Thank You! It's one of my favorites to fly. Seems to break the rules of Wooden Rudder Elevator high aspect ratio flight. She's a sweetheart. Thanks again.
The massive amount of dihedral and 3D Throws on the elevator and rudder control surfaces makes it roll like it has ailerons lol and your skills might help just a lil bit 😉👍🏼
You know any spot you can slope but no paragliders allowed? Lol! I fly too crazy to have people floating around lol! It be like a video game with no reset 🤦♂️
Ha ha I don't mind them being around. It's actually entertaining, I've always got an out if they gang up on me lol. I just hope that they don't trust all R/Cers like they trust me. It is a challenge when three intersect right in front of me (making 4) Rookie R/Cers mingling with rookie paragliders is what can be trouble.
You fly so smooth you make it look easy 😂 So calm n relaxing yet very aerobatic! My rolls are usually 3 point 🤦 Nice flying brother, I did some shear wave soaring Saturday off the dry lake bed in 27-30mph wind. Couldn't sustain it for more than 3min but I was having fun... Enjoy!
@@robertshaver4432 I don't know how to get up there. There is a steep road by the daggett side but it's not useable. I will definitely do some real slope soon! Right now I'm in the high energy Huck n chuk mode but I always bring gliders with me. Check out my short vid of my Slicks new power setup. I took an animal and made it a monster. Lol!
@@mikesrcgarage I'll check it out! Yes I made the same mistake. You go up on the Barstow side. Calico exit but go the other way, take the very first road that basically doubles back towards Barstow right next to the freeway go about 200 yards and get into the dirt on the left, find the dirt access road, it'll take you all the way there. When pavement begins either park at the bottom sharp turn or back up to the gate (about 200 yards. walk around the gate and up the road. there's a sharp bend (kind of and out cropping) with a small chute (as caused by the sharp bend) it's kind of the second sharp bend, the sharpest bend. To land walk up the road to the top, it's a blacktop road so easy walk. careful of the power lines when landing lol, they're towards the back so they're OK but beware. Google maps what I just scripted and I'll bet you'll find your way. The dirt road is obscure from the doubled back road. And is for big truck access to the towers so It's not bad, I got my car up there without bottoming out, a truck would be easy! Google maps and 3D it for better decerning. Cheers: Robert
I'm a keen model plane designer myself. I see a lot of pointless gimmick designs but this one I think is really great and makes a lot of sense. Makes me wonder why its not been done more (or at all?) with fullsize design. Well done that man 👍
Thank you! Yes no gimmicks, every strange shape/angle for aerodynamic reason, I applaud you for seeing that. I cannot explain its sailplane like glideslope however, it came as a great surprise and I still can't figure it out without using a-lot of wacky maybes lol. I expected a bi-plane like glide slope and it's more akin to a sailplane glideslope. Go figure ha. Thanks Again! Robert
@@robertshaver4432 Very interesting. Unless its a thin wing section I'm thinking it might be due to one wing swept forward, the other swept back and between the two and the end plates they do good stuff for vortex control thus reducing induced drag. I'm a sailplane pilot and model glider designer myself 👍
@@mikeonb4c 16% full symmetrical aerobatic airfoil. The low drag and high lift is/has to be more than just vortex removal, I sure of it. Thanks for your complements and interest!✌
@@robertshaver4432 Next thought might be that propellor thrust (even on tickover) might enhance airflow through the 'box' formed by the wings and end plates. 🤔
@@mikeonb4c Exactly! And beings it's a double box with attached airflows throughout the laminar flow shaped fuselage sides and all of the surrounding wings, it causes? Yes I know there's no way that the fuselage flows will be laminar flow but, the late expansion or rearward thick point keeps the airflow properly "attached" for the critical length/portion the fuselage. The top ,bottom and side wings are all slightly toed in, the double box prevents trailing edge downwash as well as zero Leading edge upwash and that causes? Something wonderful to occur that can only be defined via wind tunnel testing! The glide slope achieved is "impossible". I'm completely befuddled. 🤔
Ha thanks but I like my old spot better. Early summer winds are here at least for a week via the forecast. tired of smooth flying... lets get radical lol.
Thank You! Yes miles of dunes here and every 100ft is different than the last 100'. I'm getting in what I can as I know I'll soon be moving away. I'm going to miss these dunes! Thanks Again! Cheers: Robert
Enjoyed your video. I love this kit. I’ve built several of Marks Models, Windfree ships. My present one is from Skybench Aerotec. I’ve included spoilers and carbon spar modifications. Terry&ThePirates South Florida
Very cool is Skybench Aerotec the ones who remade this Windfree kit? I didn't build this one but I know it's from a remake Windfree "kit". Love the Windfree, my other one (that I made and still fly) is 40 years old. Thanks for the comment! Robert
@@robertshaver4432 I love building and flying sailplanes. I remember picking up Marks Model kits from Tower shortly after the kids release. Many times paired with a two Chanel radio for under $100. Ray from Skybench re-kitted this using Laser cutting and one larger Airtronics style wing joiner. I’ve built several of Skybench offerings. All superior materials with upgraded design and building features. I just found your older Aquila video. I’m very familiar with all Aerotronics offerings
@@terryforbes4038Thank you for that, I'll look into it. Airtronics kits were supreme in that everything fit perfectly. You may find my other Windfree video interesting (my green and blue one) in that it flies so differently as compared to my newer one, the main difference being that my old one has quite a-bit more dihedral thus it snaps on command whereas my new one Lolly gags a-bit and then decides to snap or spin. I also enlarge my rudder for slope soaring. Hey let me know how your new one turns out, I had thought about spoilers but Windfrees' wing is designed to flex so much that I thought otherwise about it. Seriously... let me know! Thanks: Robert
Thanks for posting these videos they take me back to when I was younger and used to fly slope I had a Paragon that I did my 2 hour thermal and 4 hour slope with for my level 4 LSF I also had numerous other slope planes from a Jaguars to Zagis over the years.
Wow 2hr thermal, holy crap, I've done a 2hr slope "once" ;lol. I once did 150 continuous loops on the slopes and BION I got up so high in a thermal that I did 100 spin rotations to get down. Sailplanes are sure fun! Maybe it's time to relive/revive your slope soaring Joys? Cheers and Thanks: Robert
@@robertshaver4432 I got lucky on the thermal I launched into it and it was going up like an elevator I called to my friend Don to put me on clock it got so high I could cover it with my little finger at arms length so I laid down and just put it in little circles, people walking by would ask what I was doing and pointed up to the speck up there After Don told me the time was up I popped the spoilers and got it back down I had never seen a thermal like that before or after on the slope after I had the thermal I loaded it up with c cells and went to a slope where we flew and just putted back and forth I almost made level 4 but I moved and never did the cross country The league of silent flight is an organization that puts higher and higher demands on you to improve your skills Level 5 was a 4 hour thermal and a 8 hour slope there wasn't many of them This was back in the eighties in southern California
I just got into flying RC Planes, and bought my first little motor glider. I've been having so much fun with it lately. This location is lovely and your Glider is awesome!
Awesome, keep at it, it's very rewarding! If you want to try pure slope soaring (no engine) and can find a good site I recommend an AHI glider. A bit hard to find in stock because It's awesome. Cheers and Thank You for the comment: Robert
Ha ha, That's almost my newest radio. I still use my 72 band radios, They're perfectly safe now because I'm the only one using them lol. Ever heard of an Airtronics Championship series radio? From the 1980's and still going strong. Glad you enjoyed my video! Thank you for your comment. Cheers: Robert
A deserve a few points deductions but I did it! Thanks for the idea, I had my doubts but it really wasn't that bad. Hope you have a great weekend too. Cheers: Robert
@@robertshaver4432 Very nice brother thanks and cheers! I actually have some very short glider footage from today... I didn't video it which I really don't like to do with planes... But a quick clip and a shorts vid from it...
@@mikesrcgaragePowered planes Yes, Gliders? Hmm I'll give it a shot. If I have altitude and can lose some within the maneuver, Definitely yes. Do you mean a harrier rolling circle? Hmm I'll try that too but obviously much altitude will be lost in the process. Challenge accepted on both counts, sounds like fun! lol I've done flying rolling horizontal eights without losing much altitude but that's in running through the lift zone twice in the process. I've maybe got one decent day in the forecast in-between a lot of upcoming rainy days. Cheers my Brother: Robert
@@robertshaver4432 Yes with gliders on slope, just a rolling circle without the 3d harrier high alpha attitude, aileron rolls flying at any speed or any direction hence circle or a rolling loop ect. I have seen it done with 3d slope gliders and I have only done it with my warmliner electric gliders myself not on slope. But it looks cool! I think downwind coming at yourself will be very tricky on slope... Lol! But I think you can do it!
@@mikesrcgarageI'll give it a shot. You know... the last 90 degrees is just in your head, keep the sticks going as before and ignore the adrenalin caused brain fade. It is hard to get over but confidence prevails. Never tried it with a sailplane though. Well see. Cheers: Robert
Only those who have the courage to fly it can break a plane, I love le fish model planes, they are very versatile, I enjoy their videos whenever I can. a big hug 😢😮😂😂😂❤
I don't have one but It looks like an AHI is the better glider. Yes though, I love my Le Fish. Thanks for the Complement and yeah... Get back at it! lol
I took a LONG break from flying, like... 35 years. Bought myself an Ahi and a radio, that thing went together in about 30 minutes and it's a blast to fly. Get one... You won't regret it.
Lol, No its the stupid things you do for the love of your hobby! Lol! But yes more subs! Amazing throws on that RES and at least you didnt land on your plane! A friend and I sloped the mule canyon slope. It was awesome! Gonna maiden a new glider that can be sloped "Durafly EFX Racer" Have a great weekend brother, entertaining video! 😉👍🏼
@@robertshaver4432 Yeah it's amazing my buddies glider he used a Volantex Phoenix 1.6 m hung very well, mine a TopRc lightning 1.5m needed 5 mph more wind but I still had a blast! I have a lot of planes to slope... Once I have the 🔴🔴 🤣 Thanks!
