Thanks. I only needed to replace the HDMI port cover (after one of the plastic "latches" broke off), and your video gave me confidence in removing the cover screws and easing the side out enough to slip the cover out and hook the new one in.
Thank you so much - Yes! people are still looking at this video. Bought new RX100M3 in 2018 and dropped it on floor in first week. Bent the lens and it would not retract. Sending off for repair was too expensive. After watching your videos I bought replacement lens on ebay and installed it today. Used both videos to do this. Thx for pointing out the clear spacer that goes behind speaker. Because of that I knew what it was when it fell out. For anyone else - I also had a small black piece that came out when I took hinged LCD off. It took forever to figure out where it came from. It is an edge cover that clips over the LCD frame in front of where the (shocking) capacitor nodes are. Identified it from sony service manual DSC-RX100M3 L2 document. Again - thanks for taking the time to document this camera breakdown. My new lens is installed and working great.

Hello , thank you very much for your videos on the rx100m3 .. i replace the lens ,after dropping the camera. then in replacing the lens ( one bad lens from HK ) in taken the bad lens out . I damaged the LCD Ribbon cable .. replaced that .. now have two small parts , small metal part 1/4" long by 1/8 round . and small black plastic.. but after 4 month or working on it .. looks like the camera works ... so thank you..
I screwed up my camera yesterday but thank you anyway for this upload. Without this I would've stood a chance in hell. Will buy another RX100 m3. Atleast when that breaks down I'll have some spare parts.
Great videos and an excellent resource. While replacing the whole front assembly on my 100 iii a small piece of clear plastic dropped out of the camera. It's about 3/8" long by 1/4" wide and slightly "T" shaped. I've no idea where this piece goes. Can you help please.

I disassembled my M2 some months ago with a video from youtube. Unfortunately it's not longer online so I am now stuck with a piece of cable (white) with a green board YKC05V-0 Fr-4 94-V that got detached from the camera and I have no idea where it goes. Can you help??
you have to disassemble the whole camera. everything is built into the front case. after removing the lens ( like in this video ) you have to remove the battery compartment, top control panel and anything else that the new case doesn't come with.
if it doesn't go away after putting it in a dry place then you might have to replace the lens. to take the lens apart to do any cleaning is a real job. even trying to get the lens glass clean back to the way it was new is hard and dam near impossible.. believe me i have tried. replacement is the best choice here.
Great work on the video. My LCD is black but the viewfinder works. I don't see anything with bright light. I replaced the LCD twice, Cable twice and the Controller board twice and still it is not working. What else can it be? Do you receive cameras via shipping and repair them?
wow... i dont know. could be the main board. i have no way of testing a board. all i can do is swap parts to diagnose. im not a camera repair shop but i have taken many sony rx100's apart to replace lenses etc. and just offering people a service to replace parts for cheap.
@@daves.projects Thanks for your reply. The main board seems expensive. The reason I didn't think it was the main board is because the view finder and the rest of the camera works.

I replaced the main motherboard on an sony rx100III but now I need service adjustment software ...also when changing lens it is need to recalibrate with that software...do you have it, could send it? it is about adjustment manual soft, adjustment station and most important seus ex with hasp key.
I do not have software. I have swapped lenses, main boards, and other components without this problem. these were used parts so maybe new never used part need this i dont know.
@@daves.projects I changed motherboard and now the stabilization is malfunction making double image instead of stabilizing ...if I turn it off it is ok....also the exposure it is off need -2, -3 compensation.... I think the inertial sensors need calibration from the new board to old lens also the exposure. The motherboard it is also old one not new.
@@Sorin_F sounds like to me the cable contacts need to be cleaned. they should be bright and shinny not dull. i have seen them get dull frosted and not make good contact. brush them with a scotch like cloth. ( not cross ways )
I am replacing the lens .and a small black plastic came out 1/4" x 1/4" and I cannot find where it goes... would like to replace it .. before closing up the camera ... if anyone had a part breakdown .. or a link to one that would be great... thanks for you time
i have a problem of very light photos on my cam, video is normal. Can disassembly help me to fix the problem, or i need to replace the whole sensor? How do you think
do you mean over exposed photo ? might be the aperture is stuck. put the camera on aperture priority look down the lens and move the f stop thru the range, can you see the aperture move? might just need the lens. not the sensor.

first get a bright light with the camera on and in menu put the bright light up to the LCD and see if you can see the menu. if you can see the menu then its just the backlight, and might just be the backlight cable. see one of my LCD replacement videos in playlist. it will show the backlight cable.
Hi, dropped my rx100mk2 and now it wont switch on at all no power no green light, I have opened it up as far as taking the circuit board of on the right side of the of the lens but I cant see anything loose or broken. Have you got any ideas what my be the problem. I appreciate it could be a number of things, just wondering if there is a common problem. thanks
the power cable are on the back side of the main board. the cable is a push in flat cable, very tight. dont see a drop effecting it. could be the battery contacts inside the battery compartment. it clips into the top with the cable running out to the main board. a good drop could un-clip the contacts, look inside the battery compartment and see if the contacts are loose or not lining up with battery contacts. a little loose is normal.
no. its two pieces. one, the battery compartment. two, the contacts that clips to the top of battery compartment, the cable for the contacts is soldered on the battery end it then runs to the main board and pushes in a connector. is there damage to the body ?
Nothing, I have just taken it apart again and this time I took the battery compartment out and the circuit broad out under the power button to see if that was damaged but everything seems okay I have put it back together, but still no power. I am baffled
I dropped my M3 and dented the lens end barrel, everything still works and I can find a replacement part A2080831A online, any ideas how hard it would be to replace? Would I have to tear down the whole lens assembly?

I have a M3. Repair shop said my lens control circuit is fried because the image stablizer overheated. Lens control circuit is on backorder with no eta. Any suggestions where to get one? part# Sn-4175-567-0000
there are five main components. the lens, motherboard, control board, popup viewer and the battery compartment. it would not make any sense to repair any of these components when its cheaper and faster to just swap the bad component out for a new one. i have never heard of a image stabilizer over heating or fried control circuit. but if so that would mean you need a lens and the main board. as the image stabilizer that over heated is in the lens and the control circuit is on the main board. i have no idea what this part number is or where to get one.
Hey, excellent video! Very helpful and informative. I have this same camera except mine is a Mark 1, so first generation DSC-RX100 camera. My lcd screen is cracked and needs to be replaced on it. There is power to the screen, it still lights up but is just a bunch of colorful vertical lines. I wanted to ask you if you would be able to replace the LCD screen on my camera for me if possible. @@daves.projects No, my camera doesn't lock up, it functions fine. It's just that the screen is all cracked and just that it needs the LCD screen replaced as you shown in your other video that I also commented on.

Hey I recently dropped my camera in the water, I followed your instruction up til 15 minutes and I heard 2 silver clips falling out and I have no idea where they were attached to! :( I need some help
Linux & Other Stuff. ring brings up the arc on screen with zoom stop indicators but it won't zoom. Lever feels normal, as in it turns, springs back, etc. I almost thought a setting got fouled up but none of the zoom settings seem to help.
Thanks. I'll check that out. I half wonder if a cable got jarred loose. My son slightly dinged the camera recently when it swung into a wall (write strap in place). I hadn't associated that event with the timing of losing zoom, because everything else works fine. maybe a possibility.
I made it through this "replacement tear down" video and didn't see anything out of order. Got shocked just before you said to tape over that one spot. haha. Checked out your link to the other video where you had to solder the new lens cable in places. Is it part of the lens cable that controls the zoom motor? I see where you pointed out a crack/crease in the cable. Which part number is the lens cable? is it A-2045-283-A? you refer to a "ccd" video, which I presume is where you tear down the lens cable. Which video is that? Weighing my options: try to replace lens cable, replace whole lens, send it to you, or send it to sony, or live with no zoom.
Thank you for your excellent videos. I used them to successfully disassemble and re-assemble my RX100M3. They proved extremely helpful. I was looking for signs of physical internal damage after e:91:01 (flash charging error) began appearing. I had dropped the camera whilst in case but on hard surface just a few hours before and also spent whole day outdoors in very wet conditions, therefore it's unlikely to be covered by the warranty even though it's only a couple of months old. The camera seems to work perfectly (except error prevents flash operation) but I can't get rid of error message. I managed to buy a service manual (not directly from Sony) which states: 1-7. PROCESS AFTER FIXING FLASH ERROR When “FLASH error” (Self-diagnosis Code E : 91 : 01) occurs, to prevent any abnormal situation caused by high voltage, setting of the flash is changed automatically to disabling charge and flash setting. After fixing, this setting needs to be deactivated. Method for Initializing the Flash Error Code Reset Flash Error using the Flash Error Repair Tool Ver_[].[].exe.
Sorry, I meant to finish my lengthy post off with the following question: The manual seems to suggest that for this particular model there is no way to reset this error simply by activating a factory reset from the menu, even though tech support FAQ's routinely suggest this as the first thing to try. I have searched all over the internet for this tool without success. Do you know how I might get it?
I dont know it may be a tool sony has. the only thing i do is replace parts with known working part to diagnose. you might see if you can find the complete flash part on ebay and swap it out.
I bought a lot of about 200 HX9's years ago that they all needed repairs some just needed LCD's others with this flash code. I have repaired some sony HX9 with this same flash code just by replacing the flash part. you might want to try that.
