We may not have much out here in the country but we have the cardinals and every team and everywhere I’ve been in the world knows the cardinals. I think the fans have a lot to do with it!
@@kbrewski1 Not really. Yadi has come a long way. I remember when he first came up and couldn't hit his body weight. But over the years he proved himself and in 2006 when he had the game winning HR against the Mets... that sealed the deal. He's Legend.
@@mistersir418 last time I went to a game in New York, I went to see my white Sox play (game where Eloy hit his first major league home run) a bunch of Yankees fans were cussing us out for wearing jerseys and threatening us. Made me not want to stay cause we were legit terrified. Yankees fans aren’t as great as you think
Well, on top of G6 2011, he did grow up in StL and go to HS in StL, so yeah, a hometown kid. Plus, he went to the Angels also so we didnt see Freese for a long time either until he was back with Pirates in the NL.
His name is going to be right there with/above Enos Slaughter forever in STL World Series lore (remember, that's 11 titles and several losses). To almost lose the W.S. twice in two innings and have this guy save us from the first one of those and then put the walk of homer to end that craziest game in STL postseason history earns him cheers forever. Tenth anniversary this fall, hope we get a chance to cheer him when they can celebrate it in person.
@@kbrewski1 I go to the same high school as Freese, same with Ryan Howard and Luke Voit, who trained with the same guy I do currently, and Voit’s mom was my preschool teacher, and my aunt is friends with Freese’s mom
This is one of the reasons why Arenado wanted to play here. He said he made a catch in the outfield before and Cardinals fans cheered for him like it was a home playoff game.
Cardinals fan here. I think time heals all wounds. Harper's return was so soon that the hurt caused by his departure was still very fresh. Believe me, when Pujols left, Cardinals fans were PISSED at first. Had Pujols's return been as soon as Harper's return to DC, then Pujols would have been massively booed. But after several years, seeing how his career went on, and realizing the crippling effect that keeping him would have had on our team, we forgave him. Then when he finally returned, everyone was at peace.
@@Elipsis150 I’m really glad pujols went to the AL cause if we played him earlier than we did we would have booed. I feel like cardinals fans would have always regretted that moment if that ever happened.
@@offbrandguy101-7 i highly doubt cardinals fans would have booed pujols no matter how quick he came back to st Louis, there was really not many other players that gave more for a team than pujols did
@@offbrandguy101-7 The only time I've ever heard Cardinals fans booing someone on their own team is when there's a terrible performance going down. And it's gotta be pretty god-awful to get booed by the home crowd in STL. I can't think of a specific example if I'm honest, although that's not to say that we can't be critical of our squad. If we hover around .500 there's fans up in arms about firing coaches and how long the team will be in 'rebuild mode'.
I was there for Albert's first two games back and sitting a few rows behind the dugouts and those were by far the best baseball games I've ever been to. I've also never come closer to crying for a live baseball moment than Matt's home run and jog off the field and Dee Gordon's home run after José Fernandez death.
@@cardsfan-ym1bj i saw Albert play many times as a cardinal but that was a special moment in his return he is the greatest player in my lifetime so far.
This is what makes St. Louis different from any other baseball town. The fans here will applaud a great play, even from the opposition. I was at Randy Johnsons last game in STL, and he received a standing ovation when he was taken out in the 7th, for example...
I remember watching Ken Griffey, Jr. hitting his 500th HR on Father's Day in ST. Louis while with the Reds. It was great to see St. Louis give him a standing ovation when Junior went into the stands to hug his dad.
Absolutely remember that. I was at that game I believe it was on Father’s Day in June. Unbelievable the ovation and appreciation which I didn’t hesitate in, Giving Griffey. Along with 45,000 other of the classiest best fans in baseball
I grew up in STL, and even though the Cards are no longer my favorite team, Busch Stadium is still my favorite place to see a game. The crowds are just excellent there.
@@logangreenfield7660 Correct. I don't really have a favorite team. There's so many ball clubs doing interesting things so STL is just one of the teams I like to watch.
I can't imagine that. There is no team I would ever be a fan of, no matter how far away I moved. Of course, I've lived here all my life and don't plan on leaving! 😂 I definitely appreciate other teams too, but the Cards have my ❤️.
I still have my signed Pujols ball and baseball card from his time here in STL. I used to go to church with the dude and he was always so warm and welcoming. He didn't care if you were just saying hello or wanted an autograph. He was a good dude and we definitely miss him here. He will go down as one of the greats, and will wear a Cardinals uniform in the HOF.
When the home town crowd calls for, and gets, an opposing player to take a curtain call for a home run, you know you are in the home of the Best Fans in Baseball.
Sucks to see holiday go. Went to a game early with my school and he ran over to us after warm ups and tossed a ball up to me because me and my friends were screaming that it was my bday(which it was). Still have that ball today
Wow.. hats off to you St. Louis Cardinals fans... giving respect and love to those who retired, and for those who ever wore the Cardinals uniform. I am an Angels fan, and i got goosebumps and teary eyed when Albert came back to St. Louis. Peace and love to you Cardinals fans.
As a kid our team went 18-0. Coaches took us to a game at Busch about 3 hours north of w Kentucky. They made an announcement and put us on the big screen for a few seconds. Made our year. Fans know going undefeated in baseball is really hard at any level.
He’s a legend anywhere he goes. 660+ hr 2100 rbi 3200+ hits. He’s the last great that will have those counting stats. And a 100 war for the new school stat guys. One of the greatest rh hitters to ever play the game. Best 10 year stretch to start a career. 3 hr in a World Series game( something only 3 men did ). He even started his own club 650 doubles 650 homers. Legend is an understatement
The Freese thing is pretty cool and kept going every first at bat he had in Busch. I went to a Dodger/Cardinal game in 2018 and he received a standing O. 7 years after the 2011 WS
My favorite story to tout about Cards Nation about my friend who's from Houston. Back in '04 he was in school at WashU, and having come from Houston, he was a helluvan Astros fan. Stros and Cards were still same division at this time, so the Stros came to Busch on WashU's night at the ballpark, and my friend got fully decked out in Astros gear ready to be the most obnoxious Stros fan ever, fully expecting the usual hate and vitriol from the hometown crowd in response to any opposing player or fan... However, at that game, one of the Stros players managed to dive over the side wall to catch a foul pop fly, and to my friend's utter astonishment, the Cards fans at Busch gave the Stros player a standing O just because it was such a good play and top notch effort. That was the day my buddy became a Cards fan...
Those were good teams back then. I guess being from St Louis don't get why more teams\ fans don't do it. It sure seems to leave lasting impressions on players. We have been fortunate to grab quite a few on back end of careers for reasonable prices that give Cards solid yrs. Many of those players have choices, no trade clauses. Not saying only factor obviously
That was probably the most talented Cardinals team of my lifetime and that was BEFORE they added Walker, it was so exciting to hear they had made a move to acquire him in an August trade that year. Great times back then.
@@jasonscott7988 Agree, certainly the most talented Cards team since 67-68 Cards. Coasted to best record in baseball, over 100 wins, but had to open WS on road with Boston getting home field advantage as a WC team due to that asinine All Star game rule. Boston on a roll, but Cards came close to winning G1. Might have been different if that Series opens with 2 games in Busch, a shame that 04 team didn't win WS especially after that epic NLCS vs Stros.
Swear to god , when I see this , I get tears in my eyes . Props to Yadi for hamming it up for these opportunities. Obviously love Albert & Yadi but the David Freese at the end gets me too. So proud to be a fan of this great franchise
Matt was 15 after the Cards traded for him in 2009. 5 his typical number with Colorado and Oakland was obviously taken in St Louis. He switched to 7 after the season when he resigned and Mark Derosa left via free agency. So he wore 15 for somewhere around 60-70 games.
Seeing Matt Holliday again in these videos brought tears to me eyes yet again. Thank you for this compilation. I miss these legends all the time. The moments will never be forgotten, neither will my heroes.
Lived in STL for four years was there when he went to Anaheim (my team) and wore a #5 angels jersey to a game there. Didn’t have a single problem. Classiest fans in baseball.
I still remember when Albert returned to St. Louis I was at work the game was on I couldn’t help but just watch in amazement on what an amazing thing something like a standing ovation is
There was a Rangers fan sitting next to us at a WS game in ‘11. He shook everyone’s hand around him at the end of the game and said it was true what they say about Cardinals fans being the best.
I'm a Cards fan, but, Cubs fans really embrace their team as well. Maybe not for fellow fans like Bartman though. I've never seen that much beer thrown at a fan in my life, lol!!
I am 60 years old, from Southeast Texas and ya'll obviously have a good idea which team has been the love of my life and I hope you can understand my pain from events which came to the light during this past year. It has been difficult for someone who treasures integrity and honesty. I have enormous enormous respect for St. Louis Cardinal fans, the Cardinal franchise, and it's proud past, from Stan " The Man" Musial to Mr. Bob Gibson, to those 80s teams with Ozzy and the Boys to Tony Larussa, to Albert Pujols, to Chris Carpenter, to Yadi Molina. Ya'll are a perfect example of why baseball is the greatest sport in the world, and it's fans( except those a**##**! in the Bronx ) are the greatest fans in the world. #respect #class
Thank you so much for the Larry Walker clip. For whatever reason his first at-bat is the one that has always stuck with me as the classic example of Cardinals fans with their standing ovation not only coming to the plate as you saw, but he got another standing ovation AFTER he struck out in his first at bat. I've been waiting for years to see the clip, and am glad that you at least got the first half of the clip for us to see.
Cardinals fans are awesome. They indeed deserve to have stunning legend like Pujols, hometown/postseason hero Freese and long-living veterans like Waino and Yadi. Everytime watching these clips I feel baseball is fantastic not only because these players but also fans. Tip my hat!
I'm a SoCal boy (Angels fan) but I don't understand why Pujols and the Rams (Kurt Warner my favorite all time football player) left St. Louis. You people are some of the nicest and respectful fans a team or player can have.
Warner kind of lost it a few years after SB and had injury issues. Pujols wanted to retire a Cardinal, and our cheap owner DeWallet only offeted him a 5 year contract, forcing him to FA. DeWallet simply didnt want to pay Albert his FMV after 11 of the greatest years in baseball history and 3 NL pennants and 2 World Series Championships. Sad and irritating.
Just commented on the Player’s Tribune of Kolten Wong’s piece. Detroit Tigers fan here and visitor once of St Louis (Final Four 2009). I can say that St Louis has class fans and that organization is top notch so none of these surprise me one bit. Shit who didn’t tear when Albert hit that HR? Or his hug with Yady? Are you kidding?! Lol. Born after the heels of Trammel, Lou and Kirk, I can’t tell you how lucky it has been to have 2 talents in Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander as long as we did. #CheersSTL
Pujols is a legend.Cardinal fans love him so much he can hit homeruns against them an get a curtain call.Cardinal fans are amazing.I respect fans like that.
I have an autographed baseball of Willie Mcgee. My brother got it for me. One of my most prized possessions. My little brother (not so little anymore) knew how much l love him and still do.
Proud to be a Cardinals fan man. It was so much fun seeing Pujols back at Busch recently on the Dodgers and hitting his possibly final home run in Busch Stadium. I hope someone remakes this a little later on because the Cards fans appreciate their players a lot and I love that
Grew up in the St. Louis area in the mid 60’s and early seventies . Sportsman Park to Busch Stadium 1 . 64 , 67 , 68 World Series . Stan the man , Gibby , Maris , Brock . Plus Harry Carey was our announcer . “It’s back , it’s way back , it could be , it might be , it is a home run “! Amazing teams and fans ! Always proud of being a lifelong Redbird fan ! I can recall the entire lineup of the 67-68 teams .
I took my mom to the 5th game of an NLDS against the pirates a few years ago, and the crowd gave a standing ovation to Adam Wainwright just for coming out to stretch before the game. Hardly sat down the whole night as he got the shutout.
