Thanks Man. I’m trying to remove the starter in my 71 and that 8 mil inside nut is hard to get to, especially with the heat shield making it hard to get a socket on it. I may pull it like you showed.

C3 Corvettes have the battery mounted in a recessed compartment behind the passenger seat. The positive battery cable runs to the starter. GM ran the negative (ground) cable to the frame and used a separate cable up front from the frame to the engine block. It's a good idea to replace that factory ground cable with a longer one that leads directly to the block. Leave the one from the frame to the block intact. The reason for this is that a copper battery cable is a much better conductor than the steel frame. And unless you're restoring your older Corvette (or any GM) and need everything to look factory original consider replacing those old starters with a new gear reduction starter from Powermaster or Tilton. You'll avoid the GM "hot start" problem where the engine won't start until the starter has a chance to cool. Embarrassing at the gas station when other people are waiting to use the pump.

I just wanted to ad my 2 cents to some starting issues. I have a 1979 Vette that did a valve stem replacement. When I replaced the valve cover gasket , the side above the started was a little heywire, so there was some oil leakage(replaced the gasket). Car started and ran fine on that day. The next day I went out to start it, and nothing. Got gauge lights, radio, etc, but nothing too the starter. Went underneath to the starter with some carb cleaner and cleaned and sanded all the connections. There was one wire in particular that you need to look for. It comes out of the harness that the power and alternator wires are. A small black wire( I assume a ground) but it's bolted right around the lower right side of the bellhousing. Had some oil and rust. After the cleanup all around the starter, fired up like a champ! No new starter necessary.

I have a 78 anniversary edition, this was great, but i'm still chasing starting issue. I bypassed the clutch safety switch with a little jumper but still turn key...everything lights...engage the spring switch and nothing... seriously thinking rather than get to complicated..replace clutch safety with toggle...and run that 12v to a pushbutton and splice into lavender wire at harness...

I'm having a no-start issue after changing a window switch. Think I hit the neutral safety switch. Rebuilt the starter. Still no start or crank at all

Just got me 75 stingray, my starter isn’t working been watching this video prsying I can fix it. Who ever did the wires before hand really messed everything up like bad the wires are rando colors and patched together weirdly UHHOHH

My C3 keeps on draining the battery while running, checked the alternator and alternator belts. Will check the starter this weekend. Next thing i think if this doesn’t work its to check the positive cable.

Hi there will a faulty starter cause no power to the vehicles electrical system like its a dead battery which it isn't ..i tried everything with the c3 corvette

I always gotta crack my vette with starter fluid for it to crank it won’t crack on its own weather it’s hot or cold doesn’t matter is there a reason for that thanks ?

On my 69 350 Corvette sometimes I turn the key and nothing happens. This first happened when it was in a repair shop for another issue. The mechanic jumped across the two solenoid terminals with a screwdriver and it started. He said there was a dead spot in the starter armature. Another mechanic said it was a bad solenoid. do you have an opinion? When it doesn't do this the starter performs well.
