Every August it happens. From out of the ashes of an abandoned old store rises a glorious sight - Spirit Halloween. We usually build most of our Halloween props and decor, but we’ve been wanting to get some Halloween Animatronics so we decided to check out what they had. We really wanted to see some of the big props like the Bog Zombie and Nozzles the Clown in person. We were not disappointed. Not only did they have really cool animatronics, but they had some amazing Halloween props and decorations as well.
They had a bunch of cool decorations from The Haunted Mansion, Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Trick ‘r Treat. They also had the usual suspects - tombstones, fog machines, masks, makeup, and Halloween costumes galore. We got to see Shorty from Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Grim the animatronic skeleton, and Barry the caged zombie in person. They didn’t have Lord Raven out for display, but it was available for purchase.
We weren’t planning out it, but we ended up getting a bunch of stuff! We can’t wait to show you our haul and do some unboxings of our new animatronics!

I've not really bothered much with Spirit the last few years because they got so lazy on a lot of their animatronics and props, then sold them for way too more than they were worth. I was halfway amped for Halloween last year, which is way lower than usual, but life was kinda bringin me down, ya know, like it does sometimes. Anyway, I live in an apartment, and don't really have friends over, so I was really only going to decorate around my front door. I was going to have a Necromancer casting a spell to bring someone back from the dead. So I had the Necromancer pretty much ready, as well as the grave, which was mostly just red fairy lights under a camo netting thing. It looked pretty good. The main piece was the cauldron that was going to have a green lit infinity mirror with fog coming out, but I could never get it to look as good as I wanted. Then I just kinda gave up. *shrug* Maybe I'll try again this year.

I used their "beef netting" last year for a large spider display between two large trees. It comes without the holes so you can customize it. It looked great. I also have the older brown jumping spider. He was just new enough to be able to hook him into Spirit's multi remote system, and he works great with that. I have their older stand up scarecrow, the jumping spider and the ghost rocking chair (I took it apart and rebuilt it on a real front porch rocking chair), and two foggers all on remote now. All for the one kid who comes to our house for the big night.... In CA we would have 300-400 kids, now in NC - 1... but that kid gets a great show, and a box of full sized candy bars...

I have the jumping Scarecrow! He's a hit every year. Now, I've had him for 10 years and last year he did stop working, sadly. I would recommend him. I also have the little gril on the swing, not the one you guys showed in the video, bit very similar. She's also a hit.

@@EDKsurly basically non-existent. We have some cheap decorations at dollar stores & some places have so slight Halloween themed stuff but barely anyone decorates, mostly just kids dress up

Lol, I worked at Spirit 2 years in a row, and the swing girl was a pain to set up!!! She kept falling forward! It drove us all nuts!!! We ended up zip-tying her frame to the ropes on the sides, and she still had a forward tilt!!! 🤬 Btw, thank you for not exposing us to the store soundtrack!!! 😅

I used to work for Spencer Gifts distribution center, who owns Spirit Halloween. I would repair the broken animatronics prior to shipping them out or the ones that would be returned. If you buy an animatronic and it doesn't turn on, check the wiring connections. The most common issue is too much glue and is easily remedied by scraping some of it off.

The beef netting spider web they sell actually looks really good. I used it last year for my giant Sam's club spider and it looked great. I added some of the cotton classic webs to it for layering and everyone liked it, people always love to take pictures in our web.

Definitely customize Mr. Raven. He needs some dirtier fabric and some random black feathers on him. Also, I loved Killer Clowns from Outer Space - they were great with their theme (shadow puppets, cotton candy, etc.)

I got a chance to go to our local Spirit recently. I was grinning ear to ear the entire time i was in there. It's especially nice being able to go early before people rush out and start trying to buy stuff. Their mask selection is really good as well. They have a good selection with various types of lighting built into them. I picked up a couple skull masks and a light up lantern. Likely going to go back and pick up another lanter and see about some chains or other accessories. One thing too, some of the light up props have a "Try me" button, and that can be pulled out of the box, and it has 2 coin cell batteries in it, with a length of wire that plugs in to activate the prop. Those are probably worth saving for other things.

GRIM, GRIM, GRIM, GRIM, GRIM. ALL DAY! We actually made him into a White Walker for our GOT Haunt. And we can still use him as a skeleton in another year. His motions are Sick, lots of servos. Hands down rhe best S.H. animatronic other than the Harvester of Souls (we don't have that one, yet)

I LOVE Spirit. Its where we get all of our weapons for the defeated knights in our yard. We get our burned skeletons from Home Depot and dress em in distressed knight costumes.

So jealous! The Spirit stores haven't opened up in the Midwest yet! We're always behind a couple weeks from the coasts. 😞 I like the inflatables because they are large displays but can be stored in a shoe box. Biggest ones might take a boot box. Great for storage. And they aren't as scary to little kids. I try to have a fun yard that isn't too scary for little ones but the older kids still think it's cool. I'll be outside working on stuff and the neighbors will stop by to see what I'm up to and tell me that they are looking forward to seeing the yard.

I loved Lord Raven! Saw him in the store and loved him! He’s already cool, but could be way creepier with a make-under. I got the Bog Zombie, and he is really great! Going to take your tips, and make him even creepier… some mud, a bloody mouth, and fingertips…. And a big juicy brain in one hand! I’ll distress him more, but you’re right! He’s very detailed! I’ll be sure and show you the before and after! My theme is mostly new orleans, voodoo, bog monsters, snakes, and tons of spanish moss and creepy lighting! The lanters you made look awesome! Doing those this weekend.

I went through Spirit locally this year and took tons of pictures. I was also impressed by the animatronics and the sheer amount of options. The zombie babies definitely stood out. If (and when) I have the funds to drop $3000 on Halloween decorations, maybe next year I'm doing that. I would love to pillage Spirit for all the best stuff.

@@WickedMakers I wrote a how to survive a evil Klown attack book. It was punished once, but the company folded. I will be working on getting that back up for October. I had killer Klowns on in the background while I was writing and the soundtrack running at times as well. lol. I even got Lloyd Kaufman to do a cover blurb for me. Can’t wait to get that back online. We also most got Lord Raven but ended getting Baphomet instead yesterday. Looking online and seeing videos the costume seemed a little lacking so we got some extra cheese clothe to dress him up a little more which looks great now. A few years ago they had the pig butcher & they haven't had him since. I wish I would got him then. I did get lord raven ( you did an awsome job of upgrading him) and got the bag of bones. I think that will get a lot of people because of the quick action jumping up.
