Renault has a large family of engines, the index of which begins with the letter K. These power units originated in the mid-1990s and many of them are still being produced. In particular, the aspirated K7M, K7J, K4M and the K9K turbodiesel belonging to this family are still installed on compact Renault and Dacia cars.
The working volume of these engines is from 1.4 to 1.6 liters. All K-family motors are based on a cast-iron block with integrated cylinder liners. The block head is aluminum. K-series engines can have one or two camshafts and, accordingly, 8 or 16 valves.
In this video, we examined a very common, but already discontinued Renault 1.4 engine, with an index of K4J 770 (98 hp). It was removed from the 2004 Renault Modus with mileage, you won’t believe it, only 124,000 km.
