I'm nearing the end of my NV4500 swap, and it's time to install the transfer case. Watch me put this NP208 transfer case up with my bare hands as I install a transfer case without a jack. In case you missed it in the video...I highly recommend installing the transfer case BEFORE you put the transmission back in. What are your thoughts on that, easier or harder?

I'm glad to see you didn't have to modify the driveshafts. That answers a big question for me on a similar project I am looking at doing. Good job and good content!

When I put my transfer case back in my square body blazer I used two ratchet straps and cranked it right in there worked perfect 👌 easy no strain!!

I have an 86 K20 GMC Suburban with a 350 and T400/NP208 TCase with 4.10s. Just picked up a NV4500 5 speed out of a 95 Chevy K2500 that I am going to swap out. What transmission did you swap out and did you have to shorten the drive shaft? Totally agree about putting them in together but sometimes its not possible. I have done it a few times on my 99k2500 after my 246 went out and swapped to a 241C. It is challenging.

I had the TH400 before as well and the driveshaft fit back in with no modifications. I think there’s about 1/8th inch difference between the old and new setup and the slip yolk allows for that much of a variance.

What transfer case is that. I plan on doing this swap in an 03 Silverado 2500

It’s an NP208, which has the shaft on the passenger side. I don’t remember what side the front diff is on in the 03s, but if it’s drivers side the NP 241 would work too. My NV4500 came with the NP 241. It came out of a 93 or 94.

So the 208 will bolt Right up ? Perfectly.. as I want to get the OD GEAR. EVEN IF I LOOSE THE GRANNY GEAR IN MY SM265 LOL

Unfortunately I haven’t quite finished the swap yet. I don’t have a good reason other than just being busy. I also have to get the brakes working before I can actually drive it, and I’ve had the rear brakes off for about 8 months with no real progress on that project.

Hi, what do you or someone else know about putting an NV4500 into an 86 chevy 4x4 that currently has a stock SM465 tranny? I am learning and so I appreciate any and all advice.

I used permatex liquid gasket instead of a paper gasket. Is there a lot of fluid in this area in between the transfer and tranny? I'm thinking not maybe just a little?

I think a lot people use a liquid gasket at this joint. I just used the paper one because I had already bought it. I don’t think there should be any fluid transfer, especially since the NV4500 uses a different fluid than the NP208.
