I carried a SOG Tigershark Aus 6 made in Seki Japan through Iraq, through all my training and still use it. I would bet my life on that one. But the new SOG's make me wonder about the build quality but that steel looks pretty tough. GREAT VIDEO MAN KEEP IT UP!!!
You gave that knife a massive beating and it came out a winner nice video and either way you save people money on what knife to purchase and what one's would be waste of time and money thanks
Hi Mayor. I have had one of these for a few years. Still in it's box as it did appear on the fragile side. Your video proved that it is anything but! Really glad I bought this knife now. Thank you for the good work on these tests. This is virtually a public service.
@@MayorFuglycools And here we sit 22 hours later, and I am now the proud owner of a SOG Seal Pup thanks to this video. ☺ Already quite happy with my purchase! Something not mentioned in videos I've seen of it yet, but I'm amazed at how comfortable this thing is on the belt. I honestly can't even tell it's there, and it gets perfectly out of the way when sitting down. An all-around wonderful knife. Thanks again, Mayor Fuglycool! o7
I've had my Seal Pup for ~16 years and I love it. Mine was made in Japan (Seki) and I've heard complaints about the Taiwanese blades, but after watching this video I can't imagine what they're complaining about.
Great video as always Mayor! I've been eyeing one of those Seal Pups for a while. Might have to put one on my Santa's list. Thank you for all your time and efforts in making these videos.
Good review, very thorough. Glad you managed to get a hold of a SOG SEAL Pup, and it's clear you put a LOT of effort into trying to destroy it. Great to see what abuse this knife can take. Keep it up Mayor!
Mayor Fuglycool, another great review/test and I literally just bought this knife after watching the video. I bought it on E-bay new for $37.00 free shipping. I wanted a tough smaller inexpensive fixed blade I could keep keep in the car for my bug out pack. Thanks for what you do! We appreciate it!
I've used these knives a long time have old style and new ones. Never had an issue with the old aus 6 from Seki and glad to see the new aus 8 from Taiwan is as tough as i hoped. Another great video, thanks Mayor.
HAHAHA Thanks for watching Grippy, this test was a little long but I made it more enjoyable. I will be trying more voices in the future, and I am glad you loved it ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
Hey Mayor, I'm wondering if you could ever get your hands on a Buck 124 Frontiersman for testing. I had one years ago and it seemed like a pretty substantial knife. There's not much on RU-vid about that knife. I've been looking at them again, they usually go for about $100 give or take $10. Thanks for your replies! Your pal, Grippy ^_^
Grippy McJimping I will try to look for that model Grippy, but it will probably be next year when I get around to it. Sounds pretty solid :) Mayor Fuglycool
thanks so much for this review! I was always skeptical about the handles.... I thought they'd be flimsy. I had no idea they were that tough!!! thanks for testing it so that I didn't have to! ;)
I think this knife was intended as a dive knife with other uses in mind. Not my favorite (serrations, blade lightness, etc.), but WITHOUT A DOUBT a keeper for sure!
Thank You for goooooood test ! Now I know what kind of knife I can buy and be sure, it's never do bad surprises in difficult situations. Nice knife! Hi from Russia !
Well, that was a very tough, thorough test! I have looked at this knife for a long time, and now, after seeing your vid, my mind is made up: I'll buy it. Thanks for testing.
I got mine for $22 at a local gun shop, the mislabeled the price so they honored it. Ive had it for almost 7 years and by far my favorite basic general purpose knife and its attached to the Molle on my Bug Out Bag.
this knife seems good to have in my collection ☺ it is durable and not too expensive here in germany. Danke für deine Videos Major FC Viele Grüße nach Amerika 👍
damn, finally a sog! thanks so much! it looks like a beast and it sure as hell can take some beating. it's a really light blade, so I wouldnt mind not being able to chop with it, as i'd probably have a bigger blade by my side for that. Also, I think it's really impressive how many times you hit that brick and the knife managed to handle it. awesome vid! p.s.: i'd love to see a sog force :)
Knife abuse ! I mean, is anyone seriously ever going to beat on bricks, & cinder blocks with their Seal Pup? Probably not. However, glad it can hold up to so much ridiculous abuse ! Speaks volumes for SOG Quality !
+Mayor Fuglycool..And thanks for testing them to the extreme, so we don't have to (like you say) 👍 👊 have you ever tested any of SOG's auto knives? I have an awesome Spec Elite II Auto..Love that knife !
it stood up to the test really well, until that small bend, so for me its still the Becker its going to take some beating, keep the vids coming thanks for sharing, also you have an absolutely awesome channel (semper fi)
Thanks for watching brother, and I do agree on the Beckers being more "well rounded" for universal survival. This is a nice companion knife though :) Mayor Fuglycool
Just found your videos today. I'm not too sure I agree with the weight-based tests with this particular knife (the 2x4 and both brick tests). I own the SOG Seal, and, to be blunt, these are manufactured to be weapons and nothing more. I'd definitely look elsewhere for a bushcraft/survival knife, but for a weapon, these are fantastic. They're light, fast, and extremely durable.
For sure Mrs. Brown, I test it so you don't have to ! :) Tell your son that I said hi, and to enjoy his Sog Seal Pup. Thanks for watching, and I hope you guys have fun on your next adventure ! Mayor Fuglycool
Awesome test! recently discovered your channel and was super excited to see this one as the seal pup has been my newest addition to my pack. I also have a SOG force and would LOVE to see you test one! any chance of you getting one to tortur...I mean test anytime soon????
Very impressed that that little light-weight knife is built like a brick shithouse! Just bought one today as a companion knife from Amazon after watching this. I lucked out, they had the one with a kydex sheath marked down to 45 bucks in their warehouse. I think that one's normally around 80.
Hi Mayor "THANK YOU" for all of the Tests that you do. "THOUGH I DO CARE WHAT A KNIFE IS DESIGNED TO DO. . . I CARE MORE ABOUT WHAT IT CAN ACTUALLY DO. . . AND ESPECIALLY OUT THERE IN THE FIELD". Better to see the limits of a Knife tested on your channel and fail there (or not), than to have a Knife fail on you out there in the field which could be a life or death situation!! A lot of people don't seem to understand that!! No doubt people will disagree with my comment and that's their right, but personally I'm grateful for all of your tests so keep doing them. Thanks Again M 👍👍👍
if i had to have a knife to carry with me to the gun range to pry bullets out of the gun when it fails to eject or double feed, what knife would you recommend, something big for sturdiness? something small to get in the chamber? any particular brand or model?
Well, I would recommend a better gun first to be honest. . . I mean bullets are not supposed to get stuck in the barrel. But if you want a general all purpose working knife, I would recommend the MORA HD models. Mayor Fuglycool
I would like to see the cold steel GI tanto get put thru the test !! i picked one up about a year ago still haven't got the chance to put it to work yet keep up the great videos thanks.
hi please will you try and test the sog jungle canopy, I know you have had one or two fails from sog but I think the canopy may be able to take a good beating :) cheers from the UK
Normally for fire I just use pine and make feathersticks by pushing down it. With a sharp enough blade on pine, you can get feathers that are 4 inches long and you can get a lot of them, so one stick means one fire.
Mayor Fuglycool other woods will work, pine has flammable resin throughout the branches, when it gets cut it will leak this resin and it will eventually harden to keep out bugs and anything that wants to feast on it, any softwood will make good feathersticks. You can even make torches and fire starters from pure resin that leaks through the trees trunk. (Its the stuff that makes your hands sticky).
I have this knife and as your thorough demonstrations showed, it is not the best at anything, but it is good at everything. I have much more expensive knives that won't do much more than this $40 SOG. Thanks
your a TOUGH GUY, fantastic video !,I have Seal pup Elite, hope its half as Strong as your blade.Hope you got some body armour on underneath ,as a suggestion , one of my Family had an axe fail on them a few years back,~ not a pretty sight for Her family !Take care Man.... from England , U.K. !
I am sure the BK7 will pass the test with flying colors. . . Since it is shorter than the BK9 it should theoretically be stronger. I will test the BK7 in the future, but it might take a while. Thanks for watching ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
I have had the seal pup for a few years now, have only taken her out into the bush once, reason being like you said it is far too light to be even close to an efficient Chopper and my Mora slices through wood with much more eaze. After all the seal pup was designed as a fighting knife so light is a good thing. It is overall an excellent knife, definitely no one tool option. When I go out I bring my Mora Light My Fire knife for fine detail work like feather sticks and my Ontario rat 7 for batoning... . Thanks for the video Playboy, surprised me that she bent. What knife are you reviewing next? Thanks. : ) Tyler
Well, I think that the Glock knife, and Ontario MK3 navy knife are both tied for the next test. Thanks for the feedback, and I do agree that the Mora seems more suited for bushcraft. This SOG is a well designed knife, but I do feel that it is lacking the feel of a bushcraft blade. I am glad you loved the test ;) Mayor Fuglycool
hello from kuwait i like your tests and this sog is a killer and i think its mainly for combat application. can you please make a test on FKMD predator 1 please peace
He does it for a joke. Sheesh people have no sense of humor these days. Notice his Arnold impersonation while he was doing the pull-ups with the knife? It's to inject humor. Lighten up pal!
