Hey Mid-Life Crisis Adventures, Excellent!!!! I also totally agree, his design is awesome! I'm glad you found it helpful! Cheers. Check out some of the other videos in the camping playlist, some ideas in there may also come in handy. ru-vid.com/group/PLB3APbpylMYvI1_bSn6_J0_QDHGHSzQtn
Hey Merle, I think that would be a fun idea in the spring, when the weather and Covid situation would be more conducive. I'll look into it. Also, thanks for the feedback on the channel. Cheers.
Back in the 1960's my dad and I built a pop-up camper for his VW PU. that slept 4 The dinette downstairs seated 4 and then the table folded down fto transform into my parent's bed. We made the whole thing from 1/4 inch ply and some wood strips at the edges. Likewise the extended cargo bay in the wood airplane I am building has a floor made of 1/8 inch Baltic Plywood, 40 inches wide and 4 feet long. When I get inside to work on things it supports me just fine. It seems to me that much thinner ply could be used if supported with wood strips in stress areas for a big weight saving.
A VW pickup would be cool. Yes. Perhaps the weight of thinner plywood, plus the support strips would be lighter than just using thicker plywood. Thanks for sharing.
Planning a platform build on my 2001 TJ. Primarily going to use it as a Winter stealth camper out here in Colorado. Hope to save time and gas money by being able to sleep closer to the ski resorts. The size limitations are my biggest issue at the moment but I won't have to pack a lot of gear since I'll only be doing a night or two at a time out of the Jeep.
I completed my build this weekend. I included the modification to allow for more storage room by moving the brace outside the cargo legs. By doing so, I noticed the 60% mid area needed additional bracing in the lower left section. So, I added an additional 36” support piece which extends to the right of the center console and its perfect now. There’s a total of 6 supports now. Thanks for sharing this build and the plans Dino! Love this channel - so many helpful and useful tips!
Hey Dino, this is a great update to your platform idea. The community really thrives from this input !! Once we are out of the deep freeze here I'll send you my set-up, so in 3-4 months... LOL One thing though the link with David's files is empty right now, I'd love to see what he had. Well done on the international following bud !!!
Hey Bruce, That's awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done. Send them to CheaperJeeperTV@gmail.com. Feel free to test the link to David's files. I think it should work now. Cheers.
Hi Dino. Love the refinements. This gives me ideas for improving my platform (e.g. reduce weight, expand space). Also, gotta love those Roots mitts for the Canadian winter. Cheers 8)
Another great video Dino. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Loved the idea to ask people for what and how they did their sleeping platforms. I started as my own, than upgraded to yours (based of your full series videos and generous plans from your website) and since, up-upgraded to extruded aluminum profile frame. Had deleted the 60% seat and 40% folded for dual use (camping with my wife - full platform, going by myself the 40% area sleeping platform removed...). I had everything out before X-mas for painting (LineX) and then decided to remove my 40% seat as well, for huge storage space under. Was hoping to get it ready to send you pics for this video, but Renogy had some sale over LiFoPo second battery and controller, so I got postponed re-assembling my platform, to allow me to install the house battery system and solar panel. Once done, will indeed send you the material... Thanks for this people's ideas compilation, actually got me some more ideas to work/improve my design... Cheers, Nash
Hey Dino. Fascinating channel. I found your chuckbox videos first and then got sucked into the others. I just couldn't tear myself away, haha. I'm thinking about making your sleeping platform for my 2014 JKU. I want to store my Camco toilet which is 16" tall and 12V fridge which is 14.4" tall under the platform, behind the front seats. I'd like to plan storage for my gear before I start cutting. Are there SketchUp models available for your sleep platform, and David Lloyd's design/storage plans? Thanks!
Hey Counter Productive, I’m glad you liked the videos. Reach out to be at CheaperJeeperTv@gmail.com and I’ll see what I can send you later today. I’m not home at the moment. Your project sounds exciting. Cheers.
Hey Joe, The link to Davids files is in the description section. The CheaperJeeperTV platform design and construction videos are all in a playlist. Also in this videos description section. Cheers
