I've always found funny that the Argonians stormed the Oblivion gates and freaked out the Deadra to the point that they closed that gates themselves.

As much as I get shit for it, I only ever play as Argonian. The fact that I can just jump in the water and leave battle is hilarious

So one of my favorite parts about how the argonians handled the oblivion crisis, is that they not only put an end to the crisis on their territory, but they also took advantage of the situation to invade Morrowind in its weakened state and free all the argonian slaves

I had an unexpected emotionally charged response to the Argonians charging through the gates of hell to save their homes. That type of Herculean courage is legendary; I now have a profound respect for these reptiles

For Number 3. Whats creepier about that is that Argonians not just in blackmarsh but in other parts in Tamriel were influenced by the hist to come back. I think its even mentioned in Oblivion that many Argonians were going back to Blackmarsh for some reason. Which led to Infernal City. I like to think there are a Clan of Argonians that were stuck in Oblivion when the gates closed that have taken their own territory and have found a way to thrive off of Daedric creatures.

When I first read about Argonians storming Oblivion I was like: Damn! That's so cool! Let's add to that that they knew about Oblivion Crisis because Hists warned them.

So the deal with the counter invasion is that The Hist warned them early. Like the ground work for the gates opening was being laid and The Hist was like "Yo, my guys, we got some demon shit going down"

Interesting concept, that bit about Argonians actually invading Oblivion during the crisis. Sounds like a fun idea for a mod, storming an entire plain of Oblivion with an actual army at your back.

Being old school, when I first encountered Argonians, I said, "Lizard Men" meaning the race that was first published in the OD&D supplement called Greyhawk in.... 1975. I really do think that Beth drew their inspiration for Argonians (and the monster variety Lizard Men in Arena) directly from D&D.

Something interesting that I found was that Nate here was partially right on the offspring front about Argonians. Turns out that when traveling or away from Black Marsh, Argonians give live birth since children can be taken with you. Meanwhile, when residing in a permanent or safe location, Argonians will lay eggs. Lockstin & Gnoggin is a RU-vid channel that looks into this (and also give a likely answer to Nate's question about what if an Argonian child is born away from the Hist.)

I remember one of my former characters when I was playing Skyrim was an Argonian (Since they're my favorite race and all) and the story that I gave him was that he was born in Solstheim after his parents fled Morrowind from the eruption of Red Mountain. In turn he wasn't born with access to a Hist tree but instead he was chosen by Akatosh to carry his Dragon Blood to make him the Dragon Born. This in turn gave him a very Dragon looking appearance. Lengthening and thinning the snout as much as possible, giving him a low, stream-lined, brow like it would cut through the air better if he could fly, giving him horns and the more thornier, spikier brows and such. And he was probably my favorite way to play in any of the Elder Scrolls games: A Night Blade. Mixing Illusion magic with Stealth. Definitely a fun character. :>

5:40 In Skyrim, there's a Tree called "The Sleeping Tree", which, can be harvested for its Sap. It's affects are very similar to Hist Tree Sap, and can be suspected to be a Young Hist Tree... It's back story heavily implies it's from a Floating Island, since the Tree "Mysteriously came out of nowhere.", and you can find people have been hired to acquire said Sap. If it's a Hist Tree, it can explain why Argonians can Thrive in Skyrim... And considering Hist are Sapient Trees, it's not hard to believe that the Sleeping Tree dropped itself off the Island, for the Argonians' sakes.

Tiny detail: I think I know what the polymorph skeever spell was for, in Brelyna at the collage of Winterholds quest she turns you into a bunch of animals it is possible that in that quest instead of just standing there and watching as she turned you into different animals she turned you into a skeever and you had to run around as a skeever for a bit. Just a thought

Argonians have all ways been my favorite race, due to them being so unique compared to the others. I really like the Orcs as well, due to them being more like orcs in the typical sense besides the fact that they are basically mer, Orsimer. :P

I miss the Morrowind argonians with their unique leg and foot structure, really made them seem alien and captivated my attention when I first got the game.

Being a huge fan of Argonians I paid extra attention to the lore and story during my playthrough in ESO of both the base argonian inhabited zones and Murkmire. As far as the Hist trees are concerned it's not that it gives them a soul as it more or less harbors it for their reincarnation in a pocket dimension not too far different from oblivion. If an argonian is born away from a tree they are not connected to one and therefore do not 'hear it calling to them' and when they die they will not be able to reincarnate. This is also why it is devastating for a tribe to lose a tree. They cannot connect with another tree. Another interesting thing I learned in Murkmire was that an elf was studying them and was trying to find the secret to the hist to gain immortality and his research led him to question how argonians even exist since they are neither cold blooded nor warm blooded. As he basically put it 'technically they shouldn't even exist as they are'. They can also invoke the power of the hist through a ritual to basically be turned back into an egg so they can hatch anew, some of them do this to change genders, there's a whole quest line about that whole process. All the new stuff I learned from that zone just makes me more impressed and interested in the race. Bonus bonus fact.... don't ask an Argonian to sing for you, they are absolutely tone deaf and sound terrifying xD

the jeweler in the Riften market was always one of my favorite characters...on the other hand Jarerah however you spell it and his sister are the epitome of a major pain in the posterior...so the argonians run the gambit of social graces...but I never played one..interesting and informative video though

Didn’t mention that Argonians have specific life phases - they don’t grow steadily they just morph from say child to teen all at once after a certain number of years in a certain form. And, each time they morph to a life phase, they have about a 50/50 shot of having their gender change. So yes, just about every adult Argonian you have met in the main games has transitioned at-least once, if not more.

For #2, ESO actually explored what happens when an argonian is born without a hist tree. You deal with one in a quest with his dark elf partner. It described him as being very withdrawn, and he was for better lack of words, autistic. When he connects with a Hist tree during the quest, he "comes out of his shell" and no longer has autism basically.....it really sounds terrible, but its the only comparison I can make lol

5:00 Imagine this for an Elder Scrolls game in BlackMarsh. A large group of Argonian eggs have been taken and raised up to be some sort of slave-group. Maybe brought up as Assassins (Or the Dark Brotherhood). Because they were taken before hatching, they really don't have any soul, and feel lost or without identity. Near the ending of the questline for this group, they may request the protagonist to help them attain some sort of meaning in life, or attain a soul. The protagonist can help them gather sap or do something else.

On the matter of the sap, I imagine that they import sap around the continent, and because it holds no value to anyone but argonian parents, it tends not to come up very often even in shops.

Its absolutly amazing that you still find things to talk about in this game. I love this game and your videos make me feel like its a new game all over again. Im still excited to play with this new knowlage its wonderful.

I always picked argonian race 1. Breathing under water 2. Disease resistance And not only that the power of healing hitskin (i think) can be used once per day, beneficial and fun.

50% resistant to disease, not poison. Loved the video. Hoping for ES6 to be in Black Marsh

Fun fact: The Saxhleel don't have any concept of time. As such, their language never had any words for it (for example, their native language doesn't have any version of past, present or future tense) so learning the Imperial Language and learning all the past, present and future tenses was the most difficult part. This could also be why they never wrote anything down, as they didn't see a reason to do so.

Fact: There's a hist tree in Skyrim, and a quest to take sap from it. The sap is called "sleeping tree sap" and can be used like a potion. It can also be obtained outside of the quest, though I think there's a cooldown on how often you can take from it.

The great mage wanders through great peril and lusting students seemingly oblivious to everything, causing chaos wherever he goes. One can imagine him writing the work without even smiling. I always find myself playing as Khajiit or Argonian. I find them more interesting to play than human or mer races, and more aesthetically pleasing during playthroughs.

Nate totally didn't cover that Argonian's can apparently give birth to live young if there is no Hist tree according to another source I saw and that's how they get around not having the sap. It's straight from mother to child- but this third hand information now. Fugemppet had a video on it which was pretty interesting.

5:35 Good question. I assume nothing special happens to the argonian child raised without the Hist sap. My reasoning is that plenty of argonians were hatched under slavery by the Dunmer. Highly doubtful that their Dunmer masters took the young to Black Marsh just to feed on Hist sap.
