Throughy enjoyed this video.subscribed to loads of garden youtubers but this is the only one I watch all the way through because he is the only one that gives me all the information I need step by step including products and dosing to have a go myself.

Love these videos, the best guides on the RU-vid for an easy to follow how to guide on lawn upkeep and renovation. I’d love it if you did a video on how to stop dog urine from causing dead patches. It’s the bane of my life 😂

Ive done similar videos.. you can search the channel, but there's a few ways.. dog rocks, ketchup (both sometimes work), then plenty of water.. and finally.. growing new grass in plant pots to easily transplant :)

Just completed my first renovation yesterday on my front lawn, 126m2 it was hard work! Two passes with scarifier, mowed, aerated, seeded and top dressed. Hard graft

Hi there, I'm a gardener from Bristol, I've been so inspired and learnt so much from you since I've been a subscriber and did my first lawn renovation (was quite nervous if honest) last week. Just wanted to thankyou for your easy to follow straight way of explaining everything. Could I ask if you have ever needed to you use a seed slotter? I've seen a few on RU-vid use a rotary seed slotter , that seem to cost quite a bit, and wondered if it's specialist or what your opinion is. Keep up the amazing and inspiring work and thanks again. Hi a budget one will be fine for occasional use but if it's for regular work try and stick to reliable brands.. I have used stihl, husqvarna and echo.. All reliable and good workhorses

I've got a clay soil and poor drainage. It's still looking a bit boggy today but I've scalped it, and scarified it seeded with a shady lawn grass seed top soiled (if i've skimped on anything it's this step) and I'm hoping for the best. I take some comfort in knowing this project here was left looking how you left this to settle and work... fingers crossed!

Hi 😊. No cake this time lol.. Shady seed will help but no seed is 100% effective (as far as I'm aware) in the shade as a lawn does need 3 hours of direct sun to be thriving

Hi.. Anywhere from £150 to £350 although I know some companies can easily be double that.. For me it's a half days job with the right tools. You'll need to cover your materials too.

Just about to do a full garden renovation myself, just finished getting the drainage problems in the lawn fixed . My question is about grass seed , my side lawn in the is about 1200m2 and even with me fixing the drainage it will still get damp ,is there any certain blend of grass seed that will be more tolerant to damp soil .. thanks and keep up the good work 👍👍

Hi. Fescue and bent mix will be fairly good but many grasses will develop deep roots if allowed

It should be a lot more than that, 20-25 sqm would be normal. Is that some ultra-fine compost ?

Depends on compost used... The one I use (lawnright.co.uk/compost) 1bag will do between 5 and 10 sq metres... Where's b and q verve goes much further but thinner and has small debris in it 😊

Hi, most should be pretty good.. I do like a dwarf rye grass for its darker Green colour, this one is also good www.hmseeds.co.uk/product-page/all-american-dark-green-lawn-grass-seed-mix. Just the seed covering of compost, and either netting or a lawn fleece. (the fleece covers completely)

A couple of questions If I may? 1) As my lawn is practically 50% moss - I'm minded to use Ferrous Sulphate to kill off my moss before scarifying - but have noticed that you don't use this. Is there any particular reason? 2) I note from your website that you use Fields #4 for top dressing when over-seeding - which is quite expensive. When using a compost roller - how much meterage coverage would you say you get from a 40L bag? I have 200m2 to cover and toying whether a bulk bag (750/1000) would be required. Many thanks.

Hi Andy I do apply the ferrous sulphate as part of their treatment schedules. So this guy would have had it done in the past month. But as a side note.. With the warmer temperatures and things starting to dry out the moss is gonna weaken anyway so my opinion is it's not essential to apply iron now in April.. The field 4 is really fine.. I get about 7 or 8 sq metres per bag so you'd need maybe 30 or so which is about a bulk bag give or take

@@andychapman3100 hi.. Broom yes.. That's how I did this lawn.. Not essential to roller in but it helps keep things in place in case of strong winds etc

@@LawnRight Got there, almost everything out and seed in. Looks grim right now but as we know, give it 6 weeks. The challenge is, I will be back in Spain long before then and new people wont be in the house until the end of May. It'll be growing like Topsy while I am away! 😁 I could get the neighbour's lawn guy to cut it during that time, but he is a bit of a scalper which won't do the new grass much good.🤔

Great video shaun👍 is it okay to add the pre seed fertiliser after the seed has been put down or is it best beforehand? Ive just overseeded my lawn after scarifying and top dressed but forgot to apply the pre seeder🫣 should I wait till it germinate or go over with it now?

Hi it's best to put down before seeds only so you don't disturb the seeds.. If careful you will be ok to do it now 😊😊

Awesome video. Interesting about tbe sandy soil issues you stated at the start. It looked more like a clay lawn based on the aeration core . Im making my lawn now. How much sand would you recommend for a shady lawn on a slope. I have rootzone which has a total of 80% sand and the rest silt then clay. Im mixing with pure fenland silt top soil. My aim is around 60% sand. I did a test of 50% sand but it feels like it could hold too much water in the winter but its hard to know. Im thinking a sandy loam is better than a loam.its hard to know until its done lol.

Hi.. Ultimately you can get normal soil to drain well but a rootzone mix should be just fine.. Once roots are established it'll all firm up. Golf courses are all sand and drain fast so you're in the right ball park

Hi, I've tillered my garden and flattened it with me feet so there is dips and places unlevel. Whats the next step? Is it plain top soil or is it top soil mixed with sand and compost and flatten and level it then put only top soil on top with light rake to create grooves in loose top soil and then put the grass seed down?

Hi that's certainly a good way.. You could even just rake what you've got, raking the high spots into the low spots.. Ultimately get it as flat as you can, seed then cover thinly.. If your lawn is clay sprinkle some gypsum down as well.

@LawnRight hi, I've done my garden but birds and pigeons are eating my grass seed. What's cheapest way to prevent it pls? Its only 6mtr x 2.5mtr garden. I put some netting down but i put it down to the floor. I've then seen others use compost but seems expensive to compost it? I did think about those 2 by 2 wooden spikes but it would leave big holes. From what ive seen even when u put netting the birds fly onto it so it would need something strong to hold it

Renovated my back lawn today, scarafied, cut then levelled out with Bathgate fine lawn top dressing,excellent gear, then overseeded, layer of compost then covered with fleece and now im in agony with my back lol, but i know in a few weeks I'll be all worth it.😂

Thing to note. Be careful sitting your tripod on a sloping lawn. 🙂 lots of great information as usual. Once the seed is down and covered you can apply some liquid seaweed if you don’t have Emerald Green. I shall be over seeding a section of my lawn tomorrow as Spring is here I think.

Hahahahaha the shameless plug bit made me crack up 😂. You mentioned something in the video which I believe is what I have a lumpy lawn. When I walk over it, I feel these lumps rather than a level surface. I was going to kill the lawn and then start all over again because my lawn has been run over by weeds :( but I would also like to fix these lumps. My lawn is about 20 feet wide and 70 feet long. What's the best way to get rid of these lumps without spending too much money? Please advise. Thanks

Hi!! Try a good scarify first.. Sometimes it's literally clump grasses that are left.. Other than that you'll need to rake or brush soil into the dips but only a few cm worth at a time so it doesn't smother the grass.. Then wist for the grass to grow through the soil and add more
