I own the HK MR762A1, LMT L129A1, KAC SR25, FN SCAR 17s NRCH, and SIG MCX SPEAR (308). They are all fantastic! The people who say one is better than the other have never shot all of them. I have more than 3k rounds through all of them except for the MCX SPEAR(I’ve only had it a few months) and they are all fantastic. None of them do anything better than the others, they all are great. The people in here talking bad about FN have never put enough rounds and probably never actually owned one. When you buy a gun you should enjoy it and have fun not try to shit on it because it’s not perfect for you. Every one of these have downfalls. Please 2a community just enjoy what you are able to purchase and have fun!

Fn lost me on the scar when customer service said it’s not recommended for civilians to run a suppressor on the 308 if it’s not properly tuned, you can destroy your gun….. The KAC shoots amazing!! The recoil is good but the overall feel is just another AR10 feel. The MCX shoots great the recoil is definitely felt(once again I haven’t put enough rounds to say it bad or good) but it feels so good in your hands! Honestly you can’t go wrong with either. Same. I went with the SCAR 17 and I love my SCAR 16. Yes, I replaced both triggers with the Geissele Super-SCAR trigger as that is the only true shortcoming the SCAR system has. The MCX Spear has several QA/QC issues like the mag insertion, causing jams/inoperability, and the barrel bending/canting are major issues compared to the aesthetic issues that are mentioned about the SCAR.

@@kylebeckman1398 I would add MREX II rails to 17 and 16 if you're running full length barrel, just to prevent shifting POI when resting the rifle against something. @brighthought11 LMT is also a top-quality rifle, and no one can honestly argue against that, regardless of taste. I mention the B&T as its build quality is absolutely top class in every possible respect; so it counts down to design, and it's easier to handle due to its dimensions, and the buffer system is unique and is this softer shooting than the others, including LMT. Actually, it's what the Scar should have become.. plus it's metal, a sub MIA weapon.. and the barrel is 19"... so the range is there, also. In Europe it's about €5.000, which is 2.500 to 3.000 cheaper than the Scar and Sig respectively.

Another point in favor of the Spear is that Sig said they would be releasing barrels in multiple lengths in 6.5 Creedmoor and .277 Fury for it. But they haven't yet. If they ever do the ease of changing a barrel on the Spear will make it that much better than it already is. I think they even said all three calibers can run on the same springs so all you need to change is the barrel. Same bolt, same recoil springs. If I am remembering correctly.

@darthhodges

@@user-cz3dn9nl6j But how hard is it to take the barrel off? What other parts do you have to change to convert calibers? Those are relevant to the point I was making. Assuming Sig ever actually makes and sells the replacement barrels. If they stay vaporware then it remains advantage FN since they do sell those parts, regardless of how hard it is to change them.

@KeterMalkuth
@KeterMalkuth 2 месяца назад
Accuracy, not so much. Velocity though, yes. The M7/SPEAR system isn't actually that accurate as they're issued. Anywhere from 2-5 MOA, depending on barrel wear. I'm sure the cartridge is capable of better than that, but I don't see a reason it would be an inherently more accurate cartridge.
@kevinclapson
@kevinclapson 2 месяца назад
@@KeterMalkuth 2-3 moa (prior to heavy barrel wear) is in keeping with most combat rifles so that's really a moot point. Concerning accuracy of the cartridge, it being such a flat shooting round I don't see why it wouldn't be more inherently accurate than 308. Would be nice to see some head to heads between the two.
@memorris2
@memorris2 2 месяца назад
@KeterMalkuth i was speaking about accuracy beyond the 5.56 on a point target range. The garand thumb video showed that while the moa in normal 5.56 range was 2 -5 moa, the .277 was performing extremely well out to the 700yds distance with barely any hold over.

I own both of these. The scar has a cool factor that will never be topped, it’s a pure drip, but it’s antiquated. The spear is much better to live with. If the spear is a 9.8, the scar is a 9.4 for me. The scar can’t be suppressed well and voids your warranty. It eats optics. Mags are basically proprietary. The scar tax is real. But it is forever cool.
@JohnZ556
@JohnZ556 3 месяца назад
To be fair, he definitely already voided his warranty(so do most FN users) by changing out the end plate and stock. And a hard end plate will slowly cant the screws over time. While I don't agree with FN, I suppress my SCARs anyway, and I just make sure they aren't running over gassed. To save you a minute, here's what FN says: 'Any addition to your FN firearm of aftermarket accessories (such as suppressors, triggers, muzzle devices, stocks, etc.) is considered a modification of your firearm from its original configuration, which may void your warranty.'

I own a number of 308 semi-auto rifles including Armalite, PSA, LMT, KAC, FN SCAR 17s and 20, and the Sig Spear. My thoughts: -A "quick change" barrel is just silly. It introduces a failure point where it is not needed. If one wants a different caliber, simply push two pins and replace the upper, or grab a different rifle entirely. -Accuracy wise: KAC, LMT, FN,: All more accurate than me and sub moa in my experience. The PSA and Armalite are more for plinking and don't have the accuracy of the others, but are perfectly acceptable for hunting and defensive applications at a fraction of the cost. -I feel a disadvantage of the SCAR is the FN mags. They're fairly pricey and proprietary. The others take P-Mags and Lancers. M-14/M1A mags are also proprietary, along with the HK-762. This just makes the FN, HK, and M1A more expensive, although I do own them.

They have advantages with some platforms. The Scar upper is serialized and frankly full uppers are not sold and are super expensive but you can buy barrel assemblies. It's also handy for replacing barrels when burned up vs buying a bunch of tools or sending in to a shop...which I've done

I lean towards the MCX for its versatility and sleek design, but the Scar's reputation for ruggedness is hard to ignore.

I want the Spear over the SCAR anytime. Ever since FN switched to the non reciprocating charging handle that helped significantly, but from a parts standpoint I choose the Spear

I don't care for either of the above rifles, but I do have an LMT MWS 308 (L129A1), which is multi-caliber via a quick barrel change and very accurate. The only downfall of the LMT is the weight, which does help with recoil and as a SASS it's an outstanding rifle.

@@oskar6661 i've had the LMT since 2018, so it was a bit less than it's current price. I'm pretty sure that the FN & Sig still cost more now than the LMT, but in the same ballpark.

@@alexlevinson8629 Gassy? What suppressor were you using? I hope you don't mean it was gassy unsuppressed because that sounds like an entirely different issue, and not a problem I have. I won't argue with you on the recoil, especially when shooting 175 gr SMK's.

@@92naz32 I was running an Sig srd762, and even with a CGS it was still a bit gassy. It’s a GREAT platform, but if I had the choice between the scar, the sr25, the lmt, and the spear, I’d choose the scar, then the sr25, then the lmt, and finally the spear. I’m not a fan of the Sig shit

I have a Scar 17S with over 4500 rds down the pipe. I know I can depend on it out to 750 yards before the transonic wobble. Even with all those rounds she still groups 1-1.25MOA at 100. I am curious what the accuracy and ballistics of the MCX is at 750 yards and at 100 yards.

I've always loved SCAR, but in the end, I just liked the Sig Spear rifle more. I also have a soft spot for Sig Sauer. I've always loved their guns. I also have a problem of being different. If every one prefers one top choice over another, I always end up going for the one that isn't the choice for some. Not by choice for me, just how it works out. The brain plays tricks on ya. One day I could end up with a SCAR as well. But, this Sig is so sexy. I just picked mine up. I like the weight and everything else about it. Plenty of reviews that like it convinced me it's worth the money. Being kidless and single forever, why not? Not gonna live forever anyways.

I think a Scar in .277 would be my pick. Hopefully someone makes a conversion kit at some point. If FN could bring down the price to be more competitive with all the scar clones, then the rifle would be perfect.

I have the sig tread snakebite se in 308. It’s an ar10. A lot cheaper and works for what I need it. If I got one of these it be the sig. I hate the scar just ugly heavy and not my thing. The only other sig I will buy is the 300 blk out rattler or whatever the new version is called.

I know you can not compare all the dmr, but the HK G28 ot whatever the name the us army version uses for sniper and DMR seem to be a good alternative, piston driven, free floating barrel etc. What do you rhink about it?

It seems cool and like a pretty good gun by man I just can't see the Spear being the new US Military service rifle. Maybe the LT version but I feel like we have an AK-12 situation here. Where we have a very hyped up rifle used by a military only for it to fail spectacularly
