Star Wars Sinks LOWER than Ever Thought Possible 

Star Wars is back and going down in flames under Disney leadership. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy joins to direct the next Rey Skywalker Star Wars movie and as her previous comments have re-emerged it's an eye opening experience as to what we can expect. Not only lacking experience, except for 2 episodes of Ms Marvel that had to be reshot because they were so awful. She has made multiple comments targeting the same demographic that makes up the majority of the Star Wars audience. Now yes many of these comments were made with regards to her previous documentary movies, but does that matter? Has her opinion changed since then, or is she still doubling down? Because without comments saying that you were wrong before, it's fair to believe that you still believe the things you've already preached. And plan to put that into your next Rey Star Wars movie. It'll be much more amusing than the actual films.

I don't understand how it's okay for some people to proudly proclaim that they like to make another group of people uncomfortable. Especially when you consider that if other people said the same thing, it would be highly unacceptable. I know this kind of double standard is a common thing, but it is crazy just how brazen it's gotten. It's literally celebrated!

Crazy how she assumes that someone being uncomfortable is always a problem with the uncomfortable person, and not with the asshole making them uncomfortable in the first place. Standards, woman. Standards.

That conclusion was so spot on. The entertainment industry needs to remember that if we elevate them to larger than life proportions, it is because they succeed in entertaining us, and we value that entertainment. The moment the servant becomes the master it's time to pull it down.

For people like her, yes activism is the motivating factor. Without that grift, how would this woman get any kind of attention and make a living.

Star Wars was a film about a young man coming to terms about his father not being good, and his father eventually realizing the error of his ways. Of course it's patriarchal, it's literally the story. Go make your own story if you know how to make a better one - why ruin this one if it's so terrible to you?

As a person of color I am happy with her. Now I can finally enjoy a Star Wars movie. Because how could I ever like any of the older movies? They were written and directed by people with a different skin color. So I cannot possibly relate to/identify with any of the characters and stories. 😮‍💨

They sued the car wash for using the Star Wars brand and daring to be profitable. It's not what you're supposed to do, you're supposed to lose money.

In Canada, back in 2020 when everybody was scared to death of a certain bug, I remember seeing a video of Canadian police tackling some poor woman to the ground, because she was dressed as a Stormtrooper, and carrying a fake blaster rifle. It was an advertisement for a local take out restaurant gone wrong. That's what this hiring feels like.

The director comes from a very wealthy family, is politically connected, WEF, and so on. Just who you get to tank the brand. Iger says he wants to quiet the noise, he's lying. Star Wars and pretty much anything Disney is just waiting to be buried.

For people who get confused in saying that Star Trek was always woke- there’s a major difference between that and progressiveness. Original series had a black woman on television showed the first white on black kiss on television, they had an Asian face on television during the Vietnam war, and check off the Russian, during technically a cold war. All these diverse characters were working together for a common goal. Episodes dealt with civil rights issues of the day using symbolism and metaphors. Woke people don’t seem to believe in progress. They think they are the first activists ever. All of this stuff started around 2017. So it’s incorrect to say old Star Trek is woke.

The problem is: To make me uncomfortable they need to make me watch it. So if I don’t watch it, I don’t feel uncomfortable. Problem solved

It’s just baffling how Disney refuses to learn their lesson. They keep hiring terrible(evil) people. They have lost money & support for over 5 years in the Star Wars department. I’m not a negative person but if Star Wars stays under Disney, it’s never going to get better. That’s how it feels at this point. The only way to fix the franchise is to get it away from Disney. The upside is that we still have the original movies and old comic book lore(including video games) to enjoy. I think it’s our job is to hold on to the true Star Wars stories and give them to the next generation.

Let's be honest, Kathleen Kennedy is hiring based on what she wants done with the franchise, same as always. She doesn't want a _Star Wars_ film, she wants an activist documentary. And that's what she'll get with Sharmeen Obald-Chinoy. This is what she makes, unless you reshoot it under someone else's direction. Obald-Chiboy said it herself, she doesn't know how to do a feature film, she does activist docs. Presumably, she's been hired for her skills at directing activist docs because that's what Kennedy wants for the new Rey movies. Now, am I interested in such? No. I'll take a hard pass on that. I didn't waste my time on the second and third Rey movies because I wanted to, I did it out of a last sliver of hope for improvement that never came. Now that hope is completely extinguished, and Disney Star Wars is not _Star Wars_ at all to me. It is joined in the scrap pile by other such franchises, like the MCU and the DCEU and _Doctor Who_ .

I agree with you more then Critical Drinker who I rank 2nd of reviewers.Critical was wrong on her being possibly nuanced but when she openly stated she is an activist and WANTS to put her activism in her movies it is a major red flag. Good Job Disparu with the real review!

Interviewers need to ask tougher questions like “will your sequels make more than the last 3?” Would be a great one.

It'd be one thing if her interview specified men in Middle Eastern countries that abuse and kill women on the regular, yet she seems to hold it for ALL men. And the comments on Star Wars makes it come off as she hasn't let any of that hate go but only fester and take it out on ALL men in the world rather than the ones initially responsible for her hate.

I can believe that she scares men, but not for the reasons she thinks and not in the way she thinks.

But I notice unless part of her speech was cut out, she didn’t specify those men to help put her comments into a specific context. She did say she puts her activism into everything she makes. So making a great Star Wars movie is not her priority.

I feel like you just replied to Critical Drinkers video, because he tried arguing that her comment about her making men uncomfortable was related to her activism in Pakistan. And you rebutted it perfectly by showing and stating, that if she said this in the past and has since changed her viewpoint to a more western audience then there is no issue.
