Every super sonic boss gives sonic 100 rings at the start, no matter how many rings you had in the previous stage, probably because starting with 5 or so would make the battle last 2 seconds
@@DAGzex was just about to comment that lol, but we're also getting new updates like challenge mode, photo mode, jukebox, more playable characters and a new story
Cannotically Amy was introduced in Sonic CD. Her character bio said she used Tarot cards. It was lost to history for a while then reintroduce in the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog series. One of the story writers for the game Ian Flynn is one of the writers for the IDW series. You'll see there are a few additional things he has carried over making some of the newer lore from the comics cannon in the game.
She also apparently can use her ESP to turn invisible in 06 lol And I have a theory that shes using ESP to enhance her strength and her hammer (given she gives off hearts when using it, and gives off hearts when using her floating move in sonic heroes) That may be why she leans so heavily on love, love likely gives her power
Nothing couldve emptionally prepared me for the boss themes to be metalcore tracks with Kellin quinn. I went in blind and got fucking jump scared by that shit lol. The first one was super catchy already and then I hit the wyvern fight and they said fuck it, we are going in on the scream vocals. Not to mention the credits being a One OK Rock song. This whole OST is culture as fuck. I find it really funny that the original uncensored lyrics of vandalize say "fuck the pain away, my bed is in ruins". Like damn, okay sonic?
Sonic has had canonical cussing in its songs since -Shadow the Hedgehog- I think S3&K actually, although I dont think they can get away with an F bomb in game and still be E so that’s why it’s censored lol But they’ve slipped smaller cuss words in the music Before and no one notices lol
Most people don't even do this, but if you click the x and a buttons like it says, it will switch to a cutscene of sonic literally picking up the titan and throwing it against the mountains. Dope as hell Edit: I'm wrong, that's for the second boss. But still, people miss a lot while playing these bosses.
Yeah there's some crazy cool hidden cutscenes/moves when fighting all the titans that you only really see if you take it slow, doing too much damage can straight up skip them. I've seen so many people miss the yeeting Wyvern across the map one it's sad.
@@hwanniggles187 I don’t really see how it shows that, although it is often true. At the same time, sonic has been deserving it recently. Hopefully frontiers is a sign of things to come.
I'm extremely surprised Charlie did not know that was Kellin of SWS when he has listened to metalcore and posthardcore. SWS was insanely fucking huge at one point in early RiseRecords days.
@@CYAN_TOP_HAT its janky af its not worth 70 dollar lol. I know its great that you guys got finally a decent sonic game but, do not glorify it and oversell it. lol
A song being that heavy in a Sonic game is about as much of a shock as the game itself, which says a lot. Edit: yes, I played other Sonic games, namely a little bit of the first 3 games, The Fighters, Adventures 1 & 2, a bit of Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog, Riders & Zero Gravity, '06, Secret Rings and Black Knight. I know soundtracks from some of those games go hard, I just didn't expect them to go *this* hard. Not quality-wise, mind you, I could name better songs from those other OSTs. Live And Learn, With Me, Infinite Possibilities, Un-Gravitify, What I'm Made Of, It Has Come To This, I Am All Of Me, It Doesn't Matter, that City Escape theme in SA2, a lot of the track themes from Riders and Zero Gravity (especially Metal City, Egg Factory, Green Cave, and The Core, to name a couple), I could go on, really. Sonic songs go hard as fuck. I just didn't expect this is all.
@@trymetrix857 you've got to keep in mind that 90% of people have never touched a sonic game before, because of preconceived notions, and so any sonic game is like a new experience for em. this is coming from a sonic fan btw
@@trymetrix857 Crush 40 is more Metal while Kellin Quinn's Vocals is Screamo more like the 'Emo' stuff rather than rock/metal your dad listens too which is old Sonic Music both great tbh
Damn bro, if only there was a feature explicitly used to *_lock_* the camera in place *_on_* a specific target, or something. Oh well, guess we'll have to pray for an update or some DLC or something.
I didn’t mind the camera being away from the titan cause I noticed there’s a little white squiggle in the direction of the enemy if they’re about to attack so I pay attention for that and parry if need be
These are like ultimate spectacle fights. Since you're totally invincible it's all about what you do to advance the fight. And if you're like me you stop wailing on the bosses because you're super overpowered and wanna hear the music
Nope. My monkey brain decided to only melee down giganto on my first attempt. It was on my second attempt I used the Sonic boom attacks, but had the standard 100 rings. After that I cylooped to max out my rings. Regardless, the fight, while a little jank, cool as cool can be.
I watched a certain let's player die to it while completely ignoring the games tutorials and then complaining that he didn't know what to do. He was throwing salt the entire time he was playing so that kinda felt good, not gonna lie, though I was sad to see many of his fans copy his opinion 1-to-1 without putting in any critical thinking themselves.
The fortune card reading line is a reference to a scene from the comics. The new writer for this game has been writing the comics for years and years which is why there's so many references to both the comics and past games
Amy doing fortune card readings is a cool idea but I feel like it was also barely touched upon until the sonic origins cutscene, which means Charlie probably isn’t the only one confused by sonic’s sudden mention of it.
@@QwerpOS I think he means the Sonic series overall, like character data, the IDW comics, etc. It's been brought up in those mediums that Amy does tarot card readings. This was first brought up in her character info in Sonic CD, where she makes her first appearance. I think this is the first time in a mainline Sonic game that has outright mentioned she does this. If you're not a hard-core Sonic fan, you wouldn't know this.
@@markofthewolvessucks8930 ugh, don't remind me. it's almost as bad as "IT'S DOING A WARPING ARM ATTACK!" "BE CAREFUL SONIC!" "IT'S SLOWING DOWN TIME!" "THE FLOW OF TIME WILL BE RESTORED!"
Coming from a big fan of action games who doesn't usually play sonic, the best way to make any great boss fight, is to make it what you've been doing in the rest of the game but better. Frontiers combat doesn't have a ton of depth but it's free-form, and full of spectacle, so just add flying and giant bosses.
For all it's flaws. This is the most ambitious sonic game in a long time and a great baseline. The future is looking brighter for the franchise than it has in a long time
It is, lots of jank but it’s actually so damn fun to go around the open zones. As a life long sonic fan it’s good to see a sonic game being positively received again.
@@timklafke4712 Even some of the best Sonic games have jank, it's kinda part of the brand at this point, but at least it's not Sonic 06/Boom levels of jank and doesn't fail where Sonic Forces does. Frontiers may genuinely be the best of the series to date.
Actual yes Amy is a spiritual person. She new she would first meet Sonic through Tarot cards. So much of Sonic’s history and the characters have been ruined in the past ten years because of the shitty writers. It’s all been forgotten by the general public.
@@vaewr2671Ken Penders got overly protective of his characters and his own plotlines and let his ego get in the way of other people's stories. For the COMICS. He had nothing to do with the poor direction of the games.
Yup. Hope people also check out Kellin's other work (and of the band, SWS) and his solo project Downer Inc. and the album. Some people might enjoy Crosses a lot, for example.
Ngl, never in my life would I have imagined that the spiritual successor to MGR is Sonic of all things. Needless to say, it doesn't matter how awful or good the game is, somehow they always manage to make banger OSTs
This game is a huge step in the right direction! I’m a huge adventure fan but honestly I’d prefer them to keep moving forward in this new direction and keep perfecting what works here even over an SA3
@@TheEmperorRaidou don't worry, i LOVE sonic, also charlie's pretty based anyways, people can have their own opinions just saying if he didn't really care about sonic games before and THIS ONE grabs his attention, then it's pretty noteworthy also gonna note my fav game is unleashed, i was just trynna be funny
I wonder how painful a level 1 challenge on hard mode would be in this game.. def gonna try it when i beat my first run of it. really enjoying the hell out of this game! the gap between sonic forces and frontiers is about as big if not bigger than one AU (astronomical unit: distance between earth and the sun) the bar isnt really high with forces ofc but i think this is something all long time sonic fans can appreciate. this game is clearly just a new experiment from sega/sonic team but this can take the series in the right direction it's needed to go in for sooo many years.
YESS you get it!! like its not perfect but hell if it doesnt make me happy as a long-time sonic fan. man, seeing the accolades trailer they dropped today with all the fantastic reviews actually made me cry lol because we're finally going in the right direction after so long... i missed this so much
"you cried over a review trailer?" the euphoria of having an excellent game after so many mid or shitty ones and putting sonic back in a positive light got to me, okay
Yeah never saw someone lose the first boss like that. I think it comes with the misunderstanding of how parties work. Sonic can just hold the parry button as long as he wants to parry and attack. Of course this is emphasized during Wyverin fight but that’s it. The game doesn’t do the best in explaining parry since it says “time it” when you don’t have to at all.
I actually discovered this fact in a random loading screen tip Been tryna time my parries up to that point. Hey, still some good timed parry practice regardless lol
5:41 Charile: would be really upsetting if I have to do the whole fight again 😐 *back to beginning of fight* Charlie: I have to do the whole fight again😐
People sayin it's strange the music is so good obviously haven't been paying attention. That's the ONE thing sonic team does do right every time. Even 06 spawned his world. Arguable the best sonic theme ever. This is no surprise, it's expected now. The movies goin stupid ass mumble rap is annoying as hell.
I love the middle ground they went to here Sonic games are renound for their huge Super Sonic finishes (Usually. Looking at you Lost World... Among a few others) But with the developers wanting to do more, leaving him for the bosses of the islands was a great choice
Aside from being a bit disappointed in Supreme and being REALLY let down by The End (an arcade ship shooter but ONLY if you beat the game on hard, seriously SEGA?), the bosses in this game are awesome. Each revolve around elements of Frontiers' combat to make fighting them all unique (Giganto is all about comboing, Wyvern is a test of speed, and Knight is all about parrying). Great way to bring Super Sonic back into relevance after so many years.
Hey Sega, that Zig Zag move that Sonic does, stop facing the camera towards the sky and towards the enemy. Holy hell. Also, was I the only person to try out as many moves as possible on all of the bosses? My absolute favorite is the circle of spheres attack and the one speed attack where you can throw the enemies up into the air including the bosses. And this game has a killer soundtrack. I'm hoping that the future Sonic Frontiers content will let you replay the boss fights.
it wouldeve been so badass if sonic had a proper animation for being launched away, before bursting back into combat, instead of awkwardly freezing far away and then drifting towards again
@@lambousginiguccigod2007 won doesn't automatically mean he's stronger tho. Sonic was clearly fatigued by the fight with Knight and even Tails was worried for a sec
@@silverfan9611 I think getting lifted into the sky and getting folded means whoever did that shit is stronger LOL. He even took on his full on slash and (1)caught it then (2) kicked it away. Super sonic>over all titains
Did you read the instructions during the loading screen? You don't need to time the parry just before an incoming attack - just keep holding the buttons until the attack is parried. So many people ask what they're doing wrong, and the answer is that they're not reading the instructions right in front of their faces.
Just completed the game last night. I LOVED it! My favorite sonic game ever, i mean 60 FPS sonic is 🔥 All the boss battles are amazing. Love some of the tougher enemies on the last map. Can't wait to see sonic frontiers 2!
Lol it always gives me so much anxiety watching someone play a Sonic game who doesn't usually play sonic games. From my perspective they play so awful at first but it's actually just them naturally learning and gaining experience.
