That’s crazy to me I think this was the worst by a long shot and I’d say it sucked the life out. Production is too clean, her vocals are not country and you can really hear the 13 years that has passed on her voice. Can’t blame her for not sounding like she’s 20 anymore though haha just saying I can really hear the difference in a bad way
@BaltoDork
@BaltoDork Год назад
@@elstovon tbh a lot of us prefer her matured voice, and I like the more spacious production. as for the accent I think a lot of people picked up on the fact that it was forced a bit and not really genuine so I don't mind the twang being gone on most songs. I'll need her to fake it til she makes it again on her debut though. I love Red TV but it had differences that were more jarring to me honestly. I will say about the country voice being gone or whatever, this was always my favorite album for the pop rock elements more than me being a fan of country so that probably has a lot to do with it.
@elstovon
@elstovon Год назад
@@BaltoDork I don’t like her older voice at all I guess I’m in the minority. I grew up on these albums (as I’m sure you did too not trying to act like I’m special for that haha) and listened hundreds of times so of course it’s hard for me to let go of things I love about the old versions when listening to the new ones. I don’t really care if the twang is forced or whatever because my philosophy always has been if something is good it’s good and I don’t care what the intentions or artistic merit was behind it as long as I love it, not that I expect everyone to agree. But even outside of that the songs just do not pack a punch like they used to. Dear John and Haunted are primary examples for me. I don’t think I can listen to those knowing how much better the OG is

You know how people ask that question “If you could listen to one of your favorite albums again for the first time, what would it be?” I just keep thinking how LUCKY Taylor Swift fans are, because so many of them get to do just that. Speak Now is my favorite Taylor Swift album, and the album that pretty much instantly solidified her as one of my favorite songwriters of all time from the moment I heard “You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter” on the opening track like 13 years ago. Dear John is my favorite song she’s ever written and one of my favorite songs of all time in general. It’s one of my favorite albums… and we get to hear it for the first time all over again? Speak Now is the best Taylor record. It has energy and dance-ability and she had basically totally dropped any pretense of being a country artist at that point. It also puts her wordiness on display, which is one of my favorite qualities of her as a songwriter. Just listen to how many words she crams into the choruses all over this thing. I didn’t like when she started working with outside songwriters and doing simple pop choruses, Red had a few and 1989 was even worse. I think this is an awesome undertaking. Taylor is industrious, generous and an incredible workhorse as an artist. However.. the music suffers here from losing a lot of its county flavor. The contrast of her sharp, observational lyrics and deceptively complex song structures against the confines of the country “twang” gives the music an edge that makes it quietly, almost politely subversive. Which is to say.. I love that Taylor did this, and I look forward to whatever other projects she has in mind like this. But Speak Now was my entrance into her little - now humongous- world, and I’ll never lose my connection to that first time I heard “Mine” and it knocked me down a flight of stairs emotionally. You can replace a lot of things, but even Taylor can’t replace that aching feeling her original chords stirred in my soul.

But that is good, bc i will listen to these as original releases, not TV, and i can now add more songs with TVs, so it's a + anyway Vault tracks are some of my favs of each, such as Message in a Bottle, I Can See You and the underrated Electric Touch (even tho Fall Out Boy ruins it...)

I like the original BTR and how it really encapsulates the teenage girl experience that’s part of the album overall, she was mad as hell and I loved it at the time. It was also a pretty natural progression from the YBWN video and way most of us young fans at the time had identified with her. However, I feel like Taylor needed to change it to avoid the thinkpieces about her being a slut shaming antifeminist etc given how much scrutiny she’s under right now. I don’t blame her and I think I’d also be embarrassed to look back on it as a grown woman now. Anyway, I agree that as a huge swiftie this really showcased how much she’s grown now as songs on Evermore for example feel like night and day regarding the maturity and lyrical quality. I liked the album (I’m a huge swiftie) but relistening with this really showed me how much *I’ve* grown up as it felt a bit like listening to Olivia Rodrigo’s very black and white, “cool guy” “teenage dream” etc stuff is just not fully for me at my grown age. And that’s okay.

With "Speak Now" being my favorite Taylor album, I was highly anticipating Taylor's version, and it did not disappoint! My favorite song (and of Taylor's, overall) is "Mean". I think it's a great country/bluegrass number with a great message about bullying/criticizing someone, no matter who you are. As for "Better Than Revenge", it's always been my least favorite track on the album, so I skip it on this version, too. Other highlights include "Mine", "Sparks Fly", "Back to December" and even "Innocent", which was written in response to Kanye's infamous interruption at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Overall, "Speak Now (TV)" showcases some of Taylor's best songwriting, as well as the maturity in her voice, and I really wish she'd go back to singing country again, because it's my favorite era of hers (her self-titled album to her "Red" album).

I honestly have to say at first I was very much disappointed in the rerecord mostly because i held it to such a high standard since it is my favorite album of hers, but also because i was on 2 hours of sleep so i was feeling very excited but also super grumpy. Now that it sat with me for a while i love it. The songs i never cared for haven't changed much, unfortunately one of my favorite songs "haunted" feels a lot less agressive and filled with a lot less drama. "I can see you" is by far my favorite vault track of hers, it feels so sexy, secretive and smooth. Overall, it's the least "Note for note" rerecord so far, but the vocal improvement especially in the highnotes and vocals runs fills me with joy. Could she have done "better" and been more faithful to the originals? Yes, of course, but i am overall very very pleased with how everything went down. The last step to swiftie fullfillment is to secure tickets in tomorrows presale to see her next year in germany, wish me luck

I think she's rerecorded all the albums during the pandemic. That's why she was able to release 'wildest dreams', on cue, when it was getting popular on tiktok. Additionally, when some film used 'this love' as its soundtrack, she provided the Taylor's version for it.

As a big fan of Taylor and Speak Now being one of my favorite albums, I was not SUPER happy with the production. I did find that having Volume Normalization turned on in Spotify muted a lot of the sound and it was improved after hearing it, but I still wish her voice was not so much louder than the instrumentals. I did love the vault tracks, tho

haunted tv bugs me SOO MUCH…idk why but in the first verse, there’s this echo that persists the entire time and it doesn’t fit at all… also, by putting more emphasis on the bass and drums during throughout the song, she’s removing the chorus’ punch which is what made the original song so great
