Thanks to....well I guess me for buying this to share. If you like the 39mm, this is easily the one to get in my opinion. www.steinhartwatches.de/en/oc...
I own a Rolex GMT Master II 16710 and I'm considering getting one of these. Why? When I got my Rolex back around 2003, we bought it used for about $3000. I used it as a daily wear for close to 15 years. Sun or rain, swimming or tux, salt water or fresh. I only used a beater (Marathon Navigator) for some sports, carrying things, etc. Today, that same watch is worth something like $8-9K. And now I'm getting annoyed rather than pleased because I'm worried about it now. I realize $3K is a lot of money for many people (me too) but remember it's about $1000 more than the laptop we all buy and then chuck out the window five years later. Anyway, This watch is does what Rolex used to do in the 1960s and 1970s. At $700 it's a lot more than a Casio at $150 but you get a watch that could last decades if you wanted it to and - while not cheap - can be worn the way I used to wear the Rolex. I don't consider this a knock-off. It has a great movement (but cheaper to repair than the Rolex), quality build, nice design, ceramic, sapphire, screw-down, AR, 316 steel … I mean, that's a Tudor. What else do you want? Personally, in this market, I would have said make a 41mm like Tudor and Omega and call it a day but what do I know. Still, this is good work.
@Bryan Davis It's a strange and slightly annoying problem, actually. It was a gift when I finished my Ph.D. so it's something I would never sell (and couldn't afford to buy anymore either). My solution is to just wear it and enjoy it and forget about the rest. As for the ocean, I went completely the other direction. A Suunto sport watch with a heart monitor. I wanted to see what tech was like. Turns out I like it for sports but don't enjoy it as a watch. So it's a neat tool to help me exercise.
Steinhart really makes not just beautiful watches but the quality is awesome. I don't know how they do it, but for the price they are the best bang for the buck. I own three of their watches.
It is evident this model was inspired on a Rolex GMT Master ii but I feel Steinhart did an awesome job giving the watch a character of its own. Based on that fact I just ordered one today and I have the feeling it may end up being the watch with most wrist time from the few I own. Thanks for the video!
Would be nice to see this as a stepping stone for Steinhart to move away from the homage scene. They make very solid watches, time for more of their own designs imho.
this particular model besides bezel color, which is pretty common, is quite different from Rolex. In this case they got almost 1 to 1 copies available.
Just watched your unboxing video of this guy, then I started wondering if there will be a review on yt already and bam there you are! Awesome job with the upload!
Good to see Steinhart listens to their customers, this is what I was waiting for 39mm gmt 500 premium and in stainess steel. Too bad the watch funds are depleted right now but this isn't a LE so should be available later in the year hopefully
4/29/23 I was just made aware of a 39mm titanium being released, and ordered one immediately. Been waiting a long time for that exact model. I had the 42mm titanium diver, and it was awesome, but I really wanted the GMT in titanium and 39. Very happy they finally made it. The unidirectional bezel is really unfortunate, though.
I have the 42mm Titanium Version. It does have a display caseback. The Titanium has a blasted finish. I like it t but I also like this watch with the polished/brushed combo.
Mine just came today also. Very nice product, IMO. Highly recommended. I also bought a Jubilee bracelet, which will allow a nice alternative when wanted.
that looks very sharp and glad that they went with Stainless steel version. A year ago, I bought a titanium GMT and I had to get rid of it as soon as possible because that Titanium bracelet and clasp were scratch magnet and in less than few weeks, it looked really bad. so, I am very glad that they went with stainless steel. Again, Very sharp looking watch. thanks a lot for your great review once more.
I like it. I have the original Titanium 500. I would love a version w/ 39 mm stainess steel case, gmt movement, 24 hrs on inner chapter ring, and the standard black ceramic dive bezel. It would sell like hotcakes imo.
Great vid and thanks for showing this brand. I was looking for a GMT and was going to go with a major name brands baby brother, but now this is a more economical choice. I like a larger diameter watch due to my wrist size, so I think I will be going with either the GMT-OCEAN 1 BLACK RED or I will wait for the OCEAN Forty Four GMT Black-Red to come back into stock.
I love this piece - best Steinhart ever - got 2 and sold them years ago... now it discontinued be I was lucky and just got a NOS from a reseller here in Switzerland :)
The design is obviously derivative but I love the combo of 39mm and the black/blue design. Hope other companies are taking notes, smaller watches are back.
I had 42 titanium and it was a good watch . I don’t know if 39mm would feel too small for me . I see why they don’t go 40 due to homage thing . . 40 on Rolex sports style is great. Although only 1mm it is quite noticeable on smaller watches..
I have the full-sized titanium version of this and love it! I found a curved end blue silicone strap that matches the lower bezel perfectly. Steinhart scratched my GMTMaster II itch!!
Thanks Rob for this review!! I am thinking of saving for this watch, and I would love the new vintage Pepsi 39mm to wow it is fantastic!!!! Oh yeah the blue shows up fine on the bezel!
Monster lume rules. :-) I've been looking at those and wanted to see a couple reviews before ordering. This really helps with my decision. Thank you. The only question I have for myself is Black Black or Black Blue bezel. Ugh. Decisions.
A uni-directional bezel is so rare on a GMT. I'm very glad they did it because it can safely be used as a backup timer for dives. I don't see what you are losing by only being able to turn the bezel one way. You can still set it to whatever time you'd like.
How can it be used as a dive timer with no minute markers? It's done to keep the cost down and is a cop out. Companies that make proper GMT watches put bi directional bezels on them because its quicker to set the time with them.
@@davids.2317 No stretch of the imagination. 2 = 5; 4 = 10... etc. Set the pip when you start the dive. No less accurate than most dive bezels that only show minute marks for the first 15-20 minutes. I wouldn't be using an analogue watch as my primary dive timer anyways. Just a rough estimate. Most sport dive profiles are 25-30 minutes at 60-70 feet. I use the bezel on my Omega PO GMT black and white the same way but it is bi-directional so could theoretically get bumped in the wrong direction. Never had that issue and again it isn't my primary timing device. The one nice thing about that model of PO GMT is the minute hash marks for all 60 minutes.
to make an excuse for the unidirectional bezel: at 500m WR this is a serious diver and so you get a usable diver-bezel in exchange for a slightly less comfortable to adjust (but still usable) 3rd timezone - makes sense to me tbh. In reality you might use both functions equaly often for what they where intended - probably never 😁. Also they have this watch in titanium, for the same price even - would still go with the steel, tho. Great video btw!
@@michaels3003 Not Sure by whom it is certified but my 39 ocean one did fine while I was swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. I was even able to dive around 2 meters down. Considering most people will never seriously dive with such a watch it is save to stay that it will withstand any casual swim in the pool for example. And those meters marks are not meant to define how deep you can actually dive. A 3 ATM watch will in 99/100 cases leak water when you throw it into a 3 meter deep pool. Only watches above 10 ATM like 20 ATM/200m should be used to swim.
I got not a big wrist, but anything below 39 looks small for some reason. Most of my watches are 40-42 so I'm looking at the titanium 42mm model. still not sure if I really need another watch)))
I've been wearing 42mm GMTs, but they're just too big. I've got one of these coming in secondhand this week and I'm hyped. It looks gorgeous and should be much better than my Parnis 😄
Can you do a lume comparison say 5 hours after charging. My experience is that BWG9 is much less bright than C3 or the stuff Seiko uses - but lasts longer. I have a feeling the total amount of energy released is about the same, but BWG9 releases is more slowly.
As much as I love the design...: I had this one and the 42mm Ti version on my wrist and the 39mm looked a bit "off" in the flesh. It took me a while to understand why, but I'm pretty certain that it was the hands. They look great on the larger model but on the 39mm they seem a bit "stubby", for lack of a better word. I had looked at the watch in countless pics and videos before trying it on and it only looked weird to me when I saw it in real life. I would still wear it, mind you ... just saying that perhaps these broad hands aren't the best choice for a 39mm.
I really dig it, probably more than I should. I have a question I'd appreciate any help with! I have a 6.75" wrist and wear a 44mm/50mm lug to lug Luminox 3150 on the metal bracelet, and Im happy with how it fits/looks. I also have a Cyma Navystar Chrono that is 39mm/47mm lug to lug. It wears fine too, but I wouldnt want any smaller. I am having trouble deciding on which Steinhart size to go with. Apparently they wear a little bit large due to the lug design? If Im fine with a 44mm Luminox then I should be fine with a 42mm Steinhart O1? But I really like this Primo batman GMT, esp if they wear large. Only open to Stainless, not interested in Ti. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.
In general I love Steinhart watches and the fact that this company is listening to the customers. As a result they release more and more 39mm watches. I don‘t know why, but the bezel on ALL of this smaller versions seems to be overpolished!?
I have a Steinhart 44mm Ocean GMT in black. There are two disappointments I have with the watch. First, I feel like the chapter ring on it is HUGE!! It almost seems like they just used the same dial that they have on the smaller models, and increased the size of the chapter ring to fill the bigger case- not a good look, IMHO. Secondly, the clasp is a friction lock with a simple fold-over. I realize that these watches are GREAT bargains for the level of quality they represent, but come on- give us a two button clasp deployant, and charge an extra five bucks?! Anyway, sorry for the rant. Enjoy your new watch Rob!! Know anybody who might like to purchase mine?
Nice watch and def better in ss than titanium. If they could use an engraved bezel on their other versions I’d be in. Sold my ocean 39 because you can’t read the bezel markers.
Also what is your opinion in general about bronze watches? I been thinking about pulling a trigger on Glycine bronze combat sub with blue face and blue dial. They currently run about $400.
@@rogerl7533 , you must be an intellectual juvenile. It was a "typo" error while tapping on an on-screen keyboard (with one finger). Nothing to do will illiteracy... I cannot imagine that you have a perfect typing record.
@@michaels3003 agreed and I know what you mean. I am not big fan of big names or small from swiss made. I am more into the micro brands now. That's why I am at random rob channel. I do have some big brands watches though and there are endless lists of names more than omega and rolex.
Great video and very fast delivery! Are the numbers engraved on the ceramic bezel? And I think its just an elabore with "premium" finish and decoration.
As always, thanks for the detailed review. Really appreciate your channel. Please continue creating new content. Unfortunately for me, I went to Steinhart website to buy this watch but the price is now 690 Euros!! You mentioned you only paid 580 Euros... did you get yours on sale or at a discount? Coz if they raised the price by over 100 Euros, I think that's a deal breaker for me.
Only nitpicking, but damn it would be perfect if it had that slight blue tint to the outer edge of the face shelf like the Ti one does. Also I would prefer the markers to be outlined in at least Stainless. I like a metal border. But otherwise I love it.
how do you think steinhart compares to the baby marine master you recently reviewed. it appears they are about the same money. which is the better watch?
I have this one incoming ... Glad i found one nearly mint, made in March 22' Sadly they don't make it anymore. This and the 3 hander (42mm only sadly) are Steinharts best design.
13.5mm thick?... was wondering if Steinhart could make this version thinner at 11.5 mm for 200 m WR or 12.5 mm for 300 m WR. We know that Glycine CS made it below 11mm thick but it uses flat sapphire and not a GMT, though.
Nice vid as always Rob. How do you compare the click of the bezel on this one to the OVM 39 they released on Gnomon some months ago ? Is it better now ?
This is a really cool release Rob...I love lumed bezels. Thank you for sharing this one. Everyone says Steinharts wear flat. What do you think of this 39mm?
The 39mm versions work well with the lug design, plus they nailed the bracelet. This is a great watch for so many people for sure. Also this one is for sale. 😁
It looks good. With that case shape & handset no one will ask, 'is that a BLNR?' which is good. But the unidirectional bezel is *wrong* for a GMT watch and strongly implies where the bezel supplier is located (starts with C, ends with hina).
OVM 39 dial looks a lot more cluttered than this one. Also stainless steel is nicer looking than the darker titanium. Overall this is a pretty good watch.
