Rolls even without ailerons. someday I'll put ailerons on her, THEN it's AWESOME. Wish they'd Remake this!!!
BTW it's actually a 99 inch span but I've always called it 100.
Also: see vid named "Windfree Sweet Vintage Bird Slope Huck'n Full Flight" on my site... another Sweet Vintage Bird that I'm more attuned to.

Thanks for posting these videos they take me back to when I was younger and used to fly slope I had a Paragon that I did my 2 hour thermal and 4 hour slope with for my level 4 LSF I also had numerous other slope planes from a Jaguars to Zagis over the years.

Wow 2hr thermal, holy crap, I've done a 2hr slope "once" ;lol. I once did 150 continuous loops on the slopes and BION I got up so high in a thermal that I did 100 spin rotations to get down. Sailplanes are sure fun! Maybe it's time to relive/revive your slope soaring Joys? Cheers and Thanks: Robert

@@robertshaver4432 I got lucky on the thermal I launched into it and it was going up like an elevator I called to my friend Don to put me on clock it got so high I could cover it with my little finger at arms length so I laid down and just put it in little circles, people walking by would ask what I was doing and pointed up to the speck up there After Don told me the time was up I popped the spoilers and got it back down I had never seen a thermal like that before or after on the slope after I had the thermal I loaded it up with c cells and went to a slope where we flew and just putted back and forth I almost made level 4 but I moved and never did the cross country The league of silent flight is an organization that puts higher and higher demands on you to improve your skills Level 5 was a 4 hour thermal and a 8 hour slope there wasn't many of them This was back in the eighties in southern California

I flew my first R/C, an Olympic 650, where Stilwell Hall used to be back in '89 to '92. I was building it when the earthquake hit. Thanks for posting this! Brought back some great memories!

Stillwell Hall used to reside about 1/2 mi South of where this video was taken (on my left). I'm at the called Cardiac Hill near the end of Lake Ave in Marina. Glad to revive happy memories. Would recommend an Ahi foam glider for your return if you choose to make more happy memories. Thanks for the Cheer! Robert

I built my second one with flat wing panels, ailerons on the outer taper with flaps inboard...marvellous. I still have an untouched Airtronics kit, must get at it
@robertshaver4432
@robertshaver4432 3 года назад
Yes build it and with ailerons it's totally awesome: If kitted today it would sell like hot cakes and would be very profitable. To bad that someone doesn't kit balsa sailplanes like this one! They aren't that difficult to build: a hint that you should build it lol. Glad you liked my video and that it brought "old good times" to mind: Thank You! Robert

@@robertshaver4432 Cheers Robert, and yes you are so right. The smell of those Airtronics kits was an elixir, mine is still fragrant in the box after 38 years! Here is the first one I built, with polyhedral and Canadian flag outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=5136

@@robertshaver4432 Not to drone on too much, but I think this time with modern equipment I will build the full house wings with 2.4GHz receiver and battery in each wing, just for flap, aileron (maybe spoiler), and a polyhedral set for simpler flying and mood. All the best!
@robertshaver4432
@robertshaver4432 3 года назад
@@direktorpresident If you have both ailerons and flaps then spoilers aren't needed as you can do crow mixing which is way best, that way you don't spoil the smooth top of the wing with closed spoilers. Even closed they add drag for the created humps. Crow mixing is incredible! If your radio won't do crow mix then I still say no spoilers as Flaps will create plenty of drag (and stability) for landings. Best of hopes for your soon to be Aquila! Robert

Very nice flying, my hat is off to you! the Aquila is such a nice glider.. Was this one built with modifications or just a stock build? Thanks for sharing.
@robertshaver4432
@robertshaver4432 7 лет назад
Thank you very much, I didn't build it but it's a stock build with spoilers only. When I re-build her she'll get ailerons too. If interested check my site for Windfree huck'n video which is way better and shows them both side by side on my workbench at the end, skip the 1st 9 min if too long. Thanks again for the compliment.

Wow sorry didn't see your inquiry. This is the Monterey Bay. Monterey Ca. is the Peninsula on the far left and Santa Cruz is way off to the right. San Francisco is 100mi north as the crow flies (to the right). Can't ask for a more picturesque view! Thanks for the complement.

Wow, I didn't know who excepting that it was an Airtronics Kit. These were really cool with ailerons, thought about an aileron upgrade on this one: likely won't get to it but they fly great without ailerons too. It does have spoilers: Awesome for safer landings. Thanks for the complement

@@robertshaver4432 Lee also designed the Airtronics Sagitta and while I was attending college in Ft. Wayne, In. in 1979 I was a member of a local sailplane club (LOFT). Lee and Tim Renaud, Skip Miller and Dwight Holley came with the new Sagitta and what a show. The good ole days... lol

@@robertshaver4432 Line of sight, I tried FPV with a cheap camera on the T-tail of my Slegers Prism and found that its not for me.. Hi Where can I get the kit or planes for this wonderfull glider Please advice
@robertshaver4432
@robertshaver4432 4 года назад
The Aquila is 1970's Vintage so even just the plans is probably a rare find. If you find a "kit or plans" put on the optional ailerons for sure, "especially" if for slope soaring, I wish this one had Ailerons, they were awesome!. Some Kits had a fiberglass fuselage, this one is the lite ply and balsa fuselage kit version.The Entire Rudder moves "full flying rudder", it also has a large "full flying elevator". If interested: the last minute or so of my "Windfree video" shows and compares it side by side with the Aquila. This one is 99" span, they also had an Aquila Grande (120"?) but it wasn't that great (for aerobatics) on the slopes, it was great for thermals however I Hope you can find a kit or plans, It'd definitely be worth finding. Good luck Robert
