I could have my life over again, I would've stopped him from doing it. It was horrible... ...we finally put the cat in a plastic bag and took it to the bin downstairs."
SID VICIOUS' VERSION WAS THE BEST VERSION OF ''MY WAY''!!! HIS RENDITION WAS SO ENTERTAINING, NOT BORING!!! HE MADE THE SONG TRULY HIS OWN!!! you bet!!!
he got onstage and did a shitty cover... the Pistols were GREAT at shitty covers... like their cover of the WHO's "Substitute". Sid didnt WRITE The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, Malcolm McLaren did.
This cover sums up Sid's short life really, it was messed up, it got butchered and ruined. But it still ended up being legendary just like him. Rest in piece Sid , you really did it your way
My all time favourite punk song ever and for those that say he could'nt sing or play, thats kinda the point of British punk, fuck it, get up and do it if you have the bollocks, he did and thats why hes a fucking legend, Sid will never die!!!!!!!
Actually, there was the top of the pops, the oldest ancestor of Mtv. But the videos they played weren't music videos, i would describe it more as a visualised version of the song. It was called "Promotion Clips" back then and the bands didn't get paid for the network to play their promotion clips. The only benefit of this was that hopefully someone would see your face on tv and go buy your record.
Bullshit heroin doesn't give you confidence like that. Maybe not you because drugs effect different people in different ways, but opiates always made me feel like king of the world. Been clean since 2012 and never want to go back to using, but I can't lie when I say I miss the confidence I had when I used. Stimulants for me never had that affect. Always made me paranoid instead. But I have known people that did feel that way on them. But yeah opiates definitely have that affect on some people.
Definitely my favourite version of this song. Of course the original is best but the boldness of this I just love it especially when the rock kicks in absolutely brilliant he certainly did it his way
I grew up with him as my idol. He never ever fell in line. When they said jump he didn't ask them how high, he firmly planted himself. Ultimate resistance.
He sings some songs in the rock in roll swindle soundtrack but same, it’s hard to accept someone like him is dead, he lived a hard life and he died so young
He certainly shines at times and I feel sad for him.Sid really had the odds stacked against him for most of his short life but managed to send a strong message to the conformist he despised.I guess that was you don't have to have talent and kiss butt to be an entertainer, you just have to perform.
He sings three songs in the Rock'n'roll Swindle movie. This song also was part of an album called Sid Sings. Although his album hit number 30 on the charts, it's considered to be rare today.
There's a good reason why you shivering. We easily could've had the greatest punk artist or at least performer but unfortunately sid just ended up being wasted potential.
When I was 12 , living in Syd AUS , i had a pic /poster on my wall of Sid Vicious that said - I've only ever fallen in love twice in my life , once with a beer bottle and once with a mirror ..... Haha
FRIENDS, IF YOU TAKE SERIOUSLY TO THIS ANIMAL, SELF-DESTRUCTIVE AND NEGATIVE TO BE A MUSICIAN AND CRITICIZE IT AS SUCH, YOU DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING OF MUSIC, YOU ARE PUBLISHED BUT MUSIC DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING, CONTINUE TO COME FUCKING AS THE PUNK WAS
They literally had this in a karaoke machine at a wedding I went to. Did the full Sid Vicious impersonation. Was epic. The crowd absolutely just rocked big time. No joke. It happened. Bloody amazing. ❤❤❤❤
Sinatra died almost 20 years after Sid. They were living at the same time but probably very different lifestyles. It’s wonderful how they still managed to communicate through music. Beautiful ♥️
Nobody has ever understood your scream your anger broken by a melancholy irony. Tomorrow is your birthday and I hope you have finally found the peace you were looking for. good punk SID.
way back in 1978 it was my favourite version and now looking back at it now the video is a classic still love it the music is brilliant with the orchestra included as well r.i.p. Sid and cheers to John Lyndon
My grandad was disgusted when we saw this on the telly. I remember it well. Never seen him so mad. And yet I was fascinated as a 7 year old boy from London. The Pistols were polarising alright. What a time. Shook the status quo to its very core. But as much as I was fascinated by The Sex Pistols, it was promptly forgotten in the early 80s for me when Madness, Depeche Mode, Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Blondie we’re around. Loved Gary Oldman playing Sid in the “Sid & Nancy” film from the early 80s. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend you go seek it out.
@@kiickinballistics never forgotten the PistOls. Best thing that ever happened to me. Got Steve Jones' towel fae when they played Loch Lomond 2008. Great day! 😀
I was a huge fan of the Sex Pistols in high school, I have seen the 1986 movie Sid & Nancy many times. Gary Oldman was awesome, he always is, he's a great actor, but nobody else could have been Sid in this movie.

To cover a classic and do it justice, you must own it- or in Sids case beat the shit out of it and then kill it. This is still for me - perversely - the only version to equal Sinatras.
Totally agree. It's the 2nd best rendition of the song and the into. is completely killer. It's emotionally engaging and the vocals are - what's the word - unapologetic. It wasn't so much punk against the world as Sid against the world. People need to remember when this was shot/recorded and the context. Yes...I'm old.
