This is my “How To” conversion of the 2019-2022 front end big brakes for the NBS GM truck.This applies to GMT 800: 1999-2007 Classic, GMT 900: 2007-2013/14. 1500s ONLY. Will NOT work on 2500/3500's. Must have 17in wheels or larger.
Parts:
POWER STOP 162173 Brake Pads
Z16 Evolution Clean Ride Ceramic
www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....
(This comes in a 4 pack, only order QTY.1)
GM GENUINE 1771270 Rotor (13.6" Diameter)
Non Drilled/Slotted
www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....
(You will need to order Qty.2)
M14 Stainless Steel Flat Washers
www.amazon.com/Stainless-Stee...
(You need QTY.4)
For the calipers these are going to be a little challenging to find. The part numbers are constantly getting discontinued or changing. I ordered mine through a GM auto parts center, local to me. They had a master system, that could check every auto parts store, GM dealer, and GM warehouse. They found my calipers in stock two states away, and had them shipped to their location for local pickup.
You can always try a local dealer, but they will be expensive. I paid $80 a caliper.
Rockauto gets them in stock randomly, but they sell out fast!
or you can try Stockwiseauto.com they say they are in stock, but don't show pictures. so I cannot guarantee this is a good source.

ACDelco 172-2883 Disc Brake Caliper (Right, Passenger Side)

Alternate Caliper Part Numbers, Try: 13536579(Left) and 13536580(Right)
or 13545382 and 13545383
(Verified by a subscriber)
ACDELCO Caliper Mounting Bolt
www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....
(You can re-use your stock bolts. These are if you want to switch the factory T55 bolt out for a 18mm Hex head bolt. Which is less likely to strip, un-like the T55)

@@TheKingCoopa I also heard that the 2000-2021 years Silverados, Tahoe's, Suburbans come with a 6 piston front caliper with a 13.5" rotor which also directly bolt up with just adding a 1/2 inch washer to space the caliper out to align with the rotor. The braking power is suppose to be a lot better over this upgrade, I am strongly thinking about upgrading again to these year brakes. Hey, sorry for the late reply! I just went to the local auto zone, and told them I wanted two rear calipers for a 2004 Yukon. I think I said 4x4 and the 5.3 or 6.0. they pulled the picture up, I just made sure they were dual piston. They brought them out, and I double checked they caliper bracket bolt holes lined up, and I was good. They even used my old calipers as a core charge, so it was pretty cheap. I did buy new pads for the 04 Yukon calipers, and I kept the Silverado rotors for the rear. I hope that helps you out, sorry I don't have part numbers for them. Glad your wheels cleared haha. Great vid! ill be upgrading on a 2001 yukon. You don't want your wheels to lock up actually because then they are going to slide and not stop you, you do want the ABS to kick in and pulsate when you slam on the breaks! Does your ABS not kick in at all with this upgrade?
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa Год назад
Hey, my ABS doesn't kick on at all. Being a mild cam, I have lower vacuum pressure. Plus more brake pistons, and large 22s. I definitely lost breaking power. So I'll be doing the hydroboost swap.

Great job I've commented before and have 2 questions today, for my 2004 Silverado 1500 2wd rear brakes that are the single piston disc set up to do the upgrade to the 2 piston set up would I want to get them from a 4wd or 2wd donor because there is a different part number for each. Second question, I've never heard anyone talk about swaping master cylinders after upgrading to the 4 piston front and 2 piston rear brakes, do the 2019 and up donor trucks run 2 piston rear disc brakes?
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa Год назад
Hey, sorry for the extremely late reply!! For the rear dual pistons, I went with the 4wd yukon calipurs. Mainly because mine is a 4wd as well. But i honestly don't think it matters much. The hydroboost will beable to apply more pressure than a brake booster can. Plus ontop of the a large choppy camshaft will have more LSA, lobe separation angle, which gives you less vacuum pressure. Less vacuum pressure on a brake booster means less stopping power. And the 2019-2023 silverados rear calipurs are single piston units. Its a little late, hope that helps. Thanks for the support!!!

@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 2 года назад
Glad I could help out some! If you haven't done a cam or calipur swap, I'd say just leave it how it is. Unless your bored and have some extra money to spend haha. Anyone I've talked to said they hydro boost is a night and day difference. With a camshaft, they dont pull as much vacuum pressure, so you have to put more force on the brake pedal. And with more pistons, your brakes are pushing more fluid. So for me, it's almost a necessity to do the hydro upgrade.

Hey, I'm not super familiar with the gmt400 platform, I've owned them, but never customized them. I tried doing a some research on it, it looks like for the rear most people swap in a newer axle with the bigger and better brakes already on it. For the front, I believe you just need the newer spindle to add the big brakes. Here is a link to some info I found on it. 67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=779580 Not a whole lot of info out there for it. Hey, thank you! I never had any issues with mine. Did you change anything else while you were there? Did you take the brake line off, and get air in the system? If the pads were loose or wiggling around, I think your stopping power would definitely decrease. Have you tried jacking up the front end and try wiggling the tire, or turning the steering wheel? Maybe its a ball joint clunck, or the tie rod?

Yep, 2019 rotors, calipers, and pads. You dont have to upgrade the rear if you don't want to. But the 2019 rear calipurs have electronics in them, and are not compatible on any of the previous models/years. And if i left the rears as single pistons, thats less fluid it would have to push, so yes it would perform a little better.
@Trav450ER
@Trav450ER 3 года назад
While he added pistons to the front he did had a couple to the rear... normally on these trucks, his inparticular, are calibrated for four pistons up front and two out back. Now that he has 8 up front and 4 out back, the proportioning bias is off... if you really slam the brakes hard, the rears should lock up before the fronts really start to do heavy braking. I had this similar issue on a 03 SS truck that has the dual piston front and rear calipers from factory and I put a 6 piston 15" front Stoptech kit on... it messed the brake bias up so bad I lose control and totaled the truck trying to brake hard... To solve the problem, you either need an adjustable proportioning valve, or put line restrictors in the rear lines...

Hi KC, Do you know how this would compare to the Caddy ATS brembo upgrade? Wondering if caliper is equally as large
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 2 года назад
Hey, I honestly can give you a straight answer. But I do know brembo is a very well know performance company. All their products are usually pretty nice. I also know that some silverado/gmc trucks (2019+) can be ordered with a special brake option, where the dealer will remove the 4piston setup and swap to a brembo setup, before delivering to the customer. So brembo is definitely the "higher package" That being said im not 100% sure if those ATS brakes will bolt up in the factory silverado spot and still have the proper offset/pad contact area. But another thing to keep in mind, those ATS brakes are designed for a 3,300-3,600 lb car, not a silverado that weighs 4,200-5,500lbs. So those brembos might be a performance option, for an ATS, but might be sub-par for a silverado. Idk, just something to thing about, and my .02 cents. I haven’t done mine was wondering your experience since you did the swap I’m doin drum to disc in the rear and then doing your suggested swap worries I will have vacuum pressure lost some to adding that many pistons to brake calipers
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 2 года назад
Hey, no not yet. I have the 4.8L pulled. About to drop in the 6.0L and the E fans swap, then I'll do they AWD and hydroboost conversion. I dont wanna take on too many videos/projects at once haha. But we're getting there. Thanks for the support!
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 2 года назад
Also, like you said, adding more pistons means you will be pushing more fluid, harder to stop. (Or you have to apply more foot pressure) but the main reason i have alot of vacuum pressure loss, is because of the large camshaft i have. That effects it alot. So if your stock, it won't be as bad as mine was, but a hydro boost upgrade is more ideal.

Happen to know the size of the rear rotors you need to do the Yukon caliper swap? And what the part number is for the rotor and caliper
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa Год назад
Hey, the rotors should be the same size. I used the silverado rotors that were on my truck, which I seen a few people do as well. As for the calipur, its been a long time since I did that swap, and I don't wanna give you the wrong part number. But I just went to autozone and asked for the rear calipurs of a 2004 yukon 4x4. And made sure they were the dual piston setup. They also took my old calipurs for the core charge. Sorry im not much help there.
@dylansmith3
@dylansmith3 Год назад
@@TheKingCoopa nah you’re fine! I was curious on doing that but worried about the braking difference you described in the video. But my Silverado is just a lifted 4.8 so I normally wouldn’t have to slam my brakes but was curious on how slow of a difference there was when applying the brakes. My stock brakes seem sluggish so I’ll at least do the front calipers for now
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa Год назад
@@dylansmith3 also if you have a large camshaft it will just make the braking power worse. Less vacuum pressure = less braking force. But even with a mild cam, large front and rear calipurs the daily driving with my truck isn't bad. Still drives like normal. Its just slamming on the brakes, is where I notice the big difference. But id upgrade the fronts before you do the rears. Always wanna have the stronger brakes up front

Hey, do you know what the offset of your current wheels are? Depending on that, if its a negative offset, you would need a larger spacer. If it's a positive offset, you would need a small spacer like 5mm or no spacer at all. Every wheel design is gonna be different

Hey, from the research I've done. These should work for your setup. The escalade calipurs are already pretty big though. Those 22s kill it. But I honestly think you would gain more braking force from doing a hydroboost swap. It runs off your power steering pump, instead of the intake vacuum.

@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa Год назад
Hey, are you talking about the LED bar? The bottom set already has the connector on it. The top set you need to wire in to the bottom set. I used deutsch connectors. As they are easy to install, add more wires, change connector houseings, ect. And they are waterproof. But if you wired it in already, the lights work, but the auto feature isn't working. Like the DRL or the headlights bulbs. Its either your DRL/headlight switch, or the light sensor on the dash is bad.

If you have instagram or Facebook, i can send some photos. But the lower housing plugs right into the DRL socket on the trucks harness (brown and blue wires). I cut the trucks harness, and spliced in a deutsch connector. That connector goes to the top houseing. Red wire from the headlight housing, goes to the brown wire on the harness. Black wire from the headlight housing, goes to the blue wire on the harness
