I've seen quite a few of these traditional martial arts demonstration and seminar videos, and this man is the real deal. Bruce Lee would be proud, as he was all about effective martial arts and discarding the rigid forms.
His stuff is more street and I like how he explains the technique, and says you ain't here to dance and do all these fancy techniques , I'm a bjj guy at Gracie Barra, and some of the technique Osoto Gari is modified a little, I like his attitude about the streets is realistic...Good for you Mike you aren't closed minded.
Did he say Professor Vee? That's the same guy who taught Moses Powell. Very interesting seeing the differences in their styles, while having some of the same teacher lineage. Moses stayed closer to the traditional style, while Mike adapted it to what he feels is more practical in the street.
This is how ju jit su was intended to be taught in self defense before the Brazilians turned it into a sitting on the ground game.Now before you ignorant people shime in with your dumb comments and challenges (yes i do accept challenges) ground fighting is important but its just another range of fighting not the be all range as you see countless Bjj instructors start from and finish there seems like thats all some teach.

These techniques are most effective when your opponent is moving 'slowly.' Have you ever noticed that when most people are 'sparring' that very few 'standing techniques' ever get used? Well, it's the same in a real fight during the standing phase of that fight. Most fights seem to go from striking to grappling range, and few if any 'standing' traps, locks, or throws occur. Even 'unskilled' fighters rarely give experienced fighters the opportunity to use locks, blocks, throws, or chokes while both people are standing. In addition, it's very difficult to perform complex 'gliding' moves when your opponent is throwing hard punches and kicks at your face. Most of the technical 'holds' occur in grappling range when the fight goes to the ground.

Try your ground fighting techniques outside, on a hot summer's day or when there is snow on the ground. Its a much different experience.
These techniques are for training the necessary responses that will be used in real combat. Of course, no one hangs a punch out there, and it is much tougher to apply these techniques against a jab, but again, it's more about developing the muscle memory, than anything else.
If you go to a class or seminar with this man teaching he wants you in a total street state of mind , he wants you swinging hard and thinking and moving fast . Go to one of his seminars and stand across from him then pass your judgement

Gosh, I understand what he is trying to get across the problem is absolutely nobody locks there arm when they throw a punch in a streetfight or any fight for that matter so best to know the boxing structure. Boxers even those who flail in the street never lock their punches because they don't want their arms caught. Best to train against snapping punches that are done in combinations that way ya have an accurate example of what really happens. No criticism just an observation. Some of these techniques can work BUT the trainee has to be able to get PAST rapid fire boxing punches in order to make them work!! Learn boxing then you can blend and be able to deal with boxing punches using parrys, slipping, etc into point blank range. To terminate the fight!
I find this video very entertaining. When the instructor says "can you get out of this", how much of that technique has really been pressure tested in live training or sparring. Also, I don't think anyone throws punches like that on the street. BTW, I love this guy's hair cut, he looks like "Moe" from "The 3 Stooges".
He used to be in a few action movies; he was actually a pretty handsome guy in the 80s and 90s lol. As for the rest of your comment… yeah, way too much of this is nonsense with very little street application. Last I checked, most if not all of the instructors that are featured on this channel (and teach in their circle) have been disavowed by Hakko Ryu’s Hombu Dojo. You can go to the official Hakko Ryu website and see a list of who is sanctioned to teach its techniques. It’s sad, because a lot of people who don’t know any better are taken in under the auspices of learning an authentic Japanese martial art. In actuality, they’re not recognized by Hakko Ryu; they hold made up ranks with diplomas handed to them by their friends- these guys literally promote each other. At best, it’s an Americanized interpretation of a traditional martial art. At worst, it’s a group of charlatans profiteering off the ignorance of the masses. Cheers.
I gotta say, I thought this was gonna be bullshido. But I see at least some practical looking stuff. My question is, do they spar at all? Seems like it could be pretty rough.
29:25 Im going to try and see if I can pull that off in bjj. I find my self in kesa gatame quite often, but have never thought of doing that. I roll with some very well versed and tough bjjers. the problem I see with that move is a good grappler will frame with his hands and also quickly scoot out ont the right hip creating space, which will kill the leverage on the hand jaw push. lets see if it works though. I always like to keep an open mind Ill let you all know.
Like the man says if your opponent is well versed in a martial art that can combat this it is your responsibility to adapt , and in class with this man he wants you to punch or kick or whatever as fast as you can . He wants you in total street fighting state of mind . There's no games with him .
@@kanelynd2042 Im revisiting this years later. So I was able to perform all the cranks hes taught but only on really inexperienced guys. A blue belt or above worth his salt was not letting be move his head around with my hand. Also I stopped performing them, Some of the white belts are spazes and even if you got them in a bad spot they dont want to tap unless they are being blood choked to sleep. i dont want to accidentally paralyze anyone in class. That said you will pretty much easily pull this off on the street and could very well fracture their spine. Youre right this is no nonsense street stuff
