as an eastern european seeing a horror game set in such an accurate portrayal of a block (the colored tires marking the gardens outside, the graffiti on the walls, the dirty concrete staircase, the tiny apartments, even that specific couch with that type of cover to use as a bed) puts this on another level of fear for me. it's like your childhood turned into horror it's EXTRA personal
Yeah! It really takes back to those times I visited Russia (was absolutely terrified there as a kid in the suburbs of Chelyabinsk in my grandma's old apartment)
I like to think that Sean tells Evelyn he's going to play a game she has already played and she's like oh great that one was really good, then just waits to hear screams coming from Seans room and just giggles to herself.
Evelyn: "I wonder where Sean is in the game right now..." *(from inside the studio, a bloodcurdling scream of sheer terror)* Evelyn: "...Ah, so _that's_ where he is! I remember that part!"
It's crazy to see so much attention to detail in such games. As a person who grew up in post-soviet environment I literally know the exact layout of the flat because they were all built almost identically. It's really cool to see how this all translates into the game.
@@foxeshi2293 panelaki....shout out from zvolen, slovakia i lived at 13 years of age with my cousins family because we left in 1982 for the states...so i came back to visit. My mom speaks full hungarian and I love Hungary, the food and culture. Had chicken paprikas just recently.
"I don't really like living here though, the atmosphere sucks, my house sucks, everything's pretty terrible" And that's how you know the game got Eastern Europe right 👍
@@guerney2000 my family used to live in a place like this, we're from a post-soviet country as well😭 a lot of my friends live in flats like these, definitely not the best yk
@@KarinaMilne He's playing game originally made in Russian and quoting Kuplinov here, and Kuplinov is Russian. However, I think swear words are pretty much identical between the two languages so if you want to think he's swearing in Ukrainian - that kinda works too)
I've not seen Jack jump or scream like that in any horror game in FOREVER. I also had a few heart attacks, may have also screamed and jumped simultaneously with Jack. This was such a terrifying game. Well played (made), Dev.
Jump scare list: 4:08 (lighter is blown out with audio in ur ear) 6:48 (lights turn off with bass noise) 7:08 (gremlin blows out lighter and laughs) 8:15 (knocking on door, not rlly jump scare) 11:30 (record scratch noise) 12:00 (lights turn off with bass noise, ghost falls to floor) 12:07 (door slams shut) 12:16 (creepy person in hallway, they make noise then run away) 12:39 (creepy person runs at you, loud audio) 16:48 (creepy person crawls across floor into other apartment) 17:32 (no jump scares, just creepy noises until he leaves apartment) 20:19 (lights turn off, bass noise and loud knocking at door) 22:36 (jack crouches to go in hatch, creepy person crawls at u super fast with loud noise) 24:05 (growl noise?) 24:46 (little gremlin runs by with silly little laugh) 24:55 (lights is blown out) 25:22 (creepy person jumps out of closet at u, loud noise) 25:38 (no jumpscare, creepy music plays until 25:44 ) 25:59 (creepy person outside bathroom door, loud noise then they disappear) 26:35 (creepy person crying in hallway, when jack walks up to them the lighter is blown out) 28:11 (light turns on at end of hallway, creepy person contorts then light turns off) 28:25 (creepy person crawls at you with loud noise) 28:41 (gremlin tells u to wake up) I hope you guys enjoy the video partially stress free!
The scares in this game are masterful. I don't normally "JUMP", my heart just skips, but this game has me leaping. I can't even drink my coffee for fear of tossing it everywhere
I literally just exclaimed this to my roommate. Like at 12:38 I swear my skin leapt off for a half second and clung back to my body. Most games don't really do that for me, especially watching them lol.
the amount of times I’ve seen Jack say a joke and gets instant karma with a scare straight after is insane, his timing is impeccable and genuinely impressive😂
Never in my life was I caught off guard by a jumpscare before but that one at 12:38... I LITERALLY jumped backwards in my bed. I didn't know this could happen to me lol
Sign on the building reads as 'miru mir' and translates as 'peace for the world'. Dima is watching Kuplinov, one of the most popular Russian letsplayers. As for the apartment, it looks and feels exactly like an old soviet apartment in some small town minus the spooks, devs made a good work recreating the look and the atmosphere :) But what they really need is a good translator, too many mistakes :) Thanks for playing it, Jack!
@@glynsareia maybe. But this is also a very popular saying in USSR and Russia in general, I think it originated as a reaction/responce to WW2 horrors, but now it is a very common phrase in russian language
@@glynsareia it is a soviet slogan, and sometimes it can be found buildings in Russia. However, I can assume (or I hope) that this sign in game is a reference and an anti-war statement by the devs.
I cannot get enough of Jack playing indie horror games...like seriously I'm no longer certain that watching a chilla's art game doesn't give me a straight-up endorphin hit at the title screen
Watching this game as someone who's from a post-soviet country was one of the funniest experiences to me: the meta and little details of hruschevka-styled apartments are absolutely on top, not to mention the Kuplinov letsplay playing in the background at the very end.
THANK YOUUU!!! I legit have to avoid jump scares because it can be a bit triggering and EVERYONE in the comments was talking about them but not giving any time stamps so thank youuuuu
@Magnificent Gamer ! I'm not a very vocal person lol. I think I've yelled/screamed *once* at a jump scare and it was like the stupidest most obvious one *years* ago from one of Mark's playthroughs. Not even Outlast. I'm like the opposite, all my holes are too clenched to let out a peep or a poop.
most jumpscares don't do more than startle me, but omfg something about this particular game had me SO ON EDGE... even with sean joking about it to take the scary factory down a notch
I like to think Jack is our Russian Mc's friend who is visiting and panicking at all the obvious super natural stuff while his buddy is just stone faced calmly continuing to clean up like nothing is happening
This is definitely a bit weird to say but Jack looks extra charming today, just the earrings, the hair, the clothes and everything is so well put together
Dude, as a viewer from Russia I'm telling you, the amount of Easter eggs in this game is huge. I was really surprised when the computer screen turned on and I saw the intro to the biggest Russian let's play RU-vidr (Kuplinov). Love you and your content Sean❤️, you are one of the bright lights in this dark time for me.
It wasn’t a dream. Because.. At 28:47 and forward, until the end, you will notice the elf doll sitting on the chair watching the letsplay. If it was all a dream, it shouldn’t be there, should it?
22:48 "I used to be fine with jumpscares, and now they all get me so bad!" SAME oh my god, the older I've gotten the more jumpy I am. Because I keep flinching at the jumpscares in this vid, my stepdad actually asked if I was okay and said I was going to give myself a heart attack lmao
Honestly I know a lot of people say that jumpscares are kinda cheap in horror games, but these ones were soooo good. What WAS cheap was the "it was all a dream" cop out in the end. Still enjoyable, but I thought there was going to be some creepy explanation for all the bodies in Christmas wrapping and stuff.
omg, this is the first time I've had so much fun with a Russian horror game. The mentions of Kuplinov (letsplayer in the video) and Marmok (the one who voice we were hearing while washing dishes, also a blogger) were especially amusing. In fact, I live in an apartment, what looks almost the same as this one (I wonder if the creators of the game themselves drew all these models of basic items for a typical Russian family - a wall clock in the form of a wristwatch, a carpet on the wall with a pattern like the one on my carpet, packs of food soda, salt, condensed milk, sofa ...) Although you say that the apartment looks scary and you suppose that they are starving, in fact, the protagonist has a family of average income in Russia and an apartment perhaps even above average (I mean a two-room apartment with a huge glazed balcony, size rooms are also large, the computer looks modern enough for average family in Russia). Yeah, people in our country mostly quite poor, hah. The ending with the fact that these are all nightmares from some foreign game played by Kuplinov is also logical, because in Russia there are no legends about elves, we don’t hang socks for the New Year nights, and the New Year itself is celebrated at the end of December (and autumn in the game has just started). Moreover, all these quick drastical changes in rooms do not raise questions this way.
I love Emika games as a studio and you should definitely play Father's Day when you get the chance! Great story and jumpscares. Great video as always Jack!
Definitely a long shot for you to see this but your videos have helped me getting through my husband’s deployment!! He comes home this week!! Your videos are amazing and always make me laugh, thank you for what you do! ❤️
Damn, Jacks new look be doing things to me. Also what a great selection of horror games we've had, these last two have been some of the best indie horrors I've seen
@@mxbubbles4753 ok sure, personally I found it very dependant on jump scares, and the logic in the game was gone af. Good level design yes but this is not always enough.
To be fair, these jump scares are excellently done! Usually I just gasp, jump and then laugh, but these ones gave me such a visceral reaction. I felt myself pulling away from the screen to get away 🤣
I love how these developers make games in which the main character completely ignores all the weird paranormal stuff that’s going on to compete a list of household chores. GREAT WRITING.
@@VandelayH but also the whole "oh it was a bad dream....... sike it was all real and jumpscare ending" is even more cliche by this point so im kinda glad it ended the way it did.
growing up in a post-soviet country, this is sooo spot on with the aesthetic. the layout is similar to my great grandma´s ouse, we had that exact cabinet set. it really adds to the creepiness, to find nostalgic elements while horror is happening
12:38 don’t worry Seán I got way more scared at the jump scare than you did I was shaking like I was going to die which never happens to me with jumpscares.
Jacks lois impresion of "the horse is here" is really damn good, I also really like this game I love how well the jumpscares are timed like they give you a sense of safty then bam but I don't like how such cheap jumpscares get me I never get scared at these types of games but this one is really well done
I’m really loving the direction Seàn is going in with his horror videos these past few months, they’re so fun to watch and you can tell he genuinely enjoys making them. :3
Man, this brings back so many memories... My childhood went in one of those neighborhoods. It's kinda eerie that, looking back now, I can actually say those were happy days... despite all the filth around
It's been sooo long since I actually jumped to a scary game. Most are too predictable or cliché filled. This got me every time, the timed spacing of jumpscares was perfect
My god. Have I really just lived to a moment where Kuplinov Play, Marmok and jacksepticeye appear in the same video... AND Sean gives the actual "yabat' "??? I guess I might be at peace now
At 12:38 when jack went through the door I felt like I jumped and almost had a heart attack with him😭 we both just laughed at ourselves for getting scared 😭
This is the first video in a long time to actually make me jump with you jack . Thank you so much I gotta throw my whole bed out from absolutely shitting myself lol jk . Love your videos.
As someone Eastern european it's very weird. Cause on one hand they are writing in Russian but at the same time i have lived in an apartment like that. Even the graffiti are similar. It's like the game is in like a flat i can go rn and find. Also i have exactly that same cabinets. They are from the communist times but still in use.
Didn't know I needed Jack screaming YABAT' so much in my life right now xD also it's funny that he compares russian broom (venik) with a sage, never thought of it, but it really reminds it.
12:37 Omg I haven't had a jumpscare like that in such a long time! It scared me so much my hand smacked the top of my desk as I jumped up lol. I really didn't see it coming and the loud sound that came with it just brought it to the next level
